I have brushed and flossed my teeth for well over 45 years and also went to the dentist every 6 months for well over the past 30 years. This past August I had a full mouth x-ray done and low and behold I have periodontitis. They discovered that I have bone loss. No bleeding gums, no pain and no swelling, however, my gums have been receding for several years and not one dental professional cared to look into it further. It was only after the full mouth X-ray that they discovered I had bone loss. As a result, I now am brushing each time I brush, with 2 different toothbrushes and 2 different toothpastes, I still continue to floss and I am also using the interdental brushes every day and using a water flosser at night. It would have been nice if one of my dentists would have discovered that there was a problem when my gums started to recede.

I have gingivitis and after delaying it for years because of severe phobia, I'll be going this week! I'll probably faint, or cry, or both, but I just hope I'll be okay and that my dentist will be as sweet and careful as you😭
I figured out I would get a canker sore often but I realized it was linked to ibuprofen… so I stopped taking ibuprofen and started taking aleve naproxen.. after I switched over to that and stopped taking ibuprofen I never got a canker sore again.
Thank you, I am the poster child for you, I did everything just as you stated, to the letter, for 7 yrs I had perfect reports from my dentist, after an infection, I went to another dentist, then the wheels came off, I lost 3 molars, I can get 1 implant, the others there are deep pockets, not infected but I can not get a bridge using those tooth. anyway, this dentist who did this to me, he is a hero for his actions, yes these things still go on, I wish that I was a lair, no every word is true, I reported him to the Dental Board of my state, I am sure that they will sugar coat it. anyway keep doing your best
Excellent video!! Since so many people claim to brush and floss every day and doing it so well but still have lots of gingivitis and worse the conclusion must be that it is indeed very difficult to have perfect hygiene. This person is a dental hygenist with a lot knowledge and I would like to ask how often it would be advicable to get a professional cleaning to have healthy teeth for life. The enemy is alive BACTERIA attacking your gum 24 hours per day -- I would say that it is necessary to have a cleaning each 30th day to be safe.

I brush with Toms, I floss with the string once a day and water pick once a day. I do salt water rinses and see the dentist twice a year. I went recently and they told me to do the salt water rinses for two weeks. Then come back in two weeks. If nothing has changed they will do a biopsy. 😮

This just happened to me and it only happened because my Wisdom Tooth started acting up. In a few hours my right lower molar was being covered with swollen gums. Somehow the pain went away, but my gums are still fat like wth. It only hurts when I press down hard. This sucks.
Your Dentist will tell you to do warm salt water swishes after he/she has done procedures. I add the baking soda to neutralize mouth acids and make for a non-productive environment for the bad bacteria. Sore gums? Don't really see how it could do any harm. I do two 30 second swishes every day. Last checkup two weeks ago was A+. I also oil pull for 20 minutes first thing in the morning. Hope this helps.
Im 25 and Ive never been to a real dentist, my parents couldn't afford it so when i was 13 we found a lady who did dental work in her KITCHEN..yes she pulled out 3 teeth and put me on braces 🤣🤣🤣 it was painful but i always assumed that was normal ? Anyways I've had swollen gums since then and i brush my teeth everyday 2 times a day but it wont go away.. now 10 years later Im finally going to a real dentist to get a cleaning and im scared 🤣
Please make sure to get checked for boneloss o.o even professionally done braces can cause it, so there is a real risk when someone just gave you braces in their kitchen.

I’m 17 years old and 2 months ago I was told I have gingivitis. Sadly no one told me that that could happen when putting braces, one reason I got braces was cuz I was insecure about my gap and now that it got closed I have another problem to deal with 😭

It’s all red and puffy, and I tried all kinds of mouthwash and then I even tried not using any toothpaste just warm water and a soft toothbrush and water pic and floss. It’s like six months and I thought I would be like this forever and it looks like it’s calming down, but it’s very hard to keep it clean because food gets stuck under there. It’s my front tooth where I bite down on food
it depends on the patient! for most patients it does not replace -- it's only additional. however, there are cases where it can. always follow your dental provider's recommendations for your individual mouth since dentistry is not a 1-size fits all :) hope this helps!

I literally brush 3 times a day everyday, and Monday I started to develope ulcers in my throat and then on my cheeks and now I'm struggling to swallow my own saliva and i can barely eat or drink my gums are also swollen, can anyone help me understand what it may be. @@beardiemom apparently it was an oral thrush caused by overuse of mouthwash, apparently overusing mouthwash could get rid of needed bacteria which could cause oral thrush, at least that's what the doctor said to me.

I would say no Garcia. I water floss 3 times a day though and string floss at night. I don't think much of tooth picking so I water floss x 3. Seeing some fabulous results! I use the water flosser with the hand held reservoir.

What if you can’t get a dental hygienist to clean your teeth everywhere you go they won’t clean your teeth. They just look at your mouth and say you’re fine but you know you are having these problems. I don’t understand people don’t want to do their job or something or they’re against women of color I don’t understand can somebody direct me and help me find a hygienist that will actually clean and work with my teeth, I am losing teeth because I can’t get proper care along way. I can only do so much then after a while I have to be forced to have my teeth extracted so I am missing five. I don’t understand. I’m not a bad patient I said, do you like they asked me to it takes three minutes or less and they tell me there’s nothing wrong with your teeth, but I am telling him I am having gum trouble and they say oh there’s nothing wrong. I do before and after tbh.. bc as soon as I wake up I’ll have really bad breath plus all the plaque and bacteria overnight then after I eat I will have build up plaque in my teeth all day so it’s best to brush before and after if possible !!

Night time clenching and teeth grinding can also take a huge toll on your gums. I'm speaking from experience.

Colgate Total Gum Health Mouthwash is what worked Great for me.
I did 3 mouth rinsing with it and it worked great.
Did it make the swelling go down?
Did that help with the swelling? I think I'll buy some next time I'm at the store because Act Restore mouthwash isn't doing anything.

Any benefits washing your mouth with warm salt water once a week? Even if you don't have dental problems.
My noontime oral is 1/4 tsp sea salt and 1/4 tsp baking soda swish in warm water. That's daily.

My dental hygienist told me that the waterpik replaces my oral b dental floss. I'm confused as u said it does not replace dental floss.
it depends on the patient! for most patients it does not replace -- it's only additional. however, there are cases where it can. always follow your dental provider's recommendations for your individual mouth since dentistry is not a 1-size fits all :) hope this helps!

Sounds like you had some kind of infection. Did it clear up or did you see a doctor about it? Super curious what it ended up being.

Just be careful with antibiotics though. It isn't good for your microbiome/gut health.

Do I need to brush my teeth when I wake up? My parents didn't teach me to do this before breakfast, but I have been seeing a lot of people do this.
You can do it either before or after breakfast
It should be before you have breakfast
I do before and after tbh.. bc as soon as I wake up I’ll have really bad breath plus all the plaque and bacteria overnight then after I eat I will have build up plaque in my teeth all day so it’s best to brush before and after if possible !!
