- If he wanted to have a shot at the 1994 DTM-title, Alessandro Nannini of Alfa Romeo had to finish as high up as possible and certainly in front of championship leader Klaus Ludwig of Mercedes. Nannini started last and was charging through the field. He was in front of Ludwig and up to fourth place when he was hit from behind by another Mercedes driver: Roland Asch. Nannini spun and he stalled the Alfa Romeo 155. Asch robbed him of the title, but Nannini wasn't in the mood to let the German get away with it. He rushed to the Alfa Corse pits, put on fresh tires and went back on the track. Looking for Asch. And revenge.
For those that still think the Mercedes's bump was unintentional i'll just say this: if it wasn't for the Alfa slowing it down it would've missed the turn completely and run straight into the Opel, it's the same as 5 a year old playing Gran Turismo and using other cars to brake and corner.
It was fully intentional and planned by Mercedes to win the championship, they've been doing it time and time again in different racing leagues.
Roland Asch si é dimostrato un pupazzo, due volte. Quando ha buttato fuori Nannini e quando si é fatto riprendere. Una vergogna per la MB.
4 volte, quando nella gara finale del STW del '99 ha buttato fuori Christian Abt rivale per il titolo del suo compagno di squadra Uwe Alzen. Pupazzo 4° volta perché l'ha fatto all'ultima curva dell'ultimo giro dopo che gli avevano già sventolato bandiera nera

5 years the Same Roland Ash was involved in similar incident in STW 1999 , he ram Christina Abt the title rival of his Opel team mate Uwe Alzen in the last race
Indeed! Abt was absolutely furious after the race, you can find the interview here on TH-cam. He should have gone to Abt like Schumacher did with Coulthard at Spa '98. Mercedes did this dirty teamwork trick over and over again

Da vero alfista ti dico: ti rispetto perchè come me sei un vero appassionato di automobili e di motorismo sportivo. Benché l'Alfa come storia prestigio e sostanza (pre anni 2000) sia stata di gran lunga superiore alla BMW, quest'ultima ha il pregio di essere forse l'ultimo marchio a vocazione sportiva ma indirizzato ad una clientela medio alta a produrre ottimi motori prestazionali con una vera trazione posteriore. Molti di coloro che compravano Alfa ieri, oggi comprano bmw: hanno preferito una meccanica e prestazioni simili alle vere Alfa e snobbato le Alfiat. La prova è che se ci fossero di nuovo delle vere Alfa tornerebbero a comprare queste dimenticandosi di BMW. Stimo di piú un appassionato d'auto (basta che sia un marchio decente) piuttosto che uno snob che deve esibire il suo potere d'acquisto. Forza Alfa Romeo! Presto risorgerai, e non ce ne sarà per nessuno!
preciso che la vera identità dell'Alfa romeo dovrebbe essere nella fascia di mercato medio-alta e alta ( dove c'è bmw audi Mercedes Porsche Jaguar Maserati, poco sotto il livello Ferrari). Basta guardare l'Alfa delle origini per capire (primo dopoguerra). Fu con la 1900 che si aprì alla fascia della classe medio-alta (che oggi sta sparendo facendo aumentare ricchi e poveri) facendola allo stesso tempo scendere un pó dal segmento delle supercar e del lusso su commissione per la clientela d'élite. La 8c e la 4c pur con i loro difetti fanno ben sperare per un ritorno alle origini.

That was dumb on a biblical level. If you're going to take someone out you should at least try a make it look accidental. Asch just torpedoed Nannini, nothing accidental about it, just simply drove into the back of the Alfa and pushed it around. I can't blame Nannini for that, I don't agree with it, getting payback on the track is always dangerous but I can understand it, getting deliberately served by a member of the opposition team who isn't in the title fight is just plain dirty. At least Nannini ended his championship run with a bang, and a very impressive fire. Reminds me of the turbo Alfa engines in F1. I'm sure Asch's team was on the radio telling him that Nannini was out on new tyres so I wonder if he had a brown trouser moment when he saw the Alfa approaching in his rear view mirrors. Nannini was a very tough competitor and certainly wasn't afraid of giving back what he was given...
There's nothing dumb about it. It's just another period, where pilots had another kind of philosophy. You can't judge this event now where nowadays everything is so strict that become so boring to watch. Because Sport is violence, is show, and if you completely eliminate every inch of it, it's just "nothing".
@@tarekben5524 Yes, it is dumb, because taking someone out deliberately is not sport. It's because of actions like this that the regulations are now so tight that it is almost impossible for drivers to actually race...
@@gosportjamie Asch did the same with him, just to let the other MB driver win. I guess Nannini was pretty angry and took his revenge. It was quite dumb, I kinda agree, but he lost the championship because of what Asch did, so...
in a recent interview Nannini sad that this was Asch 2nd time bumping him. 2 consecutive races same guy bumps you out....that explains a little more what happened that day.

I can't get enough of '93-1996 DTM and ITC. Thanks to all the people who have uploaded those races and any footage in general. Now I have to dig in to the old BTCC races I've never seen.

@EHVMichael yeah, it's really probable that Asch made a mistake as glaring as that...if not for Nannini's car he would have completely missed the turn because of late braking, not even a rookie would miss the braking point by that much.

Alfa perdió el título de 1994 por falta de fiabilidad y por el gran error de Nannini en la primera carrera de Singen. Mercedes demostró lo que es, una formación militar que no duda en sacar de pista a sus rivales (además sin necesidad) y que entre sí no luchan, aunque sean de equipos diferentes. Que pena.
