Note: While console versions were announced initially for Gestalt: Steam & Cinder it seems that it will now appear on Steam/PC first with a Switch version to follow. Release dates for PS/XBOX seem up in the air. Apologies for having all consoles listed!
Not to sound funny towards PC but I hope releasing it first to PC is a way to figure out what needs to be patched and upgraded for console release and also response from the video game community..
@@necrophagiakc This typically happens to see how reception of the game/sales go. It can be very expensive to get your game listed on consoles and is not always an easy process.
Very hefty pricetag for a 6 hour long game tbh. Around 10-12$ would be more acceptable for these bite sized games that are coming out so often recently.
I remember being intrigued by this when I first saw this. I like steampunk and I like a great metroidvania, so this had my eye. It seems like it could have done with having a bit more time cooking, but given its drawbacks, I think I'll be waiting for a deeper sale before I pick this up. Thanks for the review.
I remind everyone to not be so quickly critical of a games faults. It still takes dozens and dozens of hours to produce this kind of product and the devs worked really hard on the art and presentation. Just remember that humans made this game and they deserve some respect and credit!
I agree with your sentiment, but it’s more like hundreds or thousands of hours. It took me 3 years to release my indie game, and the comments like “looks like it was made in a weekend by a 13 year old” hurt the most. Most gamers have no idea the huge time investment that goes into game development.
@@mojojojo6432 absolutely right its more like hundreds or more. People in todays gaming sphere totally discount the work that goes into making anything. Its a product of the oversaturation and short attention spans weve developed. Its a shame, most good games dont get the recognition they deserve
You're right, but from a consumers perspective it is a game / option of many to choose from. So the game should be treated as any other title with the same objective criticism, independent of hard work or amount of hours put into it.
@@Eishern Totally, but I guess the lesson Im trying to pitch, is to just be nicer about games as an art, its hard work. And making a good game takes a lot more work than people might understand. Just try to be kind to indie devs, as they are likely less experienced and have less resources to make the polished games you might be expecting at times. Cheers!
I had a feeling the game would end up being a touch disappointing. The delays, the release, and the staggered console ports have all the hallmarks of a game that had some troubled development. And then - perhaps due to publisher anxieties - it just needed to see release. Hopefully they can fix it up, but I feel like we were dazzled by the early previews and graphics and not quite considering what it could end up being.
@IDreamofIndie “The Calamity” as an event that rents the heavens is definitely reminiscent of the FFXIV event which heralds the start of the Seventh Umbral Era during which the game’s narrative - not sure if that’s what may have rung a bell?
I blew through a bunch of demos this weekend, and most of them were duds; this is the only one that wasn't, and it left me *jazzed*. I'm in full agreement about the map, but I did like most of what else there was on offer; if you've played the demo, would you say it's fairly representative of the final game? The convoluted story and dumb enemies don't bother me too much, so long as the mechanics are polished, and these felt good to me; almost 9 Years of Shadows good.
I wonder what the state of the devs are-- this is quite lackluster and should have had some early access phase to it. I wonder if it will get a Death's Gambit Afterlife treatment in the future. I've been waiting for years for this seeing the early preview but I regret getting this over Biomorph
…oh. After watching the review, it sounds like this game unfortunately became a shell of what it was supposed to be. That’s a terrible shame as we could sure use a good steampunk Metroidvania in addition to SteamWorld Dig 2.
@@IDreamofIndie man that sucks. If it doesn’t show up we’ll guess I’ll get it on PC. Rather get a platinum for it than Steam achievements. Hopefully Meifumado also releases its ps5 version. Coming to Steam first.

I was really excited for this, but thanks to this review i guess is a pass. Anyway at least there are many other great metroidvanias released and releasing soon.

I was expecting a prestige metroidvania but this sounds surprisingly rough. Damn.
It certainly has its issues but remains worth checking out!
