    Ultimately Sandy it's your decision on the day. The more experience the better gut instinct you will have. I love these videos top quality. The weather is a fickle mistress and should always be respected. You are correct wind shear can be lethal. Stay safe all the best. Tony

      @@WiltshireMan Wind and weather should never be underestimated. Wind shear claimed Steve Fosset, s scalp and the late great Colin Mcrae both misjudged the conditions and lost control of their machines which cost them their lives. There is certainly some titanium in that back bone of yours buddy. Regards Tony

    Hi Sandy.. another fab video... was chuckling to myself when you mention maverick netting and amazed I’ve missed Kyle O perfect description haha! You’re right and expensive do!
    The first net like yours did seem better and I’ve had a full year until I had a loose brake tail that came loose went through the net and caught the prop although only damaged the net!…
    The replaced net was certainly not as resilient and all ready showing wear! Thankfully parapet has stepped up and offered to repair both net assemblies FOC!!!
    Still I’ve taken a leaf out of your book bought dyneema and learning to construct my own net!
    Enjoy all your tube stuff and when next down your neck of the country must catch up

    Hi Sandy, sorry to hear about the chap you knew and his fatal accident. I find this a very informative video, put over in a quiet, even humble, way......very enjoyable.I am a Yorkshireman living in beautiful Cornwall and am eager to get into paramotoring but cannot find any training facility in the county.I am coming up to 70 years old though still quite fit. Spend much of the time living on my boat. I did fly a weight-shift microlight many years ago.Have already got permission from a local farmer to use his fields.Looking forward to your video using the chase camera.God bless......Colin.

    Good to see you up Sandy. Sad news for sure and we are all beginners. As pilots, we are always learning. Hey, I've been using a different app more often lately called Ventusky. Also, I've used a dab of silicone to keep zippers in place and CA for knots. Good stuff brother!

      Hi Tony. I will check out Ventusky thanks for that. Yes it was sad to lose a fellow pilot but he took the decision to fly when perhaps conditions were not safe. It's always hard to say something like that but we all have to make decisions based upon our understanding. Hi Sandy, just back with Internet and managed to watch this. I'll show you the frame mod to save the netting. The secret is to keep the net off the frame. Brushed titanium is abrasive. Also Zebs paramotor will be heavier, he didn't have a reserve fitted to the harness. Looking forward the para camping trip. Nice video as always.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've noticed abrasion like you mention and have strategically placed some silicon tubing on some parts of the frame. Apart from that all is good. Did you like the "Technical term" for the net problem:)
      Zebs motor was really bare bones. He doesn't fly with a reserve and has taken off the clutch.

    Hi Sandy, great video and wise words regarding weather. I have just been watching a video of the American guy called Andy who had a collapse at low level and survived. It seems it could have been prevented if he had observed the winds aloft. I must admit that I rarely check the winds aloft before I fly, but after seeing his collapse I will be using the windy app to see what the winds are like at 300ft compared to the ground as this is the most vulnerable area of sky we launch and land in.
    “The only real mistake is one from which we learn nothing” - Henry Ford
    Here’s a link to the debrief of the collapse video you mentioned - th-cam.com/video/p04uNWZM5M8/w-d-xo.html
    Looking forward to flying with you soon! Stay safe 👍

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Andy. Two synchronicities here. I read that quote by Henry Ford just a few days ago as I believe mistakes from which we learn are good (With reference to my knife making journey) and also just yesterday I watched the debrief on the collapse. From now on I'm checking and double checking the weather and winds aloft. The good thing with "Windy" is it gives you access to winds at surface, then 330ft which is crucial to our safety.
      The ability to say "No" I'm not going to launch and stick to it is really a wise move if you feel the conditions are too strong or the particular launch site has rotor generators upwind.
      I know one of my fields can be tricky if the winds get above 8 / 10 mph from the west. Other directions super fine.
      And that rotor can be felt a good mile and a half down wind when your below 300ft.
      See you soon Andy and happy smooth safe flying:)
      Sandy

    Tom kubat interviewed the guy your speak about. It was just freak weather that caused it.
    I was speaking to others about apps and alot of people prefere xc weather to windy. When I asked why apparently (I dont know how much truth there is in this) but windy works on an algorithm rather than xc weather which actually have real time weather.

      I also use XC weather but find it seems to give a more benign forecast than either weatherpro and Windy. Actually Windy has three profiles (models) and seems to be the favourite of many experienced fliers. Also it's the only one that shows winds speeds and directions aloft especially at the crucial 330ft level. Maybe I have the down graded XCWeather but my version only shows surface winds.

      PS Windy gets it's weather from real onsite weather stations and updates regularly.

      @@WiltshireMan no I completely agree windy is more user friendly and I find it pretty consistent to what actually is going on.
      I have always used windy. But after it was mentioned to me I now check both. Just to eliminate that doubt. 👍🏻

      @@WiltshireMan 👍🏻that's handy to know. It's always good to talk to others and get more information on things. Advise to others regarding weather is. Know your limits. Dont be afraid to walk away. People may laugh at you make funny comments and call you names but you can always fly again tomorrow. "If in doubt chicken out." That's my saying I use. And I get more respect from others walking away Than I did when I didnt and crashed on take off.

      Hi Tony, It's possible his wing was heavily loaded but I can't be sure so it's best not to speculate. I hope some facts will emerge so that we can all learn from them but one thing is for sure, the weather was not the best and apparently I've heard via another participant in the Icarus that 17 attempts were made to get airborne which says a lot firstly about the weather and secondly about the pilots determination to fly.
      I only have second hand information here so can't really say much.
      Fly safe
