I think more than any of the amazing technique, excellent teaching style, top gear, etc. it is Tim's joy in playing that we should all learn from. Watch his face when he is playing out. That is the "technique" I think is most important to be a great guitar player and Tim teaches that best of all.
Dayuummm, Chills the whole way thru that intro. dang Man. whew. Love that Jimi tune. I was 12 when I got into Jimi,I was 14 when I REALLY GOT JIMI. I"ll be 65 in a few months, yeah the journey's deep with Jimi. Lovin' the Vibe, Tim !! Axis Bold as Love!!
I love that you show me things that i have not seen before. I am so grateful that use 9 gauge strings. Space between the notes is what makes the music. The intro blows me away. You are an amazing teacher. Please keep making these amazing videos.
It really saddens me to even try to think what kind of mindset would "thumbs down" this teaching session. I've been playing 50 years and this was fresh for me! Thanks Tim!
You have got to be the best guitarist ever.I have never heard anyone that has the kind of diversity and absolute masterful playing that you do. Your so good it makes me sick.( meant as a compliment)
I generally HATE SHREDDING, but this is definitely something different, which might be mistaken as shredding. On the other hand, perhaps this is a pure, original example of it. So much of shredding, just sounds like... noise. This has something else to it..., musicality..., soul. LOVE IT!
Really valuable your insight into "free time". It's one of the things I've always loved about Clapton's playing but never really understood it until now. Thanks Tim.
Thank you, that was beautiful! Always amazing to see how you master so many styles of playing. Red House is one of the songs that once made me want to begin playing the guitar. I'm not sure I feel ready for it yet, but this video sure pushed me a bit closer to give it a go.
@@carlsmith1263 On the contrary Carl. I've learned an immense amount. For the record, "they" is "he." Tim teaches every lesson, with excellent support material, excellent camera angles. Yes, he really does want to teach anyone who wants to learn. Unfortunately, because I started late in life - my fingers don't always do what I want them to. For example, I'm giving your a finger now, but that's not really what I want them to do.
Build your fingers strength up. There's many ways to do it. Your ass is probably your first thought though. Maybe your mouth next. Sadly the guitar will sit alone.
Great play, very beautiful and best of all you like to share it with us, not note by note, but more to the overall view of the play. Thanks a lot Tim! Cheers from Indonesia.
I think you nailed the tone, and the vibe of that piece Tim - the Hendrix performance I know is live, so he has that natural delay from the live environment IMO
Great playing! Great video Tim! I agree! I usually use 9's or 10's if I'm using a guitar specifically for slide. I've played up to 11's and I bend them(and 10's) out of tune and I feel the 9's stay in better/are more expressive.
Great lesson! It's refreshing to know that you use 9's for lead. I struggle with 10's (for bends at least), plus I have a disability in my fretting hand. I think 9's could be the future. I was always under the impression that 10's offer better tone; listening to you play, that doesn't show. Oh, Hendrix is God! Love these lessons. Thanks :-)
Arcane Arts I was using 9’s as I just said to this person up somewhere in the posts. Hand issue. Had no choice wasn’t going to give up my hobby I love. I need to bend so went with Billy Gibbons thinner strings. Now I’m playing again. Not going back to 9s. A lot of guys secretly use thinner strings if u want to play for many years. If thicker strings make a man more of a man it’s ridiculous.
I like the balls to the walls, flash vs your choice which sounds to me, totally anemic. I loved your intro at the head. I come from the era of Clapton playing Sweet Wine, NSU, at the Fillmore West, with Ginger Baker, and Jack.
And Jimi kissing Clapton on the cheek in 1966 when he arrived in England. “The fairest soul brother,” Hendrix spoke. As my drummer once told ME in LA, “Put some meat on the bones, Riff.” Lastly my comments are just feedback. Hendrix loved Feedback. “I don’t play guitar, I play amplifier.” (JMH) Good upload- good topic. Kudos to you.
Great lesson Tim!!! I always get something valuable from your videos. Any chance of doing a lesson on Rush? I would love to get your insight on what Alex Lifeson is doing during songs such as La Villa Strangiato. Thanks so much 🤘🎶😎
Thank you for your insight. Great playing and food for thought! There's no right or wrong in musical expression, it's just that. Hendrix never played this the same way twice either. For me, the Woodstock version was his most passionate, but the studio version with that great bass lily pad that Jimi jumped onto that low E 4th is the best! Nice studio BTW!
Man Tim that was some awesome Hendrix! Yeah maybe you over-played a little but it was still great. I liked it even better with some spaces in it. Just more soulful. I think that's why I really didn't care much for the solo's of the 80's. It became too "noisy" when the lead guitarists ripped it all the time and no "spaces". The 60's and 70's to me were the golden years of rock and blues. The feeling in the solo's
Thanks for talking about the hum bucker pickup in your guitar. Can anyone tell me which model it is...I've looked all over the internet today trying to see if Tim talks about it. Thanks! Great video!
The version of Red House on “In the West” is in my humble opinion, the finest blues ever. It’s also sonic evidence that Jimi was from a world other than this.
thanks Tim and I was glad to hear you were a Johnny winter fan as well, he was my 1st guitar influence and then Billy gibbons, makes senses since I believe I am the same age as you (57) any way great video and how about a Johnny winter tune sometime , might I suggest "still alive and well" killer tune
Hendrix's recording of "Red House" has a one repeat tape echo that's a bit longer than slap: more like 250ms. The echo is hard panned to the opposite side of the lead guitar. The Strymon Deco is an awesome tool to emulate it. Pretty sure that's how it was done on the recording: two reel to reel decks. Similar thing done with the vocal I think. The bass guitar sounds so massive on that recording. It gives the guitar a bed to travel all over. One of Eddie Kramer's masterpieces for sure!
CNCTEMATIC - C..MATIC, Thank you, for the tech analysis. Most people, though, aren't CLOSE to your knowledge and "experience" (gag). To all viewing, you reason "a 250 ms" tape-delay "echo". Maybe I'm wrong, but a simple conversion : 250ms (1/4 sec) delay... would be key, for us dummies, very interested, but not familiar with the "studio shop-talk". Thanks again, for your tech explanation. Jimi's creative GENIUS, assisted by producer Kramer's tech + gear, had them BOTH, literally PLAYING-AROUND in the studio (tapes backward, echo, etc.) to create the MOST INFLUENTIAL MUSIC of the 20th century (incl Gershwin, Stravinsky, Bernstein, et al.). Please correct me, if I'm wrong... -MarkT, Michigan, US.
Great job Tim. Can we get a little "Freedom" next? Glad to hear about 9s vs 10s. I feel the same way. I have 10s on my Strat and I'm trying to get used to them because you're "supposed to use 10s" if you want a pro sound, but I've always used 9s and that's what I'm sticking with.
Tim, re: 9s vs 10s, you might try 9.5s (e.g., D'Addario EXL 120+, Super Light Plus, 9.5-44). I find them a remarkably effective, if obvious, compromise.
6:50 - How are you counting the alternating 11th fret chimes in that first bar? I think it's a 12/8 time signature, right? So do you count the 12 beats as even, straight notes? |1&2&3&4&5&6&| Or in triplets? |1-tri-plet 2-tri-plet 3-tri-plet 4-tri-plet|
Hey Tim - fantastic playing as always. Would love for you to show us some of your stuff off of Dweezil's "Confessions" album - especially your solo part on the tune "Fwak" - that phrasing is unbelievably tasty!
Thank you Tim 😊 Would you please do a lesson on Red House from "In the west" recorded at San Diego Sports Arena 5/24/69 🙏 it's by far my favourite version with Jimi 🔥
THIS IS PASSION THIS IS HEART THIS IS SOUL this is the kind of guy i need as a teacher.

Where would we all be without Hendrix 🤩
Well that's a great start to the weekend. Turns out that me at my fastest and flashiest is what real guitarists called "underplaying".
You haven't seen underplaying until you've seen my flashy side... lol
same
Speed is not the most important aspect of blues at all.
Lmao yes
Damn Tim , that opening riff was so smokin that my monitor almost caught fire . Great Job as always .
That's because Hendrix came up with it ;). True power
Frank lol yep
There goes tim pierce absolutely nailing it.
I love that you show me things that i have not seen before. I am so grateful that use 9 gauge strings. Space between the notes is what makes the music. The intro blows me away. You are an amazing teacher. Please keep making these amazing videos.
Playing aside, your ability to break it down and keep it interesting musically, is another of your gifts. Thanks,
It really saddens me to even try to think what kind of mindset would "thumbs down" this teaching session. I've been playing 50 years and this was fresh for me! Thanks Tim!
Bob Parsons, Artist they’re trolls that just open up any video and thumb it down, for no reason..sick people..trust me..
Agreed. I don't get it either
Guys with very very VERY tiny willies, I'm guessing. Sad really.
Dunning Kruger effect?
Tim, you are a fantastic talent. I thank you for your generosity in educating those of us who need it. Well done sir.
Absolutely...dude is not from this planet ! Aliens have landed and are among us..HE IS ONE OF THEM !
You have got to be the best guitarist ever.I have never heard anyone that has the kind of diversity and absolute masterful playing that you do. Your so good it makes me sick.( meant as a compliment)
try listening to hendrix or page or beck. you will lose your mind

WOW! I wasn't even 2 seconds in and... IT'S ON! This guitar may be glued to my hands for the next few hours.
Really valuable your insight into "free time". It's one of the things I've always loved about Clapton's playing but never really understood it until now. Thanks Tim.
The best part of it is how tight is your sense of rythm! Tastefull playing and very precise and technical!
my impression within the first few milliseconds: that sound is positively awesome!
one of the best guitarists in the world, i think
Tim you are my kind of guitar player. All the ability in the world but you always manage to serve the song beautifully
old video just seeing it, what a great way to take the notes a few at a time.
Tim you are such an inspiration. Thanks for all you do.
You're such an amazing player and teacher Tim! I really love the Hendrix lessons you do! Thanks for all your great videos!
Being a musician for so many years and keeping such passion is so good to see.A fan from Gabon(excuse my english i usually speak French😆😆)
the intro to this vid is effing epic
Thank you, that was beautiful! Always amazing to see how you master so many styles of playing. Red House is one of the songs that once made me want to begin playing the guitar. I'm not sure I feel ready for it yet, but this video sure pushed me a bit closer to give it a go.
Your happiness when playing is infectious :) Thank you for posting.
You offered a great lesson on guitar “artistry”. And “emotion”. Fantastic. !!! Thank you
I really enjoy the extra anecdotes such as 9 vs. 10 string gauge, and touching on the humbucker pick-up. Keep up the great work!1
The outro lickery at 1:27 is out of this world!!!
Sounds great! Her sister will ! Sounds amazing Tim
You killed it Tim! Awesome.
2.5 years later....I still can't play it up to speed. Still one of my favorite episodes in the Master Class. Thanks Tim. I've learned a lot.
Then you havent Learned a lot. Do you think they really want to teach you? Itd put em out a job

Also master class is bullshit. "THERE ARE NO MASTERS OF GUITAR- B.B.KING".
Wow!! That’s why you’re a legend sir.
Jimi II!
I recently subscribed to your Masterclass lessons and they are great!
Ha! I'm so used to 11's. 9's feel like a spider's web to me. I can't even imagine tuned to Eb. Absolutely killer tone and playing there, Tim.
andrewt248 same here,11s at Eb
Holy spanks Batman! This lesson is A-W-E-S-O-M-E ! I am subscribing to your masterclass as soon as I have the scratch!
Another stellar lesson and walkthrough! I did a double-take when Tim mentioned using nines for soloing and tens for rhythm! I was like, "Whaaaaa?"
Makes sense. As I experience more joint pain in my fingers, I'm starting to go that way too. I probably should go to 8's as per Billy Gibbons.
LightningDogg I had too. The Dunlop rev billy gibbons strings r great.
Great play, very beautiful and best of all you like to share it with us, not note by note, but more to the overall view of the play. Thanks a lot Tim!
Cheers from Indonesia.
This style of music begs for both if the mood takes it. Nice playing
You should definitely do more content on blues... sounds great.
Nice setup. Great skill. EXCELLENT performance.
More Red House! Yes!!!!
Excellent lesson Tim. I enjoy your Detail ,so I subscribed ! Like your VIBE! Thank you!
perfect example of why hendrix was amazing
God the tones!!! Eargasms!!!
