My local Armada players fear that with this new game they won't get anything new

Do you mind telling us what that means a little bit? Some people say it’s reskinned MCP. Is that what they mean?
@@CornerCase no they play Star Wars Armada and haven't really received an update since the game moved from FFG to Atomic games. So now that they are releasing a new Star Wars game is Armada dead or just left behind.

It looks to be something akin to a re-skinned MCP; both in miniatures and over all play experience.
That’s what some people are saying. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing, but I’ll be trying MCP just to know 😂
If this isn't pre-painted then it is a little dependant on vets playing so the game is visible to people who might jump into the hobby. Vets, I'm imagining, will eschew the game due to the new scale so there's no one to introduce these new players. I can't say that the change of scale will kill the game - even if it fails we won't know for sure that it was the cause - but it feels like it might, and at least is going to chill sales.

Interesting video to be sure. I know that AMG has said in the FB group for Shatterpoint that it is for sure a larger scale than Legion and that the rule set is not the same as in MCP. I 100% agree with your take on GW "blocking the exits" using the various systems they have out, but wouldn't correlate that to what AMG is doing. I would look to the lack of compatibility between systems for that. They're less likely to catch existing players and keep them playing whatever they consider to be their "headliner" game, and instead, I think they're looking to cast a wide net and try to catch more people, each playing a single game that they produce, rather than a few people that play multiple.

The models look to be Clone Wars animated series designs, and those are legendary, so that’s the main thing pique’ing my interest rn 🙂

The nostalgia is REAL
The "splitting of metas" is my greatest concern ... the "downfall" of WH fantasy and later WM all brought with thm a splitting of metas (or rather migration to different games) and brought with it a reduction in playing partners and subsequently tournament size... sure, the big C did a thing, but WHF used to have multiple 100+ player events in germany a year, WM barely broke the 50s mark and filling 32 players in GB was and in Malifaux is a minor miracle. Time will tell what Shatterpoint will do in this regard, at some point we will see a major meta deathwave I fear ... GB was just the first of many I fear and new, small games will have it harder the more new games (abd model lines) we see...

LOLOL. Dang this was a whole emotional journey for me. I have only seen 100+ people tournaments at conventions for 40K. X-Wing in my meta was like 20-30 people depending on what tournament, but there were so many tournaments, it might be better to count the number of competitive events in a month.
The market is saturated like you said, and I do think the existing popular fictional IP is a critical component to upsetting the market.
As someone who also found the hobby through X-Wing I totally agree with the sentiments of this video. But as someone who literally just bought into Legion last week, this announcement has me anxious and feeling a little buyer’s remorse, as all the local players are jumping on the hype and I’m worried that this “older” game that I just found won’t have the community support as everyone goes to focusing on Shatter-point. I just saved up to get in, please, don’t leave!
Also big agree with “how many times do I have to buy the imperials?”
X-Wing 2.5 just isn’t the game I fell in love with, but now I’m worried that dipping into Legion was a waste of money. Especially if AMG leaves Legion to drown (ya know like the meme) and only focuses/updates SP.

O man, yeah, no, Legion is a good game, man. I wouldn’t worry about it dying. I think wargamers often worry their game is going to die.
I actually plan on investing more in legion in the coming months, so at least you’ll have me.
I heard X-Wing 2.5 has objectives play, which is cool for competitive, but also, like, that’s super not the x-wing I fell in love with 😂.
Personally, I prefer Skirmish based games over War Games, because I can spend money on other games/systems, as well as investing in multiple teams. I currently have every single Warcry and Kill Team team, as well as a solid percentage of the Restrictionists from Malifaux, a couple Necromunda Gangs, and a few war bands for Mordheim. Have Shatterpoint pre-ordered, if anything just to have the rules and system and give it a go before I drop any more money into it.

I am more interested in SW: Shatterpoint more than in SW: Legion. Mostly due to desire to paint some SW minis without necessity to paint whole army. I've painted General Grevious from SW:Legion not long ago. It was ok mini, but seeing one from Shatterpoint I want to paint him in bigger scale!
I won't be buying into game portion, I think, so many games so little time. And there is also game dev side project...

I think I can maybe make like an iconic battle scene from the animated series as a small board and just those forces, and my board gamey friends can play with me
If the models were painted like x wing, I think it could be compared to x wing more.
I've been waiting for a Star Wars skirmish game, I've never collected star wars minis so this has got me interested. Definitely sucks for people with a big SW: Legion collection if they aren't compatible

@@CornerCase no it isn’t! Of course we only have one side of the story, but the statement from the writer seemed to indicate the termination was a surprise to him. Which stinks :(
I think Shatterpoint is a pretty dumb name… I find it hard to believe this was focus grouped properly. Still, I like it, and I’m optimistic about it so far. I do hope that units are cross compatible with Legion, similar to The Other Side and Malifaux.

I can’t help but think there’s something cheeky in the name, though. Like “this game is the spearhead that will shatter the glass ceiling of popularity for non-GW games” you know
In my opinion it is sad news for the fans of legion. The whole transition of the Star Wars franchise to AMG was in my eyes a disaster. I did play xwing 1.0 and 2.0 and the last changes by AMG made me simply loose interest in the game. It is basically dead in my region and was played quite a lot before. Armada is a great game but it was told by AMG "no more releases for you in the near future. We have no resources for this". Legion had a hard dump in the amount of releases and most of the stuff that was released was still from FFG. And currently there is nothing big on the horizon. And the last releases for legion where quite bad in terms of quality. It took a really long time for the star wars games to even appear on the AMG website.
Now it appears that they invested the time in a new game that seems similar to MCP. It seems probable that this game will see a lot of investment and the others will dwindle down.

Dang, I mean I was following this story real time, but I hadn’t really put it all together. That’s a real bummer.
This kindof reminds of how Game Freak is shackled to making Pokémon games, but then they keep trying to make their own games 😂. Like Legion and X-Wing were already successful, and that equity can be leveraged

I am slightly pessimistic.
Its cool that SW gets skirmish. But I am not fan of Atomic Mass games. Not saying they are bad, just have a lot of elements that i dislike.
I'd much prefer someone else to do it.
But not thinking about rulsets I am not very encouraged? Scale for models looks strange and for me, already in hobby, strange scales are disadvantage. i cannot fit them to any terrain, it is hard to convert. (just like Doctor who from Warord. whats the point of gaems about time traveller if it is no in 28 or something smaller and have to make everything from scratch). the only reason is for people to not use minis from Legion and IA. its sad.
Minis look just avarge? i woud say this is Boardgames standard maybye a bit better. But still lower than I expect from wargame. I accept lower quality for indie games or retro games like Osprey things. But here it really should look better. And painting is just ok. And i do not want ok. I want to be amazed and to be promised that my models will look the same even though they never will. This is visual hobby first.
I hope that it will be cool game and people will enjoy it. but at this point the only reason form me to get it is Brand. and i am past the point where i would buy games because they are star wars.

Not interested in Shatterpoint at all. Got into X-wing and Armada when they initially came out; converted all my first edition X-wing to 2.0, did all the errata and upgrade card pack for Armada, then AMG pushed the "2.5" ruleset and stopped any further Armada support as far as physical releases (it's probably dying on the vine but I'm hopeful it's just on life support). This is basically MCP with a Star Wars flavor.
I am not interested in Shatterpoint. I don't like the choices AMG made with MCP and if this is Star Wars MCP that'd probably be enough to put me off. The scale change, however, makes this a non-starter. I will not reward a company for making such an anti-consumer decision.

I think adding any kind of excitement for non-GW games is a good value for the community, and we work hard to provide that.
