I started playing guitar a couple of years ago, when I turned 50. If you’d told me then that I’d be playing a convincing Red House, I’d have said you were crazy. But here I am, jamming the hell out of this. Not only have I learned a ton from your lessons, but the pentatonic foundation, fretboard mapping, and awesome licks that you have taught me over so many great songs have really gelled for me. Can’t thank you enough. I’m very happy for all the success that you’ve had with your channel, it’s entirely deserved.

WOW! You’ve inspired me to start playing. I keep doubting myself thinking I’ll get frustrated and quit. Mind telling me what your practice habits are and if you take lessons? Thanks.

      Edward Evans
I’ll help you out: focus on the result. To play Red House. Recognizably. Pace yourself. Maybe 30 minutes a day. Or as much as you want.
It’s like building a brick wall. One brick at a time.
Don’t get depressed and give up. Keep chipping away at it. Focus on the result
It’s the same if you’re a carpenter or guitar player
I’ve been playing for decades, and this is the toughest lesson I’ve had to learn. To be focused on getting the result: to play the song fully through.
#2. Get a working musician/guitar tutor. Not a smart phone app. Ask him to show you your WEAKNESSES, and strengthen them.
Get a tutor that you LIKE. Not a cocky smug metal shredder.
#3. Buy a guitar and amp that make the notes fly out of your fingers. That Makes you want to play.
      Any questions?

Marty, I just started playing about 10 months ago. I never would have thought I would be playing hendrix before at least 10 years of experience but her I am 10 months in, playing red house. And thanks to you, I can play little wing, castles made of sand, purple haze and many many more. I started on acoustic but my dad bought me a player series telecaster because he saw my potential and If it wasn't for your videos, I wouldn't have gotten into guitar and gotten a beautiful blueberry burst telecaster

Your progress (from a year ago) is similar to mine. I started 8 months ago and never even would’ve thought about Playing a full song but here i am learning and improvising over red house. My parents bought me a boss katana 100w Mk2 and I used some of my money I bought a 800$ epiphone Les Paul. I wish you well on your guitar journey😁. Also are you related to dk metcalf. I’m just asking because he’s a great wr and you have the same last name

Great job showing the bends and the expressions you can get out of bending a 3 note phrase. It's fun when you take a nicely set up guitar, kick up the creamy tone and just go to town above the 12th fret.

Love Red House. We have Red House Records here in St. Paul that over the last few years has signed David Bromberg, Larry Campbell and Jorma Kaukonen & Hot Tuna to go along with longtime stalwart Greg Brown and his talented daughter Pieta. A lot of talent for a small Midwest record company.

Love your stuff Marty! I'm not nearly good enough to attempt any Jimi yet (as if anyone ever is), but I watch these just for fun. I find it funny how you have a lot of sub 10-minute videos for typical songs, but if Jimi comes up, be prepared to be glued to the screen for 20 to 30 minutes and still feel just as confused as to how Jimi came up with this stuff.

Damn you've been gaining subscribers on your new channel like crazy. That makes me so happy. You deserve nothing less! You are a fantastic musician and an even better instructor. Please don't stop doing what you are doing Marty. Even though I don't know you personally you've always been my go to whenever I want to learn something on guitar. You have helped many of us a great deal. You've showed me over the years that nothing is impossible to play and to never give up. I have learned more from you than from the lessons I took for years as a teenager. You just have that special touch when it comes to teaching people how to play. As a fan of many, many years I would love if you did a lesson of Jimi Hendrix's hear my train. Preferably the acoustic version. Many thanks for everything you've done and continue to do! God bless you Marty and long live Marty Music!

Another Great "MARTY" as I bookmark them. Well, I've gotten through "Wind Cries Mary", "Little Wing", "Hey Joe" and your various Tips. At the point where I know what to play (thanks to YOU), now just some fine tuning on the style which will come. Just saw this "Red House" clip and it's next on the list. Thanks Marty!! You have been a HUGE help. All those years of rewinding the cassette and learning by ear was good, but you have Hyper-Driven the learning experience. And for that I am truly Grateful. Keep Teaching !!

no matter how hard we all may try, we can get the tab of notes right on - but one can never make it sound improvised, it like it did the first time when he recorded it..like "it just happened that way type feel"...man he was so innovative with the blues riffs and relative major sounds. Marty you sound terrific as usual! thank you for the video! Red House has been one of my favorites to play for a long time...but i still love learning more about the song!
