    That mouthpiece lives up to it's name for sure. Great video.

      Sure does! One of the biggest in my collection and certainly the widest rim width. Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for being here TL!

    I recently purchased used from eBay a Giddings & Webster 3 144 (3 diameter with a 27 throat).. My initial impressions are good. It is similar in size to a Bach 3C - maybe leaning toward the slightly deeper cup Bach 3B. I don’t know yet if I like it’s response, tone, feel etc better than my conventional mouthpieces. But it seems to be at least on par with them at this point. Interesting mouthpiece.

    I have the Sanders 17DB and have owned a Hickman Big Boy. I regret selling it! Wondering if anyone might be interested in trading a Hickman TBR for a big boy? Also wouldn't mind buying a reasonably priced used example. You sound great Jon, Bravo!

      Thanks for the compliment! Very cool that you have a Sanders 17DB, they are very hard to come by these days... definitely hold onto that one!

    I might like this one. I want a bigger more comfortable rim. So what’s the best cup size for older lips? The Big Boy, or the medium deep cup?Thank you

    • @JonTalksTrumpet
      @JonTalksTrumpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would try the medium deep or even the medium!

      @@JonTalksTrumpet Would a Bach 10 3/4 ce be close to this Big Boy?

    • @otmq
      @otmq ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paulgrimm6850 not even remotely. The Hickman mouthpiece is close to a Bach 1.25…

    I have tried a few Neil Sanders trumpet mouthpieces over the years and the rims on them were not only just flat as you would suggest on your video, rather they were also very concave - following the shape of most people's teeth, sort of on a similar idea to those Maynard Fergusson mouthpieces with a concave zero bite, except the Sanders mouthpieces are large diameters and the rim is flat, if that makes sense. The Hickman rim on Giddings mouthpieces are not the same as this, rather they are a bit more rounded and not concave.

      Interesting! I was going to a large degree on Professor Hickman's description. I have some Sanders pieces on the way so I will be able to see it for myself soon. Thanks for watching and commenting, Nick!

      @@JonTalksTrumpet I am currently playing a mouthpiece made by Ivan Giddings utilising the Hickman rim profile and it's nothing at all like those Neil Sanders mouthpiece rims.

    I've got a contrabass trombone mouthpiece with a similar rim width, and thats on a 1.142" cup! That is certainly very wide for trumpet.

    I find the Bach Artisan 1C to be very comply for a lot less money. I like the Bach 5V but the rim is too narrow
