Also, I too am waiting for the eventual Yuji x Gojo x Megumi scene.
@Lahmbard If this is a way of saying that the anime is not doing it... It is worth remembering that chapter 9 turned 2 double pages (4 panels in total), in almost 3 minutes of Gojo killing transfigured humans.
Yea he did say a while back how he didnt want to take breaks and wanted to end a series in a time period. This was back in the Shibuya arc days, but IDK which date he said. So yea he def is working too fast and too hard.
I will say, as someone who draws and went to college for art- sometimes you can lose a LOT of expression and feeling in drawings when you clean it up, or don’t work gestural. A gestural drawing is more focused on motion, and flow of a figure. When you clean it up, pretty up your lines, and give it more form: you can miss out on the raw and chaotic feeling. You lose some imagination of the piece. I like pretty manga when I want to relax and enjoy quieter moments but with JJK I am absorbed in the action- the instinct of the fight- the surprise in every kick and trick. Gege is a master of quickness and feeling. He has to get on the page what punch lands next- making the fight seem organic and primal.
Sounds weird but my heart flutters with adrenaline just thinking of the impact of the sketchy and Intense fighting- it really feels like they’re fighting for their lives. I can only imagine what the fights are like in Gege’s mind as he races to put on paper that he’s envisioning.
I like Gege's new artstyle because i think his new style fits the tone of the story jjk is a dark and disturbing story and his "messy" style fits the tone
Personally I think Akutami’s peak in art was during his transition from his old style to his current style, during the Hidden Inventory and Shibuya Incident. It just had the right amount of messiness where it conveys all the grit that matches the tone of his series without getting occasionally lost in the sauce that his current style sometimes leaves you. It’s also just clean enough where it doesn’t look as generic as it does at the beginning of the series and still soft enough opposed to currently where everyone looks a bit patchy and squared off. It’s weird because I’ve never seen an artists transition period be better than the original or final product before.
I don't know why Jjk early's artstyle really used to remind of Hxh's artstyle. I'm a big fan of rough & gritty art. But the growth of his style has been just amazing to see.
OOO CRAPP youre right! It did look like HxH, how did i miss that! I also like gritty and rough art, kinda gives things more life and individuality in my eyes at least.

i love messy and sketchy looking drawings compared to the "cleaner" artstyle of other anime and manga. it shows how ugly the world of JJK can actually be.

I think Gege just improved and formed his style and you can see how it is drawn with much more ease and flow. At least that’s how I see it.

gege’s new artstyle is very good, the way he draws gojo or megumi or itadori has changed alot but I like how they look, they look 10 times better and I also took alot of inspirations from him
I feel like Gege’s art reflects the story and the state of the characters. The cleaner, more cheerful vibe at the start, vs the scratchy and chaotic vibe later on. It fits. I personally prefer the current artstyle over anything else
I dont know how to describe this artsyle but it reminds me Fujimotos style (cretaor of chainsaw man) with the way the hair has slightly messy scribbles It's really evident in the hands as well. Maybe I'm just reading too deep into this but it really makes the art stand out compared to other manga. Kinda like how togashi draw hands with slightly pointed ends or how he draw the folds in clothing for the characters.
I think my favorite iteration of geges artstyle is midpoint of shibuya to the early culling games. Also with the new art style it can look unfinished or to rough at times but when it’s good it’s good
Agreed, and I think he did a really good job of not having same face syndrome while still making everyone in the CG look really good. It was really funny seeing him try to draw Gojo for the first couple weeks after being 4 years out of practice tho lol
God, I love Akutami-San’s artwork so much. Old or new style, it’s clear they have a gift for this medium. Paneling, linework, shading, double page spreads, they’re all incredible. It all works and it’s all gorgeous. I love it to death.
I will say as an artist i've always been a fan of his artwork whether it be 2018 or 2023. The thing about his 2018 artwork is that its hard to mimic though, and at least for me, and I think that's because its harder to make perspective and dynamic figures for your drawings when you always draw with sharp lines instead of using curves every now and then. What I picked up from watching him is that he still has his old art style but hes made it more versatile with curves and dynamic poses for the characters fights and overall just any panel. So now they no longer look stiff or too static
Thanks a lot! I try to make these vids as entertaining and informative as possible and im glad its paying off! I have one more as of now in the works, should be out in the next few days. Some new stuff is coming soon too.
i think the art is fine now, my biggest complaint is that it can be too cluttered at some points, although i definitely think i prefer this new one to the one at the start of the series. although i definitely think it peaked during the hidden inventory / early shibuya . every single page looked amazing, those thick ink lines do something to me man
Honestly, the art is less of my concern as long as the story delivers which jjk is so good at. Also, panelling is really good. Even if it's non-stop action sequence, it's easy to follow.
The linework and sketchiness of the art is was heavily inspired by HxH art. Gege himself stated that hes inspired by Togashi. You could see it even in the lines with the dots on their ends :D and random lines through clothes. I am talking about the more sketchy and new school Yoshihiro TOGASHI.
0:13 me when I notice the art style and no one talks about it💀 BTW I also noticed some changes although I am a newbie in jjk 4:55 nobara became more of an emo girl💀
i think his artwork peaked during the hidden inventory arc but i also like the beginning of the series artwork cuz it give me a combination of hxh and bleach like if it’s smooth while the present arc artwork it’s messy but the facial expressions and emotions are better
I can tell where people are coming from with the same face syndrome thing, especially now in the Manga with sukuna yuji and sukuna fushigiruo, but at the same time the way gege draws faces now is definitely my favorite part about this new art style. It really shines through in characters like yuta, kashimo, hakari, and ofc sukuna’s new forms
I really love Gege's artstyle, but sometimes I couldn't understand some of his arts, like, I needed too stares and look at some certain panels for a minute to understand what's he drew. Because it looks so messy I couldn't understand. But still love it.
Personally I like his new style, it shows the darkness of the SHIBUYA arc, it’s well done but some panels are a little weird, but overall it looks really good.
I like pretty much all the changes .... except for the character designs. They look alien reptilian now, especially Gojo. In fight scenes you could mistake the almost fish-eyed lens effect on the faces as just being characters in motion, but the odd distortion effect is still in place when they're just standing still.
the early art style kinda reminds me of shojo or doujinshi... both styles definitely have their charms but I think the latest (although bombards my eyes at times) is distinct and has a certain appeal that I am drawn to. i feel like gege is more comfortable now in a way
There are loads of dissatisfaction about Gege's new art style... Personally I find that amazing and so pleasing to read. It is simplified and sure, some pages look weird since Gege hasn't drawn certain characters since a long time + loads of time pressure. Still, I offer every ounce of appreciation...
I feel like his art style really shows during certain panels he want to show emphasis on or “big moments”. Usually it’s at a balance or could look a tad bit messy(by that I mean worst than s1 in detail as well as facial structure) but it can compete with some other popular manga’s art styles when he do those impactful scenes since gege really puts a lot of effort into them which is extremely noticeable when compared to panels within the same chapter as the highly detailed panel.
Greg has been a huge influence in my own art progression, I am trying very hard to develope my own unique style but when I sketch it resembles his a lot👁
if he doesn’t rush so much then his new art style would arguably feel a lot more flowy and smooth when it comes to fights compared to his old art style which looks great but a little stiff
Gege’s new line work can help the fluidity of abstract and chaotic panels, but it offend impacts the clarity and readability of his work as well. Like to the point where some scenes don’t make sense, and this is coming from someone who has read manga for decades. That said, I think this was a great workaround to his rushed schedule, but it is definitely a double edged sword
dawg imma be your friend here and tell you this, when talking about art, don't move the images around too fast like you did at 0:55. it makes it harder to get a clear picture
That kind of video would be so cool to see for D.Gray-man, the artstyle evolved so much for this manga like I’ve never seen for any other one. Katsura Hoshino artstyle nowadays is mesmerizing and beautiful but I’ve seen people regret the more gothic style of her early chapters too
Kinda wished you explored more about how gege actions scenes became more dynamics because of his looser, shorter line work and how while it is resemblant of early bleach, as transitioned into more of togashi style of drawing, but becomes gege’s own style by the way he draws inspiration from films and other movies, good video tho
I find that a lot of the new artwork in the manga has made some of the mouths of the characters really wide & big like a puppet's mouth 😅 Gojo's mouth is a good example.
“Look at his face 30 chapters later!” *shows an image nearly 130 chapters later* “Now let’s look at one from nearly 100 chapters later!” *shows an image from chapter 160 or so* Nice
I like both about equally as much. I do slightly prefer the way he drew the faces earlier, but thats a small nitpick. I don't think I've seen people mention the background art, so good on you for mentioning it. while not the flashiest aspect of a manga, bad bg art really sticks out
After the 1st season i feel like he upped the notch in the fights, he tried to make them more anime-like. I think that's specally true in the Maki fight where things were turning into cubes and such
Now that i think about it, the backgrounds are probably the reason why the characters sometimes look unfinished(reminder that these are weekly chapters)
Gege's latest art reminds me a lot of Togashi's in his most recent Chapters of HxH, which I really like because both of them are great at drawing fight scenes with real speed, power and weight to them.
his current artstyle is cleaner but i like hidden inventory and shibuya art more, its sketchy, rough and mess, more like dirty tbh....but in a good way, love it! and gege changed his pen from chapter 147, guess that also make a big difference of his lineart.
most of the time when you referred to cross-hatching, it was just hatching. it's only cross-hatching if lines of different directions cross over each other.
while gege's writing has only gotten more questionable. JJK's art only scales upwards. Just like Claymore. Mid art at the start but when the story got kinda iffy the art was amazing.
TBH i see a lot of this, some like the old some like the new, TBF, both are good and have different charms to them, but i dont see much love for Shibuya Art style, I kinda like the middle ground more
JJK's art peaked in the Hidden inventory and Shibuya arc , with the right amount of messiness and clearness , round shapes for faces and softer shading . And It has gotten worst after the end of Shibuya , with far more squari-ey shapes for faces ; Gojo chapter 89 looks like a completely different character from the one in chapter 221 (like illustrated on the thumbnail) , way too messy almost unreadable , the shading seems so harsh and rough I feel like it wants to poke my eyes at times (if that makes sense ) .
They use ai/3d models for backgrounds In previous manga like sun-Ken rock they’d take photos & use obvious black & white photos While not everyone uses this method, I feel it’s quite common now. Even used in Dandadan!
good video! i really appreciate this video, btw this is your first video that im seeing! good analysis, the only thing that bothered me, is this moving pages, like, you're saying about gege fine and really clear lines n put a gojo image, i was trying to see this new perspective of the gege's artwork but with the panel moving constantly is a lil bit hard, i needed to pause the video and view the panel because of this moving effect + perspective. but maybe is just me that have this problem, anyway thx for te content!
I'm focused on my comfort characters Geto, Gojo and Kashimo gone. I tried to put that as vague as can be but they got so disrespected it became Go/jo and K/a/s/h/i/m/o
Bro the maki vs zenin and fights in like culling game arc (hakari vs kashimo) have had like sketch drawings as in not complete and minimal detail for what is needed which looks kinda bad imo
His new artstyle reminds me of how much the cast has actually grown and matured and the pressure they are going through everyday whereas his old artstyle is more carefree and kind off cheerful.

Fits the evolution of any mangaka of any series getting more expansive
This explains why gojo looks different every arc gege just improves his style each time
immediately subscribed because of the clean greenscreen
I liked how it was drawn during shibuya and the culling games
Kinda wished you explored more about how gege actions scenes became more dynamics because of his looser, shorter line work and how while it is resemblant of early bleach, as transitioned into more of togashi style of drawing, but becomes gege’s own style by the way he draws inspiration from films and other movies, good video tho
I find that a lot of the new artwork in the manga has made some of the mouths of the characters really wide & big like a puppet's mouth 😅 Gojo's mouth is a good example.
“Look at his face 30 chapters later!”
*shows an image nearly 130 chapters later*
“Now let’s look at one from nearly 100 chapters later!”
*shows an image from chapter 160 or so*
Nice
I thought that was weird too
I like both about equally as much.
The more he draws the more i love his art gege really been cookin
Wrong the older style was much much better
his current artstyle is cleaner but i like hidden inventory and shibuya art more, its sketchy, rough and mess, more like dirty tbh....but in a good way, love it! and gege changed his pen from chapter 147, guess that also make a big difference of his lineart.
most of the time when you referred to cross-hatching, it was just hatching. it's only cross-hatching if lines of different directions cross over each other.
I like his old style way more
while gege's writing has only gotten more questionable. JJK's art only scales upwards.
Just like Claymore. Mid art at the start but when the story got kinda iffy the art was amazing.
sometimes, i cant figure out what's happening, because its just squiggles
You're so underrated bro
i like the older art style
TBH i see a lot of this, some like the old some like the new, TBF, both are good and have different charms to them, but i dont see much love for Shibuya Art style, I kinda like the middle ground more
I like the art now but i miss the old way of paneling and choreography from shibuya. Now its more stiff
fr bro, the manga has had a huge change. I noticed a lot of stuff once i saw the newer chapters. 💀
GOJO WENT MEWING IN THE LITTLE BOX GIGA CHAD 🗣️🔥🔥🔥
he really love hxh and bleach, even down to the art style, the later style is almost like togashi's infamous sketch art episodes
using kira's theme as background music was cool lol
I do perfer Gojo's new style because its wild af,but i cant stop laughing at the frog faces and that ugly cover of 26th volume
It got rougher and messier which is fine but i alsl miss the old art
Gege be like: I don't really care about my art style cuz Mappa will make it 10x better.
Great analysis
I think the anime make some impact to new art style, i can feel it
Trueeeee, and the Shibuya style is PROMINENTTTT esp if you look at the 120% panel and anime adaptation, its pretty much a colored manga panel.
Gojo really doing mewing sessions 🔥💯💀💀
best 2 art style is kenjaku, choso, yuki fight, and the ryu yuta fight
JJK's art peaked in the Hidden inventory and Shibuya arc , with the right amount of messiness and clearness , round shapes for faces and softer shading .
And It has gotten worst after the end of Shibuya , with far more squari-ey shapes for faces ; Gojo chapter 89 looks like a completely different character from the one in chapter 221 (like illustrated on the thumbnail) , way too messy almost unreadable , the shading seems so harsh and rough I feel like it wants to poke my eyes at times (if that makes sense ) .
Das cool and all, but too long.
@@LeoArmada I know , I just couldn't find a way to express how I feel about the evolution of the art in a shorter way .
They use ai/3d models for backgrounds
In previous manga like sun-Ken rock they’d take photos & use obvious black & white photos
While not everyone uses this method, I feel it’s quite common now.
It did look bad, context or not it looked bad, but at least in the vol releases they were fixed.
The art style just matured (and looks better imo)
