Great comparison. And yeah it drives me absolutely insane Forza doesn't let you drop down wheel sizes lol. That's literally one of the first things people actually do in the real world for track prep.
The thoroughness that went into this video is insane! You definitely got my subscribe and I'll be forwarding your channel to others as well. Keep on making amazing videos man!

@@edzzz7555 A sim seat will help you out a lot. If the seat is attached to the wheel and pedal mount, it won't be able to slide. I got a cheap one off of Amazon but it's a little flimsy/wobbly. It could use a few more bars and welds.
I came to laugh at all the people I knew would be here *_cwying_* about FM "n0t BEinG A siM!!!1!1". Stayed for the good production and interesting results. Good show!
This is the kind of comparison that's usually just a pipedream scenario, really enjoyed this! It's the reason why I wish more video games incorporated more civilian cars too outside Gran Turismo, a nice way to blur the lines between reality and fantasy more, and gives a chance to really appreciate how close the details and simulation are being made in a game. All things considered too, despite the large gap in the actual times, I would consider them actually close given all the factors working against you in real life.
100%! My favorite thing in racing games is to drive the slow grocery getters as fast as possible. Forza gets a lot of hate but I think it does a decent job at representing the real cars and tracks while keeping it fun.
For real, I haven't played any racing "sims" past GT5 and FM4 for this exact reason. Being able to only drive supercars and rare classics gets old real fast.
@@unreasonablespeed I thought it was actually very close to reality! Your braking problems cost you at least 2s a lap, plus the fear factor, it was very close indeed
if you're on stock brake fluid, its probably starting to boil creating gas which is leading to your braking problem. try motul rbf660 or endless rf 650. also check your brake hoses and consider upgrading them to steel hoses.
Forza definitely sims a perfect running car running at perfect temps in perfect conditions where we have no fear of death or financial ruin. I can see why all of the above could cause a 5 second difference. Games also give us the capability to drive in a way we can't and won't in real life. I physically can't and won't downshift my car as fast, smooth, or as consistent to brake for a turn and I won't push a car to the limit because in real life my car and the track is different each lap where in Forza it is the same always and we can pull out unreal times through non stop practice due to the unchanging parameters.
All very true. Real driving requires a lot more adaptation as conditions of the track, car, and driver change. I'm hoping the new Forza Motorsport will at least model some of that.
@@unreasonablespeed Yeah, I know what kills me a lot is traffic. I'll be so ready for a turn and nope, a Miata is messing up my momentum or here comes a ZR1 that I need to move out of the way for. It messes up focus. There's no ghost mode irl.
@@eros5513 I enjoy the traffic sometimes, because the passing makes it more exciting. But the worst thing is when you get open track for almost the whole lap and then catch someone on the last turn.
@@unreasonablespeed Traffic is definitely fun. Just can be bad for a laptime, unless you get behind a speedy car who drags you down the strait...and then time to guess where to brake lol. I love the whole experience of a track day. Helping others who forgot a tool and learning from those who have been there forever. Community is one thing Forza 1 simulated better than any other Forza.
Awesome test, looked fun. Fear is the time killer ...( couldn't resist a Dune quote, lol), but you came reasonably close to your Forza time, given the issues. Very informative video.
well made video!! i noticed that in some games cars feel faster than they should be in real life (250 hp feels like 350-400, 500 feels like 650+, etc), and the difference shown here seems spot on!
Thanks! I think it's partly because they don't dyno the actual cars and account for drivetrain loss. AWD cars tend to lose a lot on the way to the wheels.
Just came to see all the Grand Turismo fans saying, "but Forza is just an arcade" because they're mad that Forza Motorsport has better physics and just as much realism as 'The Real Driving Simulator.'
That's pretty close! Sonoma reminds me a lot of Road Atlanta with all the elevation change. If I can drag a car out west one day that track will be on my list.
@@unreasonablespeed I never made a video of it. I know I can get the times a little closer. Definitely leaving a little time on the table. Sonoma is a great track for sure.
Want to point out something about assists turned off. Many treat this as some grandiose accomplishment and honestly it's not. There's cars that you can't turn off or on certain features and there's a static assist system that doesn't replicate the real cars systems. Not every tsc abs stm on every car functions the same. Maybe turn on it off features the car will allow you irl. The rs can have all assists off accept abs (unless there's a way to tune it off or fuse to remove)
It depends on the car. Once you get up to a certain class, TCS is pretty much required. I think the street cars are best enjoyed in the game with no assists and manual shifting though. In real life, ABS is pretty handy on track because you can safely find the limit and the system gives you good feedback. I've never felt the need to bypass it. The RS definitely needs to be at least in track mode though, or the car will use the brakes to stabilize which causes them to overheat quickly.
U cant really remove ABS fuse in modern cars because it will aso remove brake force balancer :E In games like Assetto Corsa u have "factory" assist and ABS/TC can work completly different in different cars because it's physics thing so every car have different algoritm values.
Been playing Forza motorsport since Forza motorsport 6 in 2016 when I got my xbox one. 6 will always have a special place in my heart and I played it alot. Going through it again in 2023 and boy it's still a beautiful and fun game. Also really like the 7th game. Cant wait for the next one at holiday's of 2023 arrive.
Thank you so much for your review! It was absolutely awesome and your reviews was really cool! Rx8 driver here, but have been very interested in the RS.
the physics are decent.... but still simcade. in a vaccum FM7 has great physics.... but it's not in a vaccum. Assetto Corsa, ams2, raceroom, iracing and Rfactor 2 run rings around FM7 and Gran Turismo 7 when it comes to physics, driving experience and track recreation. FM7 would almost get a pass from me except for its utterly garbage force feedback, and this isn't even disputed by those who like the game lmao.
@@blanchimont5587 I would agree if it weren't for the 5 thousand hours and the fact that I learned how to drive stick in FM7. but yes there are much better choices for a sim. even funnier is I am tempted to put down another 5 thousand with my new fancy fanatec gear, I do miss the multiplayer at times and miss hanging out with the boys.
@@mbgmadbull1141 FM7 is great in many regards and offers a driving experience that is of decent quality. But, if you value an engaging and fun driving experience on wheel, I urge you to try at least one of these 3 titles: Assetto Corsa (PC), Rfactor2(PC) Assetto Corsa Competizione (PC, PS5, XBX s|s & s|x) as they have some of the most engaging, communicative and true to life Force Feedback out of any publically available software, especially if you have a CSL DD, as imo you're wasting money on Fanatec gear if all you play is forza; that is to say it's like buying a 488 Pista and never taking it to the track. all the titles I listed go on sale frequently, and the base game doesn't cost much to begin with. If you're on PC, I cannot recommend Asetto Corsa enough as the modding community has made it possible to live out just about every automotive fantasy you've ever had, and you never run out of content.
Up to 100 the acceleration is the same. After that cars in the game just keep accelerating because there's not enough air resistance. That's the main factor that limits top speed in reality. Especially after 100 the air resistance is huge. I think they have simulated aerodynamics in the game, but i think the effect is flat. It doesn't change according to speed. But honestly, i think FM7 is a good game. It's still enjoyable. I bought the Ultimate for 20 euro when it was on sale for the last time and i'm enjoying it.
@@unreasonablespeed Oh it does make a big difference. Especially at high speeds. Open windows work like a parachute. I recommend you do this again some time, but with proper brakes and windows up. I bet result will be much closer.
@@xXturbo86Xx Unfortunately, windows down in front is required at the track for safety. The effect is not as big as you'd think though. Try putting one window down at high speed on the interstate. If the lateral drag differential was that strong, the car would be pulled toward the open side. Drag coeffecients are a square though, so with enough speed this would actually happen. But the speeds we're talking about are still relatively low. I guess I need a faster car 😁
Nice work! But I would suggest when doing a video where comparing lap times you should show the entire laps from one view from each car you are comparing. And then showing the replay side by side from start to finish so we can see the differences would be ideal. Kudos for the effort though and I wish more people would try this, even if Forza isn’t exactly a sim, IMO it’s the best option since we can choose from so many cars and tracks and set things up to try and match RL.
@@unreasonablespeed I think you might be surprised what people will sit through, at least when it comes to a test like this. Could put them at end of video where there’s really no harm
Playing Forza with a wheel on 'simulation' steering setting is harder than anything else I play (RR, AC, ACC RF, GPL, etc.) Not sure if that's due to neglecting wheel users or the algorithms being set for controllers. So label it what you want to, but it's the hardest to drive. And yes, I know, difficulty doesn't equal 'more simmy.' Thanks for sharing your vid of being able to compare the two. Must have been fun and a blessing. Continue to enjoy.
Thanks for the comment! It may depend on the wheel, but I found AC a bit easier to control than FM7. My main issue with my T300RS wheel is that the wheel itself is too small. I think with a 300+mm wheel I could be more precise.
It's amazing seeing you drive the same car in game as in real life and there really is a difference in game compared to in real life. Aside from driver weight and fuel weight. When a flag is brought on in track in real life, it really kills your momentum for the session. You might be on way to hitting your quickest time, but then a yellow flag comes out or someone gets blackflagged and the session is done and the momentum you built just went into the gutter. In game, you see way less of that because if someone hits the wall or someone crashes, the momentum of the race is still being preserved and the race goes on.
great video and great car. as a pilot in real life i find forza 7 driving very simulative, not as iracing or rfactor but simulates very well understeer and oversteer, so it's very interesting to see a comparison, it's a great game (crashes apart).
well according to harkor simbracer(s) FM and GT don't simulate anything they are sim-cade.....like grid, nfs shift....... the biggest problem i have with forza is how it works with a wheel and that insta-slip
@@caliginousmoira8565 comparing fm7 to grid and nfs is like comparing gold to shit, sorry. i really think that opinion is born from kids that never pushed hard lot of cars in real life. forza motorsport 7 biggest problem is the very low steering speed using a controller, but with the right settings (like disable abs, tcs, etc.) gives a realistic feel, still not a simulator but close. while forza horizon 5, for example, gives a more arcade experience.
I really enjoyed the video! From experience, track use dictates big brake venting. Get that heat out of the rotors and calipers! Lots of people forget about this.
Thanks! I haven't been to Limerock but I like driving it in games. STi is pretty much sorted from the factory. Fresh tired, pads, and fluids and you're good to go. Head out there on a rainy day and enjoy being one of the faster cars out there.
Thank you. Really cool comparison and effort! Regarding the brakes, try also changing the brake fluid. If it's old, it can absorb moisture and become too quick to boil. That's why your pedal felt spongey.
I have wanted a Focus RS since the day they came to the U.S. I still want one with all the COBB stage 3 goodies. Even with the Civic Type R coming out I still love a Focus RS. I’m a Honda guy at heart. I already had a S2000 paid off, so I did the next best thing and bought a Ford Ranger ECOBOOST to tow it. I’ll probably do the Ford Racing tuner on it after the warranty expires. I love the 2.3!!
The RS is a fun car and surprisingly practical. I would say the S2000 is probably the better track car though. Simple and lightweight and probably won't overheat like the RS. How is towing with the Ranger?
I don't know why so many people cry about how unrealistic Forza is. Since when games have to mimic reality 1:1 and for what reason? I play mainly Assetto Corsa Competizione but i can't wait for a new Forza. You get a massive game with almost every track and car you can imagine for 50 bucks while iRacing charges you this much for a track car and monthly subscription. I just wish more people would take it seriously online. But if they introduce systems similar to Gran Turismo that will be my go-to Semi-Sim racing game. Why would i care for that extra 2% of realism from iRacing if i can get it for a fraction of the price?
Yeah, iRacing can get expensive very quickly. I never really got into it, because for the money I'd rather just go out and do the real thing. No sim can really compare in terms of excitement. I play games like Forza more to relax, even though they can be anything but relaxing at times.
One thing i like about gran turismo is being able to add ballast and weight bias, games don't seem to take driver weight into account and some weights are claimed by the manufacturer as wet but actually dry etc with gran Turismo you can at least get that closer to actual driver+ wet weights, full options etc.
Yeah I remember that from the old ones. Assetto Corsa also has it. Should be an option on all racing games since race teams frequently have to use ballast to stay in class limits. Also isthatasupra??
i used to have the same problem with my brakes then i started using castrol srf brake fluid which has a higher boilling point than my regular brake fluid
Project Cars 2 would be better. Additionally, what brake fluid were you running? Castrol SRF or bust is the truth. Lastly, peak power is not the only consideration when short shifting. Where will that short shift put you in the rev range and powerband for the next gear in comparison to a redline shift?
the first Project Cars game was a disappointment for me, so I never tried the sequel. I'm running RBF600 fluid. When everything is working as it should, it doesn't boil. Agree on the short shifting. You'll see me shift early as I crest the hill into turn 12, because I can't go full throttle over that crest anyway. But into turn 10, I'll wind it all the way out because another shift just costs me time there.
Super interesting video. Well done! I have often imagined how close to real life top tier racing games are. You definitly need to do this again with gran tourismo 7 which is a bit more realistic in it´s simulation aspects then Forza 7.
It's the carbon fiber "TS style" from Seibon. I had it professionally painted. The vents are functional and there are removable rain guards. seiboncarbon.com/products/ts-style-carbon-fiber-hood-for-2015-2017-ford-focus.html
I'm surprised you didn't do Assetto Corsa. There's a story that on the test drive of the game, a driver crashed in the game at the same spot that he crashed on the same track IRL
SO On Assetto I downloaded a 2017 Focus rs (only one i can find even made it blue) And road Atlanta I used Street tires and H shifter On my moza R9 set up. After About 15 laps (i did not know the track) . I was able to Do a 1::44.8 Im not the Fastest But Im not Slow . I think forza is to simcade for a good compression. IF i was to spend more time I could prob gain maybe 2-3 secs
@@unreasonablespeed ya that's what I figured. Adult content manager but you should download that and it makes it easier to install mods then I just googled Ford focus 2016 RS I came up with the 2017 for assetto mods and I download the track from race department
Developers should be doing this as a must do comparison test. They can get some stock mustangs or Fiestas and study the data. Car magazines have extensive tests with high price cars, maybe they could combine with their test...
interesting to see how well FM7 Copes with real world driving experience. Taking away the problems you had with your car its quite close, considering the fact FM7 is a Simcade.
I think games and tech has got to the point where a lot of the aforementioned points should be getting focused on and implemented. Obviously no amount of simulation can account for all the variables a real car will experience. I wish car games would focus on quality over quantity. I'd rather have 50-100 cars that are nearly identical to the real thing than 500-1000 cars where there's just sobe static handling model.
@@remissiveslave The focus lately seems to be more on improving the graphics and sound than the simulation and gameplay. Plus they have to appease car manufacturers who might lose some sales if their vehicles are simulated more accurately. I haven't seen any hints that the new Forza Motorsport will be any different, sadly.
Nice ! Very interesting experience. Is there a way to have your braking power consistent ? (adding cooling air duct, use race brake fluid with higher boiling point .... ?)
I used 4 large lego mats as my base, I believe they are 128x128 bricks each. Those are connected together with legos, of course. The only "not lego approved" thing I did was drill some holes into select pieces so I could thread screws into them and bolt down the motherboard. I used nylon washers between the mobo and lego mounts to dampen any vibration. Everything else is just pure lego, even the pieces that hold the fans, coolant tank, wireless antenna, etc. I originally just had it sitting on a glass table, but I later put it on a piece of plywood to make it easier to move. I give it the occasional dusting, but for the most part, the constant airflow from the fans keep dust from settling on most of the components. It's been running since 2015 with only videocard and hard drive upgrades.
Very cool ideia!!!! I have a sugestion: now that you have the real car footage, you could limit the in game speed and try to mimmick the breaking points of the real car and see if the times come closer. Maybe ask someone to help you by looking at the speed so you can focus on driving and the breaking. It would be interesting to see if the real and game times aproach each other this way. By the way, you just got a new follower (maybe more, as I'm going to show this to may gearhead friends!).
I thought about adding a restrictor plate in Forza to tune down the car closer to how I felt the real thing performed, but decided just to do a 1:1 test to see what the differences were. I do have all the replays saved plus my real life telemetry and video so I can do more comparisons. Even with the brakes at 100% I don't think I could pull off a 1m38s lap without further modification to the car. Thanks for the sub and shares!
@@unreasonablespeed I don't see this advice a lot, but be sure to turn on "more physically accurate gyro implementation" in ffb tweaks in csp. Makes a world of difference
Cool video, idk you were a TN native. I live in the tri cities area Johnson City exactly. Sadly east tn has Bristol track but that's just thunder valley drag strip.
I'm in Knoxville, so not too far out. Check out my videos on Flatrock Motorsports Park if you haven't seen it. It's out in Rockwood along I-40 and will be opening this year. It's going to be huge.
@Unreasonable Speed hell it definitely sounds great. I've heard about it just haven't gotten a chance to check it out. Yea you about about hour away from me, my brother lives in Knoxville so I'm very familiar. I race my bugeye whenever I can. It's decent making 400whp but really want 600 well anyway good talking with ya maybe catch up with u sometime
Do you need insurance to race on a track day? Will they pay for repairs or is it more like you crash your screwed kind of thing, just written out legally?
Normal insurance typically will not cover you, but it depends on the company. Everyone has to cover their own car regardless of what happens, and you even have to cover any damage you make to the track. If you damage a wall or dump oil on the track, they will charge you for repair and clean up. You can buy track insurance from companies like Hagerty that cover you for the weekend. It's usually a few hundred bucks and covers your car as well as any damage to the track. Other than that, you are most likely paying out of your own pocket. I always tell people "don't race it if you can't replace it."
You probably need to upgrade your brake lines to steal braided brake lines as well because the rubber ones flex and inflate under hard braking maybe try upgrading your suspension to two-way adjustable coilovers that way you can adjust your dampening and rebound to the correct setting you also may need to upgrade your rotors to drilled and slotted rotors for better braking performance
Coilovers and ss brake lines are likely. I usually run a slotted rotor but they were out of stock. I actually don't see any difference between slotted and blank as long as I run good pads though.
Super cool video! Would love to see a comparison to Assetto Corsa or something along those lines. I Love Forza but it's on the Arcade side of Sim Racers.
Man the focus rs is pretty in nitrous blue, i got a fiesta st with a hybrid turbo making about 300hp, definitely considering getting an rs lookalike bumper, spoiler and diffuser and getting the car painted in nitrous blue so it's like a small focus rs
I've always wanted to do this. Unfortunately, I can't get as close as matching my car as I have an ST, but I loved seeing your RS and the comparison! Also, a 5 sec difference from forza time is pretty darn good if you ask me. Especially with your break issues.
It would still be interesting to see how close you could get with your ST. The RS packed on quite a few pounds with the AWD system so the difference is probably less than one would expect.
Lateral grip is almost spot on with the tires I'm running. The Forza version understeers a bit more, and the grip feels a bit choppy, if that makes sense. Forza also doesn't capture the way the AWD system rotates the car while on the throttle mid-corner. This is specific to the RS. But other than those things, it's a fair representation. You feel the heaviness of the car as well as the uncompromising stiffness of the suspension.
I quit playing Forza 7 because I can't steer the car. Whenever I turn my steering wheel I have to wait for my front wheels to turn to match my steering input which is annoying. And the game won't let me counter steer when I lose control or I slide it on purpose, it only lets me have control again when my car has finished sliding. In Assetto Corsa my front wheels always matches my steering input without having to wait, even if I scrub/understeer my front wheels deliberately. Same with counter steering in any oversteer situation, I can catch my car from losing control in Assetto, something I can't do in Forza 7 or any Gran Turismo game.
I haven't had any lag with my wheel. I had an issue for a while where the force feedback would cut out, and updating the drivers fixed it. Might be worth a shot.
It's the standard lever, I just put a factory FD RX-7 shift knob on it. It does make it feel a little less like a truck, but the gate of the Thrustmaster shifter is still way too wide.
How much is the budget to take car like yours for a spin at road Atlanta or any other similar track? Are tires and brakes basically "one race and they are trash"?
Road Atlanta is a little more expensive than some tracks. I would say I spend about $1000-1200 for a weekend. That includes fees ($5-600), multiple tanks of gas for the car and truck, hotel room, food, etc. It can be done cheaper by camping, driving the car instead of trailering, and bringing food from home. Or doing a single day instead of two. But I like to make a mini-vacation out of it. If you factor in consumables like tires, brakes, and fluids, it adds up to a lot more. Tires can vary - my 200TW street tires will last many events. I also have 100TW track tires that I get 2, maybe 3 weekends out of if I'm lucky. I usually get 2 full weekends out of a set of front track pads, with plenty left over for street driving.
@@unreasonablespeed thank you very much for your response! Appreciate the info you provided. Based on that I now realize that I have to earn much more in order to afford this kind of racing. So this year I'll start with autocross then :) Wish you all the grip to be yours on every track :)
@@ArtemLokhovitskiy No problem! Like I said, it can be cheaper... the cheapest event I've done was only $200. But I did autocross and rallycross for years before I could afford to hit the track. It's hard to go back once you do though.
Probably the pro mechanics also told you this, but did you change the brake fluid before the track day? Of course you should use some heavy duty stuff with high boiling point which is very hydrophile, so has to be changed super often (at least before every track day). Another factor could be the brake pipes...
Even if power drops off you should still go to redline. It looks like your car has the light come on at 5900, but goes to 6800rpm. That is a lot of potential power to use and more so torque. It seems like the horsepower and torque drop about 30 units each between 6-6800. The thing is the mechanical advantage of the lower gear still gives more wheel torque even with that 30-40lbft of lost torque. From one gear to the next the lower gear is still giving 10-20% more wheel torque then the higher gear from 6000-6800. It's worth holding to redline. The other benefit is that if you shift and redline the shift places you back into the bulk of the power band and to accelerate harder after the shift. Shifting at 5900 may put you too low in the power.
The redline is 6500 on the RS. That's true for a lot of high revving engines but the RS has such a low, flat torque curve that shifting at 6 doesn't drop you out of the power band. At least not in real life... Forza's interpretation is way different. The shift point also varies depending on what part of the track you're on.
There was a smaller tire width because I bumped it up a size from stock, but 19" is the smallest rim diameter because it is the factory size. I run 18" wheels on track.
Awesome video! What brake fluid are you running? I assume it's something high-temp since you said you have track experience, and in the video it looked like maybe some motul? Just curious :)
I think it was a Fiat Bertone? Could be wrong. The prototype car was likely a Radical. Definitely one of the fastest things out there. It kept sneaking up on me.
Racing Sims are not even close but they are fun and give you a rough idea of what to expect on track IRL. Also biggest factor is there's no way GT/Forza can simulate your azenis rt516k+ tires it's just impossible to compare with all the physics that are involved with tires ie tire temp, pressure, sidewall, etc.
That's a good point on the tires. The development team will typically work with one manufacturer to get tire data, and tires have changed a lot in 6 years. In particular I think this segment of "trackable street tires" is closing the gap more and more with traditional R compounds.
When you will try with Assetto, don't forget to greatly reduce grip level of the track to match a real track day session. You can even in Assetto with the Content Manager create a virtual trackday session with IA to simulate the real thing Interesting take anyway! Go for more man ! I should have done that when I was on the Nordschleife, but the Honda CRZ is so rare in racing games, and mods are bad !
how about the brakes on the focus? what actually wrong with it? i mean, if it's leaking somewhere along the hose, that brake would've gone already. but since the caliper you've shown is pretty wet, is it because of seals? or just needed a braided brake hose upgrade?
The first issue was the leak around the bleed screw because it just wasn't tight enough. Other than that, I don't know yet. I've got a broken lug now as well, which requires a new hub and bearing (great design, Ford). So I'm waiting on parts to dig into it.

good luck !
@@KC16A6 yes. the simple machines are usually the most fun to drive.
@@unreasonablespeed and that response... mmmmm delicious
Great comparison. And yeah it drives me absolutely insane Forza doesn't let you drop down wheel sizes lol. That's literally one of the first things people actually do in the real world for track prep.
Yes, I have two sets of 18s that I swap between and my stock 19s that I paid extra for are mostly collecting dust.
The thoroughness that went into this video is insane! You definitely got my subscribe and I'll be forwarding your channel to others as well. Keep on making amazing videos man!
Thanks, really appreciated! I'll definitely do more of these in the future.
@@unreasonablespeed this guy said it perfect i want to do this with my SI now the closest track to me is the New Hampshire motor speed way i just got a thrustmaster wheel a few months ago so ill probably just wait for forza 2023 to come out instead of buying forza 7, i been playing iracing tho i love NASCAR
Good show!
Yep, got plenty of those! Glad it did not disappoint 😆
@@unreasonablespeed Absolutely!
I want more econoboxes. Super fun to drive in Gran Turismo.
Running RBF600. SS lines are on my upgrade list but the soft lines are still in good shape for now
Forza definitely sims a perfect running car running at perfect temps in perfect conditions where we have no fear of death or financial ruin.
Thanks! Brake issues aside, it was a fun weekend.
It reminded me of a song from Need For Speed Underground (Fear is a mind killer)
well made video!! i noticed that in some games cars feel faster than they should be in real life (250 hp feels like 350-400, 500 feels like 650+, etc), and the difference shown here seems spot on!
Thanks! I think it's partly because they don't dyno the actual cars and account for drivetrain loss. AWD cars tend to lose a lot on the way to the wheels.
Oh man i loved you vid. Congrats brow. Awesome.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Just came to see all the Grand Turismo fans saying, "but Forza is just an arcade" because they're mad that Forza Motorsport has better physics and just as much realism as 'The Real Driving Simulator.'
Judging by the comments, no GT fans have seen this yet 🙃
Cool to see someone else do this. I have a c5z06 and did this at Sonoma raceway. Managed a low 1:47 in game and 1:51.3 in car
U cant really remove ABS fuse in modern cars because it will aso remove brake force balancer :E
In games like Assetto Corsa u have "factory" assist and ABS/TC can work completly different in different cars because it's physics thing so every car have different algoritm values.
I like 7, but enjoyed the career mode of the earlier games much more. I hope the next game has a bigger career mode with more customization.
Thank you so much for your review! It was absolutely awesome and your reviews was really cool! Rx8 driver here, but have been very interested in the RS.
I’m blown away it was even that close. They really got the physics down Pat
I really want to get the brakes sorted out and go back, I think it could be closer!
Physics are really bad
the physics are decent.... but still simcade. in a vaccum FM7 has great physics.... but it's not in a vaccum.
I bought the Ultimate for 20 euro when it was on sale for the last time and i'm enjoying it.
yeah Forza is definitely not simulating drag like it should. I did have my windows down but it wouldn't make that much of a difference.
Thanks! Most people probably won't sit through it, but I'll post something like that up when I get the chance.
And yes, I know, difficulty doesn't equal 'more simmy.'
Thanks for sharing your vid of being able to compare the two.
This was an excellent video. Nice presentation style and fun to watch.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it, I hope to do more of these.
That guy in the blue and white Mustang is at every event they have at Road Atlanta. He's there everytime I am.
He's pretty quick, and I guess that's why!

Thank you so much!
Nice video! I'm curious about some others sims like Assetto Corsa or iRacing what the time gap would be.
Thanks! I don't think I can compare iRacing because it doesn't have any of my real life cars, but I may be able to do Assetto Corsa with mods.
@@unreasonablespeed i Second that do assetto ! i might have to have a go myself now lol
@@captaincoszie3537 Do it! It's a blast.
Yep, I think 2 or 3 sessions ended up being black flagged that weekend. What makes Road Atlanta fun also leads to a lot of incidents.
Dude this series is an amazing and completely unique idea. Bravo 💯
great video and great car. as a pilot in real life i find forza 7 driving very simulative, not as iracing or rfactor but simulates very well understeer and oversteer, so it's very interesting to see a comparison, it's a great game (crashes apart).
Thanks! I agree, for a game, it's pretty good. Except for career mode 😆
well according to harkor simbracer(s) FM and GT don't simulate anything they are sim-cade.....like grid, nfs shift.......
the biggest problem i have with forza is how it works with a wheel and that insta-slip
@@caliginousmoira8565 Oooh, harsh words for FM and GT comparing them to Grid and NFS 😆What do you mean by "insta-slip?"
Great Video!

Great video! Probably one of the best videos from such a small youtube channel. but my guess is it wont be small for long.
Who knows, was not expecting this to blow up like it has😆
Thank you. Really cool comparison and effort! Regarding the brakes, try also changing the brake fluid. If it's old, it can absorb moisture and become too quick to boil. That's why your pedal felt spongey.
I did swap it before and during the event, but it turned out to be a leak in the system.
also barber motorsports park in birmingham has open weekends every so often. its a great track beautiful facilities
I've done a few events at Barber, beautiful track indeed.
Just wanna say your focus rs is GORGEOUS
Nice driving mate!
Great video! We all try to make our own cars on video games
Always! Even all my past cars if they are in the game.
3:54 that wasn't the only Focus you forgot! Pssst... _Autofocus_
All jokes aside, quite an interesting video!
Yeeeeaah, downside to using my camera for that instead of my phone was I forgot to turn on autofocus 😅 No one wants to see my face anyway.
I drive a 2017 Fiesta ST, so this was a lot of fun to watch. THANKS! :~))
much love for the mighty little FiST

Wow, great video, great guy and driving skills!

Greetings! That's on my bucket list, but probably not any time soon and in a rental car for sure!

You totally look like a focus rs guy. I work at ford dealer I know your type lol. Great video!
Ha! That's pretty funny... yeah, I was that guy in 2016 who probably called your dealership asking if you were charging mark-up 🤑
i used to have the same problem with my brakes then i started using castrol srf brake fluid which has a higher boilling point than my regular brake fluid
I use Motul RBF600 which is also made for racing, and completely flushed it between the two days. But the leak is what caused the air to get in.
I haven't played GT7 (No PS5) but always found the GT games to be about the same as the corresponding Forza titles.
Hey do you mind posting where you got that vented hood? I think its way too hot under the RS hood, looking for vents. Yours looks clean

Great video bro, loved your car
I'm surprised you didn't do Assetto Corsa. There's a story that on the test drive of the game, a driver crashed in the game at the same spot that he crashed on the same track IRL
I believe it. I often crash at turn 12 on Forza, so I'm extra slow through that turn in real life!
i wish i still had my forza 7.. lost it after they took it down

@@EmanHowells Let 'em post, I enjoy the debate 😆 Maybe I'll do a video on it.
Developers should be doing this as a must do comparison test. They can get some stock mustangs or Fiestas and study the data. Car magazines have extensive tests with high price cars, maybe they could combine with their test...
I would sign up for that job in a heartbeat even if they paid me in change 😄
That's probably what iRacing does and why everything in that sim costs an arm and a leg
This video is such high quality production!
Thank you!
interesting to see how well FM7 Copes with real world driving experience. Taking away the problems you had with your car its quite close, considering the fact FM7 is a Simcade.
If FM7 simulated air resistance after 100 properly, the result would have been even closer.
Headwind could be a limiting factor also. Even the grip or camber angle the tires allow.
I felt like the handling was pretty close. I still have the factory alignment on my car so I didn't make any changes in the game to the suspension.
And yeah, drag could be a factor. Track regs require windows down, which adds quite a bit of drag above 100mph. I forgot about that.
@Unreasonable Speed They mentioned ohysics being better ,but haven't shown it off yet
Awesome video!!
Thanks!
Nice ! Very interesting experience.
Is there a way to have your braking power consistent ?
(adding cooling air duct, use race brake fluid with higher boiling point .... ?)
It has some ducting to the front and I run RBF600 fluid. But a leak will bring any brake system to its knees.
How did you make that Lego PC case/mount. Do you have to keep cleaning it?
Road Atlanta is one of my favorite road tracks.
Aw, man, now somebody should do this with Assetto!

@@truthseeker7084 Cool, hope to see you out at Flatrock or some of the other tracks around the Southeast!
Great content man! I'm hoping to do the same with my cars at Interlagos couse :)
Awesome, can't wait to see it!
"Why? Because it's the closest track to me" lol
Haha yep, still a 4 hour drive too!
to be clear, forza is a simcade not a full simulator, if you're able to id love to see you try this with iracing or acc.
Will do!
Super cool video! Would love to see a comparison to Assetto Corsa or something along those lines. I Love Forza but it's on the Arcade side of Sim Racers.
I think we need a "realism rating system" for all games, especially sims.
Man the focus rs is pretty in nitrous blue, i got a fiesta st with a hybrid turbo making about 300hp, definitely considering getting an rs lookalike bumper, spoiler and diffuser and getting the car painted in nitrous blue so it's like a small focus rs
Thanks! Shame we didn't get a Fiesta RS, but aside from AWD you can build your own. The FiST is a fun little car.
The RS packed on quite a few pounds with the AWD system so the difference is probably less than one would expect.
great video thanks for sharing!
How did the “feel” of the car compare between IRL and FM7?
Might be worth a shot.
where did you get the stick from? i have that shifter but would like it to be shorter
It's the standard lever, I just put a factory FD RX-7 shift knob on it. It does make it feel a little less like a truck, but the gate of the Thrustmaster shifter is still way too wide.
@@unreasonablespeed thanks for that
How much is the budget to take car like yours for a spin at road Atlanta or any other similar track?
So this year I'll start with autocross then :)
Wish you all the grip to be yours on every track :)
@@ArtemLokhovitskiy No problem! Like I said, it can be cheaper... the cheapest event I've done was only $200. But I did autocross and rallycross for years before I could afford to hit the track. It's hard to go back once you do though.
@@unreasonablespeed totally understandable :) circuit racing after autocross is like an IMAX theater after 15" screen with built in speakers.
Probably the pro mechanics also told you this, but did you change the brake fluid before the track day? Of course you should use some heavy duty stuff with high boiling point which is very hydrophile, so has to be changed super often (at least before every track day). Another factor could be the brake pipes...
Yeah I went through about $100 of RBF that weekend. I change it before every event.
Btw .. reference to Top Gear time reveal is awesome :)
That looked like a lot of fun, it was a huge shame your brakes weren't giving you their best though.
Yep, but there is always next time.
Pro tip: tell your wife you’re either getting a sim rig or a track car.
Suddenly that Fanatec setup doesn’t seem so ridiculous.
Or get both and a new spouse! 😆
they don’t let you go smaller you say yet there was still a smaller option under the one you checked?
There was a smaller tire width because I bumped it up a size from stock, but 19" is the smallest rim diameter because it is the factory size. I run 18" wheels on track.
Awesome video! What brake fluid are you running? I assume it's something high-temp since you said you have track experience, and in the video it looked like maybe some motul? Just curious :)
Yep, RBF600. The fluid didn't boil, just leaked out a bit 😪
The issue with your brakes is most likely the fluid itself. It needs to be changed out to a racing spec fluid with a higher boiling point.
It was a leak. I run RBF600, and the fluid was fresh.
brake issues aside, you did well. Not a well know thing but the Michelin mans name is Bibendum his dog is Bubbles but should be Bibarkum huhu
What’s your forza wheel settings? The wheel support in that game drives me nuts
I didn't change anything. I used to always have issues with FFB but they finally patched it.
Awesome. One question was that a Porsche 914 that crashed? Also what was that red Lmp-like car that was in front of you?
You can even in Assetto with the Content Manager create a virtual trackday session with IA to simulate the real thing
Interesting take anyway! Go for more man ! I should have done that when I was on the Nordschleife, but the Honda CRZ is so rare in racing games, and mods are bad !
Thanks for the tip, I love that AC has that option.
how about the brakes on the focus? what actually wrong with it? i mean, if it's leaking somewhere along the hose, that brake would've gone already. but since the caliper you've shown is pretty wet, is it because of seals? or just needed a braided brake hose upgrade?
The first issue was the leak around the bleed screw because it just wasn't tight enough. Other than that, I don't know yet. I've got a broken lug now as well, which requires a new hub and bearing (great design, Ford). So I'm waiting on parts to dig into it.
