  • The two biggest stacks at the final table of the WSOP ME go head-to-head in what looks to be the most fascinating hand yet. While everyone else concerns themselves with laddering up, Garry Gates and Hossein Ensan are playing to win. Garry makes a particularly inspired river bluff, but how will it work out for him?

    This is not a good bluff in my opinion. Gates had a decent bluff catcher, and he was getting a good price, so in my opinion calling is 100% the only play to be made here especially given the whole ICM situation.

    • @MBMASTR
      @MBMASTR 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He had bluffcatcher but even decent bluff. To be fair from that lead only what makes sense is maded 2 pairs on river which he block, then it is way more combos of 1 pairs blockbets or slowplayed flush ace high only.

    • @fundiver198
      @fundiver198 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MBMASTR Ensan was the chip leader and had been playing like a maniac. In Dougs next video he bluff-raised a bad pair no kicker on the turn after getting check-raised on the flop. So its very reasonable to assume, that this donk bet could also be a bluff and snap it off with second pair.
      But its not very reasonable to assume, that a maniac with a huge stack is going to blocker bet top pair and then fold it to a small raise. Blocker bet, sure, but fold, never. As in never at all. So the raise basically only fold out bluffs, which Gates was beating already.

  • @rc5989

    Great analysis AND hilarious ending. I was sure the bluff would work, but then again it is the Main Event. So, the ‘pros’ are folding QQ like the nut low, and mega stack is snap calling with any ol’e top pair. This is why live poker will never die...

    • @fundiver198
      @fundiver198 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This was a pretty weird river. It should just have gone check-check with those hands. Hard to tell, what was going through both players minds. But they had been playing for a long time, so one can only imagine, that some history and dynamics were in play here.

If ever. So you can check and give up or check and hope to hit, but check and got to Showdown unimproved will obv never win. Any pair beats you, any Ace high, any straight draw turned into a straight or a pair, and a flushdraw, guess what, became a flush...

    Agreed with everything in video except raise on river is way too small. Should be at least $35M, $25M is way too small.

      I prefer directly fold better than raise bluff. cause Eason do have straight and small flush range that cant fold any size under 45m. Second Chipleader (far more than third)no need take that risk.

    You make some good analyses generally but this isn't one of them. The vast majority of the time, like the overwhelming majority, probably 19 out of 20 times, the bb here is polarized to the nuts or a stone cold bluff. Raising accomplishes nothing except that is opens you up to losing more chips when bb is at top of his range. Raising on the river here is only good if you actually put bb on precisely the hand that he has, a naked K, otherwise you raise into a bluff which you would beat by simply calling, or into a flush or straight, in which you lose your chips. Unless he had a read of extraordinary proportions and knew that bb had a K specifically, this raise is bad.

    I disagree with almost everything he said hah. I don't like Gary's turn bet, Ensan's river bet or Gary's river raise. It all stems from Gary's less than 25% of the pot c-bet on the flop. I believe that all, but eliminates clubs from his range as a flush draw would bet at least half pot in hopes of just taking it down. So when he bets the club on the turn if I was Ensan I'd be very suspicious since that now becomes a bad card for Gary's range. Knowing that Gary is telling a story that makes no sense I'd check the river and allow him to pay me off. Gary's raise works here, but again the story was just not believable and he should have lost a lot of chips.

    5 minutes in I'm so lost with your analysis and strategy because you talk in one long breath with no particular emphasis. Stop breath make a point, stop breathe make a counter point. It was just one run on sentence to me. So I stopped it and replayed it to try and figure out what your saying. You start off, after the winner break down , just spewing numbers about the big and small blinds and then right into the value of the ace 10 off suit with out a single pause. I had no idea this was two thoughts until I replayed it twice more. You know what your saying, we don't! then you talk ahead of the action, as you replay the action, so what your talking about doesn't match the action. Then your strategic analysts doesn't agree with the winning play of Ensan nor do you comment on it!
    Personally I think Ensan realized if this guy had the flush he would have bet all in. But the big bet just looked too much like a safe bluff if he got called and that's what happened.

    Please can someone explain why the K9 wouldn't lead with a value bet at the flop and turn ?
    I get that the BTN is likely to cbet here, but you give him a chance to improve his hand if he has a draw.
    And, if you do check the flop with K9, why not c/raise for the same reason ?

    Crazy to think the man bet against a possible triple, two pair, straight, straight flush...hell, even pocket aces could beat his hand...these pro players are in another level, I'd run at the first bet with only a pair of kings.

    gates seems to mainly be attacking the small sizing which he reads to be thin value. Ensan s relative snap call is indicative of him trying to induce such a spewy raise. He was one step ahead of Gates and estimated that such a brick river like doug mentioned is unlikely to improve gates’ hands that bluffed turn (just as much as its unlikely to have improved his) and thus the small lead to induce bluff raises. if gates did have ensan beat with AA or AK kq is he s never going to raise river when lead into on such a board so its a great blocker/ inducive type bet.

    I feel like the call call bet line is ether a very strong hand or a pure bluff. i would never raise that. In my opinion its call or fold. Ensan would never do that with a hand that calls and loses to the reraise on the river. What is he trying to achieve? Get him of the king? aint going to happen with this stack... Bluffing a weaker hand you would beat anyways?

    i think that raise from gates on the river was useless:. if it was meant to be a bluff then it was a bad size , ensan of course he had to pay the rest of the chips because the raise wasnt so high at all , on the other hand , if gates raised for value with his 10 then hey , only a better hand would call or raise you especially with that raise and in fron of the chip leader and apparently a calling station.
    gates story was good, he had to raise allin on the river or simply call for his 10 value showdown. am i right or i play bad poker ?

At the end of the day he reads his opponents and their betting pattern and calls bullshit when he sees it. He's win almost 15 million in tournament winnings if not more from my understanding so it's definitely working for him.

    • @jackplaysdarts
      @jackplaysdarts 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certainly. In fact, it's more likely he has air here if he's bluffing because he has good showdown value by hitting the 10 on the end. Probably why Ensan called... if the bluff was bigger Ensan may have taken some more time but still may have called.
