He's not back... he probably went and got a job in a shop that pays better and is more enjoyable because no good mechanic would work full time for donut.
It actually is a serious and real issue. It an electric motor driving an actuator. Something stripped out inside, reaches end and bang! Somebody tried to slam it shut by force probably.
As someone who lives in Alaska, oil pan heaters are very common. Its called winterization. Very necessary when the weather can get to -50°. Wait till you see our parking lots that have outlets at every space. A lot of tourists think alaskan vehicles are electric when they see em all plugged in 😂
Same here in MT, gets as cold if not colder speaking from experience (grew up in AK) and I feel bad for the car folks from less extreme climates not having a clue how to deal with it. Used to see alot of customers come into the parts store w a myriad of cold related questions and concerns and some needed ALOT of hand holding lol That's funny too, about the parking power outlets, I'd totally forgotten that Lil quirk😅
Definitely the same people, the same production, and under the same umbrella. However it’s not the channel known as doughnut. That’s why my first comment starts with “yes and no”
He did an amazing job, I follow that build and have since his 3rd video on it. One day I plan on building my magnum similar to his and learned a lot from him on it.
Crazy. I used to watch him long ago before he gained any popularity. Last I saw a video of his the charger magnum was just beginning or maybe even just an idea
6:55. I've actually seen that on cars in the northern states where it gets much colder. The plug hands out of the front grill. Owner takes an extension cord, plugs it into the plug from the grill. Heating pad warms up the oil pan and oil, while your eating breakfast, getting ready for work, or whatever. Makes the cold start a lot less harsh on the engine, and you don't have to wait as long for the vehicle to warm up and the oil to start flowing properly, as it helps the process. Still would need to let it heat up to operating temp so the metal parts can expand properly. But overall if setup properly I don't see any harm. As long as it doesn't touch moving parts. Short out anything else it may touch. It seems useful if that's a problem you deal with.
Ah, memories. Once when I was destitute and homeless, someone gave me a free Volvo if I could get it to start. Which was not the biggest problem, it was just the transmission interlock, I bypassed it and it started right up. The biggest problem was that it had been rear ended which destroyed all the lights. It also killed the headlights somehow, no idea why. I affixed trailer lights to the bumper, went to wire them in, and discovered that someone had snipped that entire part of the wiring harness off. No idea why. Anyway, I'm homeless, got $20 to my name, very limited tools, no multimeter. So, I wire them all to toggle switches that I mounted in a piece of cardboard and taped to the dash. Got fancy and had a three-way toggle with a blinker relay for turn signals. I had to screw a giant button to the brake pedal to get those lights working. Did this all in an Autozone parking lot, I might add. Lived in that thing for like 6 months and put 10,000 miles on it.
Probably cut the wiring to get the lights to stop or something similar. When a vehicles horn gets stuck on after an accident the fire dept will cut wires to get it to turn off. Hope your doing well my man.
I really appreciate having someone truly knowledgeable to listen to. Sandro is up there too but Aaron is a true master of his craft. He’s the type of man I would want as a friend
Aaron always has me rolling when he starts rambling in his situation stories. He's the one homie that can start a full on conversation about something else and have you forgetting what you asked him about.
I don't work on cars, but that story about (not) disconnecting the battery is Hella relatable as someone who once forgot to remove the "remove before use" sticker from a CPU heatsink.
In my aviation mechanic days, I was the primary focal for doing wiring/electrical jobs. 1. Nobody else had the patience/or enough understanding to go through a wiring diagram that sometimes stretched through 13 pages of 11x17in paper. 2. Nobody wanted to touch it, being afraid to short something out or get zapped. it was quite satisfying in the end, when you're updating an older small airplane with more modern avionics, and you end up with a ton of dead wires that you cleared out, left over from several previous avionics changes.
On the modern jets, the electrical system packs a wallop, but my bread and butter at that time was in General Aviation (Cessna 172s, Beech Duchess, as high as Cessna 414), so i worked with 12 to 24 volt systems. Though it would still tickle a bit if you touched the wrong wire by accident.
My dad was a mechanic when he was young, and he said one time, when he was doing work on a car, he had someone helping him who put a wrench on the battery. Thing was right across the posts. He said by the time he noticed it, the wrench was turning orange. Bloody terrifying. Battery almost blew up.
12:40 As an Australian that looks like an (80s) E series Ford Falcon. Just a guess, but the steering wheel n dash look familiar. Could also just be a Brat. I'm more of a Holden guy though. Also was funny hearing "it's right hand rive man" at .25 speed.
When I lived in Alaska we had to put heat pads for the oil, heat blankets for the battery , heat plugs for the block and radiator to keep it from freezing. We'd have to plug it in when we parked.
Yeah. I was in Edmonton, Alberta, and even that is just ridiculous. Batteries lose like half of their power, the oil is practically grease. Even when you get the vehicle running, your brakes might be frozen, and your shocks will be rock hard too. Learned a lot from living there for a few years, glad I am not dealing with that shit any more.
It’s like that everywhere in Canada . Some car like Jetta mk6 tdi have something similar from the factory. I think it’s hard to find it in the USA but it’s standard for those model in Canada. But I will say that they become more rare on with newer car . With old diesel truck in some place that you couldn’t plug the truck you had to lights up a toilet paper roll full gas under the oil pan if you whanted to start it in a cold morning 😂
Loved watching Aaron go all out on Netflix's Hyperdrive competition in his sick RX7. Good to see him on Donut, what a great dude! If there is ever another Hyperdrive competition, I hope they have him back on it.
6:00 That custom done heater is probably someone who lives in a northern environment where it gets below -20C/-4F. Many cars in Canada are bought with heater blocks installed from the factory so cars can be started when it gets really cold. That homemade one thought looks sketchy AF.
3:54 funny thing... those prop rod pistons are probably the issue, not the electrical. I have seen gmc, subies, yotas... all do the same thing. $20 pistons fixes it almost 100% of the time. Cool trick, and scarry as hell.
"Get yourself a cat." Bro I have a cat and left the garage open the other day. A tiny mouse got in the house and my cat was just chilling with the mouse. No attempt at catching it whatsoever.
Even if the cat doesn't actually hunt the mouse they leave pheromones around that mice tend to avoid. When they rub their face on stuff that's what they're doing.
A rodent ate into the wiring of my BMW years ago - that was a $700 fix. If rodents can do that sort of damage to a 12V system, imagine what sort of damage they would do to an EV with their high voltage systems. Probably would have more visible fried rats around the car, I suppose, but even partially chewed but still functioning high voltage cables will be a major safety problem. I wouldn't want to be in a car with a 700V system with shorts in it.
for the subaru outback, by guess would be that the motor lifts the tailgate but the one or both of the struts have failed causing the tailgate to fall due to the struts not supporting it
The Subaru lift gate was more than likely the gas strut worn out. I had another vehicle that would do the same thing with an automatic lift gate. It’s designed to lift the gate then let the gas strut hold it in the upper position. I changed my struts and it worked fine.
Yessss ... plz plz get Aaron back in the Donut videos ... miss his rad skillz on da builds and his dope rides ... peace and love all keep it rad stay safe safe build on l8z famz and keep having fun

Whenever I buy a car or motorbike I try to buy a workshop manual with a wiring diagram and my current bike did come with a wiring diagram with the owners manual which made it so easy for me to wire in a few things.
I love these guys man. Nolan, Aaron, Angelina and Sandro, they've built a good team up here. About the cars... yeah, electronics are very tricky, we got a car at home, doesn't start and we've looked and looked for the problem, spark plugs, fuses, battery, distributor, ECU, car still didn't run, only cranks.
So, the magnum with a hellcat. That guy was in progress when you pulled up a clip. He could have had a very detailed home-drawn schematic he was using for that spaghetti mess he had. He mentioned he was preparing to loom it after he got everything routed. (not how I would do it, but if it worked for him, I can't fault it) Also, he mentioned that he "tacked in" a steering shaft, this is very common to do just to get something to your dino appointment. It isn't permanent, but He needed it to hold together just for one dino session and then, once returned home, he'd final weld it. I love seeing the usual butchery, but, in that case, I'd say hold judgement until you see the finished product. It may be MUCH nicer than you think since you were seeing it mid-process.
Back in the 1990s, I self-installed a Crutchfield car alarm out of yearning to protect and safeguard my '91 Geo Prizm with a sweet (based on my revenue stream at the time) Alpine CD / tape adapter deck. I got more than a few notes from my neighbors because I had unwisely decided not to install the ground wire on some static piece of the car's chassis, but rather took this stranded wire and stuck it under my driver's side seat. Just why ignore electrical, brothas.
First off the very first video is Junkyard Dave who took a Hellcat and put a Magnum hatch on it. He didn't do a front clip of a charger, he did it the hard way, magnum hatch on a charger. . Aaron!! Great to see you back with Donut again mate!... I really hope this means they've finished filming season 2 of Overdrive. Although I know nobody will be allowed to talk about it. But good God I still want more of that show.
One thing I learned from working as a mechanic, Wurth has a great lubricant called HHS 5000, and what one of the senior mechanics said, mice absolutely detest it for some reason. So if you have a rodent problem, just spray it here and there to make them stay away
Literally just googled "what happened to Aaron from Donut" two days ago. This guy deserves to come back, he put up with way too much BS in hi lo to be left hanging low. Glad to see relations weren't broken, now bring him back cause I'm willing to be he can nurture the WRXs.
7:40....pretty normal for canada...block heater pre-heats the coolant...oil pan pre-heater heats the oil...third one is either for a battery heater or an interior heater
No matter what the reason of your departure from hi low, we're really glad to see you back Aaron. Hope to see you back on donut with their new project cars too. Edit: and see hi and low car again and see their difference since you go.
12:15 Get a cat. It works. I have no rodents in my place but you get the occasional cockroach. The other night I saw one land on the wall and it kept flying around. The cat was on it. He saw, he came, he conquered. Basically he waited until it got low enough then swatted it. It then tried to run away. He then swatted it again. After a few hits, he picked it up and held it for a while then dropped it . Rinse and repeat a few times and the roach ended up dead laying on its back (still intact). He's learned not to eat them. It took him less than a minute to kill that thing. 12:51 That's scary. I like extra gadgets but with mine, there is an aux deep cycle in the back with a voltage sensitive relay. This has a fused direct connection to the primary battery. I then run over 10 extra circuits (each fused via an addition distribution board). In my setup, I tend to be drawing at least 3 Amps continuously (dash cams / GPS tracker, USB chargers, etc ) up to about 25 Amps (LED spotlights, better cabin light, etc ) all of the auxiliary battery so my primary cranking battery doesn't go flat.
No way Aaron is back!!! Let’s get him on hi low fr!!
I really hope they do bring him back
I could see him helping with the ranger vids
Aaron wtf happen to TH-cam channel
Bro is quoting 150-250 hours on customer's projects think he's doing good for himself
He's not back... he probably went and got a job in a shop that pays better and is more enjoyable because no good mechanic would work full time for donut.
I feel like Aaron would be a good mentor to work for. He's got that "we don't cut corners; cut corners cost lives" mentality and I dig it.
He seemed like the stable "don't worry, it's gonna work out" presence on Hi/Lo too, and that's so helpful to have in the garage
To be fair, he has clearly had a few close calls... He seems like the type that would clearly say "don't be like me."
"Hey Subaru, open the tailgate." "I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave."
12v open 24v close.😬

@@jessehendrix8707 Dude, I'm pretty sure he started with a wrecked hellcat and put the hatch onto the actual hellcat not the other way around
Look up the build on YT
It started as a charger, and is now a widebody AWD 1000hp hellcat wagon..

Awesome to see Aaron back!
Great to see Aaron again. It's been years.
As an auto-electrician myself, I tip my hat to the man the legend Aaron
Aaron is back!!!! if only for right now
Nice to see Aaron’s back. Glad there’s no bad blood
Why would there be?
Aaron is the coolest dude on the planet. Love vids with him, loved him in hyperdrive, would watch his stuff all day
Was looking for this comment! I was excited to see him on Hyperdrive and love that his on a dount video again.

Great video guys much love from Africa specifically Kenya 🤗
So if you have a rodent problem, just spray it here and there to make them stay away
sounds wurthwhile

The Subaru with the rage closing back hatch" 'It's Maximum Overdrive all over again!'.
Please keep Aaron, Sandro and Angelina as permanent hosts on Real Mechanic Stuff !!
Not sure Aaron is on Sandro and Angelina's level.

Major props for the NiN shoutout 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Great to see Aaron back man!!!
maaan i didn't know how much i missed Aaron
Literally just googled "what happened to Aaron from Donut" two days ago. This guy deserves to come back, he put up with way too much BS in hi lo to be left hanging low. Glad to see relations weren't broken, now bring him back cause I'm willing to be he can nurture the WRXs.
PLEASE MORE AARON!!!
About dame time Aaron is back
Dog it’s been years and now your going to sneak Aaron in and not address it
So nice to see Aaron again!
No Sandro but I'll still watch this 😂
Dude is smart and knows his stuff. He even said oil "Galley" instead of "Gallery". I'd like to see more videos with him.
Entire server room in a smaller more difficult place
7:40....pretty normal for canada...block heater pre-heats the coolant...oil pan pre-heater heats the oil...third one is either for a battery heater or an interior heater
pre-heat the coolant?
31 seconds ago is crazy
AARRROOOOOOOONNN!!!! DUDEEE WE MISS YOU! Glad to see you back! hope to see you more involved with the donut team!
How tf did they manage to get Lewis Hamilton on the show
No matter what the reason of your departure from hi low, we're really glad to see you back Aaron.
I was just wondering where he is! Welcome back Aaron!!!
That Subaru is hungry! It's the Venus fly trap of cars!
Always enjoy seeing Aaron with Donut!
AARON! Glad to see theres no bad blood between them after High/Low
I loved Aaron's explanations! You really went into detail, but I could understand as a lay person. When infotainment is at its best.
