    Thank you!!! We do not raise corn because the farmer raises 168 acres behind us. A friend on the other side of the county does and they freeze creamed corn and we can get the cobs from them.

    Hi! Sandra here, from Ontario, Canada. I came to watch *after* I made mine. Lol I have been surprised at what i find! Adding sugars, adding tartar, adding extra water to prevent crystals, are some variations i have seen.. I boiled a huge kettle of cobs full. My estimate is 5 dozen, or 60 cobs. I kept boiling it, after i removed the cobs, to Reduce. I added nothing to it. I strained it out with coffee filters, across a sieve. I then brought it back to boil and boiled another half hour and bottled it. I ended up with 3 pints. I have no idea is this will hold in the jars. Nor if it will be thick. But i certainly did a lot of Reducing! I have a light gold colour. I added no sugar, because it is Corn Syrup. I am.thinking of maple syrup. You do not add sugar or anything to it.... I love going on food adventures! I stopped buying store corn syrup about 25 years ago! I knew of the dangers of High Fructose Corn Syrup, because they made it near me. And i knee about GMO corn, etc. I never really cooked with syrup, so it was not a huge loss to me. I still have a boughten bottle on my shelf, unopened! Ha! But i wanted to not waste my gift of cobs! Give it a roll! This is the first time i have canned corn and i did that with raw cut off corn. So i had all these virgin cobs! Perfect time to try it!

      Hi!! There all kinds of recipes for spent cobs! Mine is more like a syrup for pancakes rather than a corn syrup for baking. I’ve never tried doing that- bet it takes a while, no??

      @@Our_Urban_Homestead yes it took a few hours om gas burner. I think i did 6 hrs boiling. I debated on doing sugar. But i really wanted to try making straight up Pure and see if it holds okay in sealed jars.

    The problem with making your own syrup is the cost of your heat to cook the mixture which is more than the cost of buying syrup at the Store.
    The same applies with making your own soap and detergents.

    How long is the syrup normally shelf stable for? And is any acid required to help maintain the shelf life longer?

    I did a "corn" search on your page to find the corn relish from your southwest eggroll video and got sidetracked with this video. I'm embarrassed to say that I was halfway through this video before I realized you are making Corn Syrup - like what I buy in the store to make peanut brittle. Duh. I used to always say, "I'm a blonde trapped in a brunette's body." Apparently this is still true.

    • @Our_Urban_Homestead
      @Our_Urban_Homestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      🤣 This is actually much thinner than the syrup you use for peanut brittle. It’s more like a maple syrup consistency. We use it on pancakes and waffles…. Or my favorite- on a hot buttered biscuit!!
