Best Tele I ever had, I got in trade for a rather beat Fender Rhodes... it was black, but obviously spray painted with a humbucker in the neck position. I looked it over and the thing that really struck me was the bridge plate and the number which I believe was under 4000 in the serial number... I took the guitar and partial trade for the electric piano and then started looking around on it and I'm done it and after I pulled the neck off and saw the penciled neck date and neck pocket date which said I believe David or Davis and an early 1952 date on it... Covered in butterscotch looking lacquer over the remnants of a heavily checked butterscotch blonde finish... it was a '52! It all checked out!! I stripped the paint off of the body and found a 50s neck pickup, filled in the route with some epoxy and polyester bubble fill, and hand colored the grain and matched the color so well that even after I refinished and 'relicked' finish nobody could tell. The neck had been to hell and back. But i refinished it and kept all the finger wear and had it refretted with new hardware to match the original... I made a concoction of corrosive liquids, rocks and sand and put the hardware in an old ROCK TUMBLER I had since I was a kid! Lol... after almost a week in the tumbler, I put some heavier wear on them myself and then bent a few and cleaned lubed and replaced on the guitar... built a leaf fire with grass clippings in the back yard and suspended the guitar over the fire for a day... till it was a smoky brown, then rubbed and burnished the finish with Grey India ink... added wear areas at all the right points... more ink and burnishing. Clean, buff, setup and played it for a year in my band. Every gig, someone's eyes popped when they saw it... but that wasn't the crowd I wanted... I took it to the national vintage guitar show at the clarion and trolled up and down the aisles one time and had every dude there wanting to know the story. I said it had been in the family a..while... they all checked it out... everyone said it was all original. I was satisfied... lol. I traded it for a G,&L Broadcaster a few years later, which I fell in love with for the tone. I did give full disclosure, as you realize that was about a fair trade for what I had... but I learned a lot about Tele's... a LOT. and one thing about this one was the DARKNESS, the fullness of that bridge pickup. Brad Paisley is about the only guy I've heard with a tone close to that 52... almost every Tele I've heard since does not do it for me... the voicing on those early blondes was epic and so far away from nasal, it's crazy! They were full, with lots of bottom, more like a P-90 than a Fender single. Because at tge time. Fender was using the same pickups he had been using in his lap Steeles. A very different sound. The only sound that works for me, and not reissued that I know of...

Impossible that guitar has been used. It’s 53 years old. If I used it for a month, it wouldn’t look that clean. It sat in a case for decades. Sounds okay. Hard to tell, because Lemmo is such a good player and can adjust his playing.

Poorly machined neck pockets were not uncommon in the CBS era. It's very, very doubtful any previous neck would have been that wide to fill that large gap. No, just a sloppy cut.

May I ask you why you’re so pressured up by these demos? I mean I kinda get what you’re saying, but I think that if someone’s intentions are serious about buying vintage gear like this, they will do the research themselves at least to an extent that they can’t be scammed out of their money.
