Orzic Tentacles - Arborescence
I like the obscure bands of the 60's and 70's that put out records but never became famous the same with bands of the 80's and beyond of different genres thanks Pete. 🎵🎶🎼🎸🎸🎤🎹🥁🎼🎶🎵
My day 13 pick is my first for the month as I haven't heard enough 1994 albums to do all 31 days! It's No Quarter by Jimmy Page & Robert Plant. This is a mostly live album, featuring new versions of Led Zeppelin classics along with a few new songs. The album features Moroccan and Egyptian musicians who give a new slant to various Zep songs.
13) Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Sleeps With Angels Until I gave it a spin for the purpose of writing this, I had forgotten just how good this album is. The mood is dreamlike, almost somber, but there is a beauty to this record that only occasionally turns up in Neil Young's diverse body of work. From the lovely "Train Of Love" to the grungy, in-your-face "Piece Of Crap", this is a great example of Neil at his most anarchic and inspired best. Crazy Horse is equally comfortable playing heavy-footed stomp and romantic beauty. "Safeway Cart" and "A Dream That Can Last" are breathtaking. "Change Your Mind" is completely epic - I hate when the song ends, after 14 minutes it seems way too short. "Sleeps With Angels" was the final track written for the album, the strange and beautiful song was inspired by Kurt Cobain's death. Sleeps With Angels is a really unusual album from Neil Young's second peak period (the '90s). The record has such a nice hypnotic flow to it that you can get lost in it. Sleeps With Angels is extremely underrated, and ranks as one of my favorite discs by Neil Young & Crazy Horse. 1) Danzig - Danzig 4 2) Johnny Cash - American Recordings 3) Various Artists - If I Were A Carpenter 4) The Cranberries - No Need To Argue 5) Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - Pure And Simple 6) The Obsessed - The Church Within 7) Megadeth - Youthanasia 8) Dangerous Toys - Pissed 9) Threshold - Psychedelicatessen 10) Marillion - Brave 11) Therapy? - Troublegum 12) Jeff Buckley - Grace 13) Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Sleeps With Angels

Morning, Pete. Satyricon, The Shadowthrone. Another great black metal album from my favorite black metal band. Satyricon was always very diverse. You can almost hum along to Vikingland while you can break your neck listening to Dominions Of Satyricon. The last song is a keyboard only led song I En Svart Kiste translated to In A Black Coffin and it sure sounds like a hymn to the dead. All the songs are 5-9 minutes and it's a classic. 20. Yank Crime - Drive Like Jehu 21. The Last Temptation - Alice Cooper 22. Welcome To Sky Valley - Kyuss 23. In The Nightside Eclipse - Emperor 24. Tales From The Thousand Lakes - Amorphis 25. American Recordings - Johnny Cash 26. The Church Within - The Obsessed 27. De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas - Mayhem 28. Electric Wizard - Electric Wizard 29. Transilvanian Hunger - Darkthrone 30. The Space Age Playboys - Warrior Soul 31. Still Climbing - Cinderella
Martin. Totally forgot about this one yesterday! Awesome pick! Easily for me one of the best black metal bands I know!Enjoy your day and take care friend!
Day 13. Red Sea - Blood This one came out as a breath of fresh air of classic hard rock. The music is influenced by the greets of early 70's hard rock with all the groove that came with the genre. Vocalist Robin "Kyle" Basauri comes off like a cross between Robert Plant and Mickey Thomas and Chris Howell provides some great riffs and tasty leads. Well worth the listen for those that like their rock hard and heavy. 1. Johnny Cash - American Recordings 2. Travis Tritt - Ten Feet Tall and Bulletproof 3. Bride - Scarecrow Messiah 4. The Black Crowes - Amorica 5. King's X - Dogman 6. Freddie Hubbard-Monk,Miles,Trane & Cannon 7. Ramones - Acid Eaters 8. Aquarium Rescue Unit - In a Perfect World 9. Toby Keith - Boomtown 10. Barren Cross - Rattle Your Cage 11. Deliverance - River Disturbance 12. Mortal - Wake 13. Red Sea - Blood
Today's pick is Mercyful Fate-Time. Following the sensational In The Shadows, Time delivers the goods. Another very solid Mercyful Fate record by The King and Co.
My pick for day 13 is Portishead - Dummy. My music tastes are all over the place, and the Trip Hop pioneers are a great example. This is not like anything else I was into at the time, but it remains a favorite.
My favorite 1994 album for day 13 is "Voodoo Lounge" by the Rolling Stones. Some of the best songs on this one are "Love Is Strong", "You Got Me Rocking", "Sparks Will Fly", "Out of Tears" and "Blinded by Rainbows". Day 1-From the Cradle-Eric Clapton Day 2-Deliverance-Corrosion of Conformity Day 3-After the Storm-Crosby, Stills & Nash Day 4-Korn-Korn Day 5-Sleeps with Angels-Neil Young Day 6-Youthanasia-Megadeth Day 7-20th Century Blues-Robin Trower Day 8-Hungry for Stink-L7 Day 9-Endangered Species-Lynyrd Skynyrd Day 10-Who I Am-Alan Jackson Day 11-No Quarter-Jimmy Page and Robert Plant Day 12-Punk in Drublic-NOFX Day 13-Voodoo Lounge-Rolling Stones

Good morning Melanie -- don't know this one. I only know his radio hits. I don't think I've ever listened to any of his LP's. I'll give this one a try. Hope you have a terrific Wednesday morning.
Cool choice Melanie. This album was on my original list to check out but it is one I didn’t get to. I will definitely have to listen to it sometime soon.
Just got time today to just nominate my pick, but it's been very well written about by other SOT viewers who have picked it previously, Superunknown by Soundgarden
@@iainhead9898 Hi Iain. I'm not the greatest grunge fan normally but I always liked Soundgarden. Mainly due to the late Chris Cornell, who I always thought of as the Paul Rodgers of grunge.
Good pick Jerry. I’m not a fan of grunge but Chris Cornell was unquestionably one of the greatest rock singers ever. That’s a valid comparison with Paul Rodgers, although he always reminded me of David Coverdale.
Voodoo Lounge is a studio album by the English rock band the Rolling Stones, released on 11 July 1994. As their first new release under their new alliance with Virgin Records, it ended a five-year gap since their last studio album, Steel Wheels in 1989. Voodoo Lounge is also the band's first album without their original bassist Bill Wyman; he left the band in early 1991, though the Stones did not announce the departure until 1993. In 2009, the album was remastered and reissued by Universal Music. This album was released as a double vinyl and as a single CD and cassette. After the departure of Wyman, the Stones chose not to officially replace him as a band member and continue as a four-piece with Mick Jagger (vocals), Charlie Watts (drums), Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood (both guitars). Wyman was unofficially replaced by Darryl Jones, who would perform with the Stones in the studio and on tour as a contracted player. Keyboards were provided by Chuck Leavell. Jones and Leavell, though not band members, would remain collaborators with the group from that point on. Don Was was brought in to produce the album alongside Jagger and Richards. Voodoo Lounge sold well, reaching either gold or platinum status in several countries, but failed to produce a US top 40 hit. The song "Love Is Strong" did peak at No. 14 in the UK, and "You Got Me Rocking" (which reached No. 23 in the same country) became a staple on most subsequent Stones tours. The album received some good reviews and won the inaugural Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 1995. Sections of the Keith Richards song "Thru and Thru" from Voodoo Lounge are woven throughout the HBO television series The Sopranos' second-season finale "Funhouse" (episode no. 26 overall), and plays in its entirety during the episode's closing sequence and end credits. Released in July 1994, Voodoo Lounge received generally positive reviews and debuted at No. 1 in the UK (their first chart-topper there since 1980's Emotional Rescue) and No. 2 in the US (behind the soundtrack to The Lion King) where it went double platinum. David Cavanagh of Q Magazine wrote that "musically, these 15 songs represent the Stones at their all-time least newsworthy," adding that "Voodoo Lounge is no classic, but nor is it the resounding hound it could have been." Though he was disappointed in the inconsistency of the album's second half, he called the trio of opening rockers "exuberant and on the warm side" despite their lyric shortcomings and hailed the next four songs as an extremely good stretch with "Out of Tears" in particular showing "tantalizing glimmers of genius." Writing for Vox magazine in August 1994, Steven Dalton thought that the album's strongest tracks were filled with "echoes of the band's halcyon days", most notably 1972's Exile on Main Street and 1978's Some Girls. He went on to surmise that Voodoo Lounge "reminds us why we liked the Stones in the first place," and singled out "New Faces", "Out of Tears" and "Blinded by Rainbows" as the album's highlights, despite also stating that the record contained "too many sketchy, arsing-around-in-the-studio jobs" to be considered one of the group's overall best albums. Jon Pareles of The New York Times found Voodoo Lounge to be disappointing, arguing that the album "rings hollow, as if it were made not to shake things up but simply to fuel the machine." He harshly criticized the songwriting, arguing that "for much of the album, Jagger and Richards seem determined to write the most generic love songs possible...Flip over the sentimentality, and the Stones offer some of their least convincing leers." Robert Christgau didn't believe the album warranted a full review, consigning it to his column's list of "honorable mentions" and commenting only that the Stones had become the "world's greatest roots-rock band." Tom Hull similarly listed it as an "honorable mention," conceding that the album "feels like they're just going through the motions." Alexis Petridis of The Guardian would later rank Voodoo Lounge as one of their weakest albums, writing that "this isn't a bad album, exactly, but it sounds as if hard work was involved, the product of craft rather inspiration: tough coming from a band that, at their best, made it all seem effortless." Petridis also felt that the 62-minute album was much too long, joking that "it goes on for about six weeks." David Marchese of New York expressed a similar criticism, writing that Voodoo Lounge "would’ve killed at 45 minutes" while pointing out the weakest songs as he reviewed the album track-by-track. In early 1995, while the Voodoo Lounge Tour was still underway until August, Voodoo Lounge won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. In 2009, Voodoo Lounge was remastered and reissued by Universal Music.
Great article. I'm surprised Out of Tears wasn't a top 40 hit in the States. I remember it on the local radio back in that time. It's a fabulous track, i.m.o. I recently re-listened to this one, and I'm generally with others' reviews on this one. The rockers that open are great, but I easily get lost in the sea of Americana stuff the rest of the way. (except for Out of Tears which is great).
@@guarddl9522 A lot of Stones fans say the promo version with a shorter track listing has a better running order and I tend to agree but the strongest tracks are great. Steel Wheels and Voodoo Lounge also both had some great single b-sides.
In random order except for the top 10: 19. Time by Mercyful Fate 20. Groove Family Psycho by Infectious Grooves 21. Ready to Die by The Notorious B.I.G. 22. If You Look Far Enough by Arild Andersen 23. MoodSwing by The Joshua Redman Quartet 24. Critical Mass by Matthew Shipp 25. Illmatic by Nas 26. Superunknown by Soundgarden 27. Blues Traveler - Four
# 19 Tori Amos - Under the Pink With her debut album "Little Earthquakes" Tori Amos brought a completely new sound to pop and rock music, which also touched me deeply at the time, both lyrically and musically. Her sophomore album "Under the Pink" was always overshadowed by "Little Earthquakes", but for me it is Tori's best record, and by no means just because of "Cornflake Girl", even though it quite rightly stormed the charts worldwide. But it's hidden gems like "God", "Bells for Her" or "Past the Mission" that make this record so valuable. # 20 Hole - Live Through This # 21 Portishead - Dummy # 22 Tony MacAlpine - Premonition # 23 Blumfeld - L’Etat et moi # 24 Megadeth - Youthanasia # 25 Cranberries - No Need to Argue # 26 NAS - Illimatic # 27 Pantera - Far Beyond Driven # 28 Marillion - Brave # 29 ZZ Top - Antenna # 30 Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain # 31 Robert Hood - Minimal Nation
Hello Pete and everyone. Today’s album choice is my second from the ‘big 4’ of Britpop: Suede - Dog Man Star Up until a year or so ago, I didn’t like this band’s music as much as the other 3 bands. However, I have recently grown to appreciate how their sweeping vocals and atmospheric instrumentation created a sound that is totally different to anyone else that is bracketed together under the label of Britpop. In my view, the standout songs on this album are We Are The Pigs, The Wild Ones, The 2 Of Us, The Asphalt World and Still Life. Nos. 11-30 (not ranked) Bonnie Raitt - Longing In Their Hearts Jimmy Page & Robert Plant - No Quarter ZZ Top - Antenna David Lee Roth - Your Filthy Little Mouth Elliott Smith - Roman Candle The Cranberries - No Need To Argue Yes - Talk Pulp - His ‘n’ Hers Eric Clapton - From The Cradle Rolling Stones - Voodoo Lounge Eagles - Hell Freezes Over Favourite Live Album : Nirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York
Ranked as I like them: #19-Testament-Low #20-Mercyful Fate-Time #21-Mayhem-De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas #22-Nine Inch Nails-The Downward Spiral #23-Marilyn Manson-Portrait of an American Family #24-Savatage-Handful of Rain #25-Meat Puppets-Too High to Die #26-At the Gates-Terminal Spirit Disease #27-Cannibal Corpse-The Bleeding #28-Cryptopsy-Blasphemy Made Flesh #29-Tiamat-Wildhoney #30-Green Day-Dookie #31-Edge of Sanity-Purgatory Afterglow
Not into black metal so I'll assume today's pick from Pete, won't be for me. My choice today is: #19. Tyketto - Strength In Numbers: High class AOR, well written & played and with the cherry on the cake that is Danny Vaughn's tremendous voice.
Day 13: The Last Temptation by Alice Cooper. Probably my least favorite out of the early 90s trilogy, Trash and Hey Stoopid are a bit better than this, but it's still really strong. There's some great songs on here, including "Lost in America", which has a really strong hook, "Nothing's Free", the great rockers "Bad Place Alone" and "You're My Temptation", "Stolen Prayer" and "Unholy War", which were written by Chris Cornell, "Lullaby" and the strong closer "Cleansed By Fire". Not one of his best solo albums, but a great one nonetheless. Day 1: Oasis - Definitely Maybe Day 2: Green Day - Dookie Day 3: Megadeth - Youthanasia Day 4: Nas - Illmatic Day 5: Blur - Parklife Day 6: Weezer - Weezer (Blue Album) Day 7: Helloween - Master of the Rings Day 8: Queensrÿche - Promised Land Day 9: Slayer - Divine Intervention Day 10: Savatage - Handful of Rain Day 11: Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman Day 12: Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse Day 13: Alice Cooper - The Last Temptation
Matching picks! Lost in a America is a fun song. Saw him play it last year in Milwaukee. It'll never happen but I'd love to hear You're My Temptation live. Stolen Prayer was a nice collaboration with Chris Cornell.
Pick for day 13: Magnum - Rock Art. Solid album before they went on a hiatus for a couple of years. In recent years they have constantly released great albums, and the latest one is no exception. So sad for the loss of Tony Clarkin, RIP. 1. Freak Kitchen - Appetizer 2. Dream Theater - Awake 3. Helloween - Master Of The Rings 4. Pink Floyd - The Division Bell 5. Queensryche - Promised Land 6. Megadeth - Youthanasia 7. Mercyful Fate - Time 8. Bruce Dickinson - Balls To Picasso 9. Dizzy Mizz Lizzy - S/T 10. Black Sabbath - Cross Purposes 11. Thunder - Behind Closed Doors 12. Testament - Low 13. Magnum - Rock Art
#21. HOLE- Live through THIS Courtney (not) Cobain" RiP Kurt She took up the mantle here. Quite a emotonial time in the scene. Some raw and jagged edges of angst and also self-assurance. #20: ZZ TOP - Antenna Re-Bootin Boogie for the Lil Ol Band via TEXASS! They took it back to the hard n heavy Blues w/ mucho Distortioned FUZZ. Good to hear Dusty's voice alot too. I heard it, I heard it, I heard it on the Tube! #21: BUSH - 16 Stone Debut Album, quite a start! Heavy guitars and rythyms in a cleane Nirvana kinda way. Evry thing ZEN- don't believe that ELVIS is Dead! Hard ALT Rock top notchery. # 22. Blues Traveler - 4 Another refresh of the Blues, with the hooks to make it RoLL. A unique sound, so you know who they are when you ear em. #23. WEEZER, Debut (BLue ALbum) ALT- PoP- Rock masters. Buddy Holly would approve! #24: PULP Fiction Soundtrack (Samuel L Jackson) TOP 5 Movie for me; Great mix of songs, and SLJ has 3 soliloquies here! F Gump this yr too. #25: The Cranberries, No Need to Argue . What a voice. RiP D.o'R
The mainstream may not care about bands like Emperor, but those of us with sophisticated underground tastes hail this album, along with the rest of Emperor's short but potent discography, as being top tier in the genre. My pick for today is Time by Mercyful Fate. It's a great follow up to their amazing comeback album, In the Shadows.
19. Codeine - The White Birch (Sub Pop) In 1990, there was little to prepare one for the slow, sad music of Codeine. Galaxie 500 was pretty languid, but still stuck to traditional structures. Slint had some moments on Tweeze (1989) but still had some post-hardcore outbursts of noise, as did Bitch Magnet. The blokes in Codeine were certainly listening to similar material, as there is evidence of noise rock influence on their debut, Frigid Stars LP. They recorded a follow-up in 1992, had studio issues with it and shelved it (reissued in 2022 as Dessau), and repurposed some of the tracks for their final album where they achieved the stand-offish beauty that would simulate the feeling of freezing to death, and goe on to influence dozens of slowcore and post-rock bands, and others that would draw on it for doomgaze and blackgaze like Alcest, Nadja, Jesu, Deafheaven and Holy Fawn. An understated 90s classic. It was a treat to see them live for the first time in decades at last year's Levitation Festival. The list had some shuffling as I downgraded FSA and added Codeine, which ultimately is placed after TSAC. 19. The Sea And Cake - The Sea And Cake 20. Codeine - The White Birch 21. Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary 22. Dinosaur Jr. - Without A Sound 23. Bark Psychosis - Hex 24. Massive Attack - Protection 25. Slant 6 - Soda Pop*Rip Off 26. Dog Faced Hermans - Those Deep Buds 27. Bedhead - What Fun Life Was 28. Luna - Bewitched 29. Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime 30. Jessamine - Jessamine 31. Flying Saucer Attack - Flying Saucer Attack [Rural Psychedelia]
Day 13: Mike Stern - Is What It Is Day 12: Al Di Meola - Orange And Blue Day 11: Roine Stolt - The Flower King Day 10: Yellowjackets - Run For Your Life Day 9: Dave Weckl - Hard Wired Day 8: Yngwie Malmsteen - The Seventh Sign Day 7: ELP - In The Hot Seat Day 6: John Scofield & Pat Metheny: I Can See Your House From Here Day 5: Pink Floyd - Division Bell Day 4: Soundgarden - Superunknown Day 3: Asia - Aria Day 2: Dream Theater - Awake Day 1: Yes - Talk
Love that Emperor album! It's essential for any extreme metal fan. It was my pick a few days ago. My 19th favorite album of 1994 is Balls To Picasso - Bruce Dickinson (June 3). Full List: 31) Troublegum - Therapy? (Feb 7) 30) Release - Cop Shoot Cop (Sept 13) 29) The Last Temptation - Alice Cooper (July 12) 28) Danzig 4 - Danzig (Oct 4) 27) Mötley Crüe - Mötley Crüe (Mar 15) 26) Where It All Begins - The Allman Brothers Band (May 3) 25) Youthanasia - Megadeth (Nov 1) 24) For Your Own Special Sweetheart - Jawbox (Feb 8) 23) Anarchy - Chumbawamba (Apr 25) 22) In The Nightside Eclipse - Emperor (Feb 21) 21) Stranger Than Fiction - Bad Religion (Sept 6) 20) Transilvanian Hunger - Darkthrone (Feb 17) 19) Balls To Picasso - Bruce Dickinson (June 3)
Late to this one! No. 13. Jeff Buckley - Grace. 😃👍. Released in August 1994. This might be the hippest album chosen by me for my list. I find it beautiful and irresistible from its remarkable beginning to the end. “Last Goodbye” is a great single and video. 🔥. The angels above must have needed a new glorious voice. Rock Always! - Heather
Hi Heather, I do own this actually, partly because it got so much praise as the greatest thing since sliced bread, but mainly because I got it for about $2.00 in a charity shop. Only listened to it once if I remember rightly. Pleasant, and he has a good voice, but not really my thing.
Today I'm going w Rolling Stones Voodoo Lounge - Great album & 1st time I saw the RS on this tour on the floor at Giants Stadium summer '94 - Mick was amazing!!
Good morning everybody! Missed yesterday due to an extreme work/driving day. So my picks today are one that I got turned onto watching SOT. Pentagram ‘Be Forewarned’. Excellent Sabbath like album! Now something obscure, the first full length from a band out of England Hood with ‘Cabled Linear Traction’ post/noise rock band.
Bruce Dickinson - Balls to Picasso 19. Bruce Dickinson - Balls to Picasso 20. Richard Thompson - Mirror Blue 21. Glenn Hughes - From Now On... 22. Buddy Guy - Slippin' In
My pick for today is Hole - Live Through This. More diverse and melodic than the raw and unpolished debut, but still a powerful, disturbing, gritty and angry album. I rarely heard someone sing so heartbreakingly than Courtney on the furious opening track ´Violet´. Other killers are ´´Plump´ ´She Walks On Me ´Doll Parts´ and ´Miss World´. Courtney is a genuine talent and she deserves more credit.
#13 Sugartooth (ST) (4/12/94) Notable for featuring Joey Castillo on drums who would go on to play with Danzig and Queens Of The Stone Age Highlights "Sold My Fortune" "Leave My Soul To Rest" "Gather Me/Ode" #12 The Offspring - Smash #11 Sausage - Riddles Are Abound Tonight #10 Pink Floyd - The Division Bell #9 Pantera - Far Beyond Driven #8 Our Lady Peace - Naveed #7 Motley Crue (ST) #6 Soundgarden - Superunknown #5 Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral #4 Green Day - Dookie #3 Prong - Cleansing #2 Alice In Chains - Jar Of Flies #1 King's X - Dogman

Today's pick Babasonicos - Trance Zomba Incredible 2nd album by this Argentine band, which I went to see live every time they played in my city. Mixture of styles (rock, psychedelia, disco, funk and Hardcore) that was new in my country. My favorite Argentine band from the 90's. Albums That Are 30 Years Old in 2024 Day 1- Beck - Stereopathic Soul Manure/Mellow Gold/One Foot in the Grave Day 2- Hermetica - Víctimas del vaciamiento Day 3- Sonic Youth - Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star Day 4- Warren G - Regulate…G Funk Era Day 5- Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral Day 6- John Frusciante - Niandra LaDes and Usualmente Just a T-Shirt Day 7- Pulp - His 'n' Hers Day 8- The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation Day 9- Jeff Buckley - Grace Day 10-Rollins Band - Weight Day 11- Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies Day 12- Pink Floyd - The Division Bell Day 13- Babasonicos - Trance Zomba

#13 Motorpsycho - Timothy's Monster Just discovered this band 2 years ago. CD1 is typical alterative for the day. CD2 gets proggy and is killer. Still putting out great music. #12 Sadistic Intent - Resurrection #11 35007 - Especially For You #10 Codeine - The White Birch #9 Napalm Death - Fear, Emptiness, Despair #8 Nailbomb - Point Blank #7 Rollins Band - Weight #6 Pentagram - Be Forewarned #5 Meat Puppets - Too High To Die #4 Acrimony - Hymns To The Stone #3 Sugar - File Under Easy Listening #2 Jessamine - Jessamine #1 Bedhead - What Fun Life Was
Todays pick: Rollins Band - "Weight". It`s aggressive and heavy but it`s not your typical metal. Elements of jazz and funk are present but they don`t sound a bit out of place. The passion and intensity Henry delivers on songs like "Disconnect" "Civilized", "Step Back", and "Volume 4" are almost scary, while "Liar" is more relevant now than ever. A good album to work out to.

Pentagram - Be Forewarned April 1994 The title track alone makes this a classic Doom album, who knows how much bigger they could have gotten if not for Lieblings habit.
Today's pick for me is by a prolific guitarist that needs no introduction - Steve Hackett - and his 1994 album 'Blues with a Feeling'. I found this an enjoyable album, showcasing one facet of Steve's extensive repertoire and talents, including his not inconsiderable skills on harmonica on several tracks. Quite a few highlights for me on this record and the two bonus tracks from the remastered version are excellent also.
My #13 pick is an album released on November 1, 1994 and recorded in May-August 1994 and produced by Jack Joseph Puig and the band im talking about the third studio album by U.S. rock band The Black Crowes Amorica (stylized as amorica.) #13. April's Motel Room - 'Black 14.' Produced by Matt Hyde (Slayer), the only LP by the hard rock, some metal, post grunge, alternative Simi Valley quintet. Coolest tracks -- 'California,' 'Get Down Jerry,' 'Get Her Way' and 'Riverside.' I wish they would've done more.

My Pick for Day #13 and my #19 is LOVE/HATE - Let's Rumble "I'll Bring The War To Your Front Door!" screams vocalist Jizzy Pearl on the opening title track and Love/Hate does bring it!!! Back in 1990 the LA Sleaze Rock scene was all the rage, and I heard their first single "Why Do You Think They Call It Dope?" and was hooked! The first two albums 1990's Blackout In The Red Room and 1992's Wasted In America are Killer and worth checking out also, and this their third is right up there! Starting with the one-two punch of the title track and Spinning Wheel (definitely my 2 favorites L/H tracks) Gritty riffs and startling lyrics about life in LA it doesn't get anymore real than this! Other Standout tracks are Wrong Side Of The Grape, Black Iguana, Sexical, Flower and the ballad If You Believe In Miracles.
1. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral 2. Marillion - Brave 3. Bush - Sixteen Stone 4. Stone Temple Pilots - Purple 5. Pink Floyd - The Division Bell 6. Yes - Talk 7. Alice In Chains - Jar Of Flies 8. The Cranberries - No Need To Argue 9. Smashing Pumpkins - Pisces Iscariot 10. Slayer - Divine Intervention 11. Mötley Crüe - Mötley Crüe 12. Oasis - Definitely Maybe 13. Pantera - Far Beyond Driven Arguably their best album after Cowboys From Hell.
I am not personally a fan of death metal, thrash metal or grunge, and 1990's progressive metal is a genre I've completely lost any taste for after Queensryche's "Empire" album. If anything the 1990's was the decade with a dearth of good music (for my tastes) such that I went "back to my roots" to the 1970's (and late 1960's) and discovered The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, krautrock and psychedelia to go with my love of prog rock, NWOBHM, hard rock and punk from that same decade. This is therefore an interesting challenge for me to find 31 albums from 1994 that I genuinely own and love - so, not in any specific order: 01 - The Beat Farmers - Viking Lullabys 02 - Killing Joke - Pandemonium 03 - Michael Katon - Rip It Hard! 04 - Sparks - Gratuitous Sax And Violins 05 - The Dickies - Idjit Savant 06 - Eloy - The Tides Return Forever 07 - Stiff Little Fingers - Get A Life 08 - Tiles - Tiles 09 - Z (Zappa Brothers) - Shampoohorn 10 - Victory - Voiceprint 11 - Buddy Guy - Slippin' In 12 - BBM (Baker Bruce Moore) - Around The Next Dream 13 - Moody Marsden Band - Real Faith
Just for curiosity l had a listen yesterday to Pete's album choice 😢 I really have no clue how anybody can enjoy this 'music', but then many music fans would say to me, Steely Dan, Supertramp, Elton John? How boring! When it came to this months picks l came up with the grand total of three albums 😅 Pink Floyd, REM and Sacred Spirit, for me the flood of albums l bought in the 70's had reduced to a trickle by the 90's and beyond, the late 60's and 70's were my era although l do like a few later artists such as Dido, Travis and my favourite of all The Editors.
@@keithjones7390Some of the albums that Pete has already covered are to come in my list but, as I said above, not in the categories that I don't enjoy. It was the 90's (and lack of interesting music therein) that forced me to go back to the 1970's to find more good music - at that point I discovered Elton John and Supertramp, amongst others.
#13. The Brand New Heavies-Brother Sister, another genre quite popular in the early nineties was Acid Jazz, and these guys were one of the leading exponents, bringing more soul and funk elements to their music. Quite a long album at just over an hour, fifteen tracks, this has some fine playing, with a great horn section with some cracking tunes. The first track Have A Good Time is a great start, reminiscent of Average White Band, it just gets better with Brother Sister, the hit single Dream On Dreamer, an excellent version of Midnight At The Oasis, some funky grooves on the instrumental Ten Ton Take, Mind Trips, Fake and Day Break. If you like War or AWB you might dig this band.
Hi Michael...have you been thumbing through Kevin's CD's?? lol. I've never heard these guys. Are there any vocals or is it all instrumental? Yeah, I LOVE AWB and War! I'll give this a spin this evening. Surely hope your Wednesday was kind and easy.

A little Indie / Hard Core today. The band was known for just releasing EPs ,but this is 1 full length CD at over 42 minutes long. With the inclusion of stringed instruments, it has a different sound throughout a few of the songs, but still worthy of a listen or 2. My March 13th selection is "Rusty" by Rodan.
#19 for me - Bjork’s THE BEST MIXES. Bjork’s second release, but it was mixes of her initial album- entitled DEBUT. I appreciate her creativity throughout her solo career, but I still favor her material when she was in the Sugar Cubes. The initial track - HUMAN BEHAVIOR ( the first track on DEBUT)- features electronic legends Underworld laying down the mix; and that can only be good!

I'm staying Norway also. Going with De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas from Mayhem.

13) Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Sleeps With Angels
Until I gave it a spin for the purpose of writing this, I had forgotten just how good this album is.

Morning, Pete. Satyricon, The Shadowthrone. Another great black metal album from my favorite black metal band. Satyricon was always very diverse. You can almost hum along to Vikingland while you can break your neck listening to Dominions Of Satyricon. Day 13. Red Sea - Blood This one came out as a breath of fresh air of classic hard rock. The music is influenced by the greets of early 70's hard rock with all the groove that came with the genre. Well worth the listen for those that like their rock hard and heavy.

David Cavanagh of Q Magazine wrote that "musically, these 15 songs represent the Stones at their all-time least newsworthy," adding that "Voodoo Lounge is no classic, but nor is it the resounding hound it could have been." Though he was disappointed in the inconsistency of the album's second half, he called the trio of opening rockers "exuberant and on the warm side" despite their lyric shortcomings and hailed the next four songs as an extremely good stretch with "Out of Tears" in particular showing "tantalizing glimmers of genius."
Writing for Vox magazine in August 1994, Steven Dalton thought that the album's strongest tracks were filled with "echoes of the band's halcyon days", most notably 1972's Exile on Main Street and 1978's Some Girls.
Jon Pareles of The New York Times found Voodoo Lounge to be disappointing, arguing that the album "rings hollow, as if it were made not to shake things up but simply to fuel the machine." He harshly criticized the songwriting, arguing that "for much of the album, Jagger and Richards seem determined to write the most generic love songs possible...Flip over the sentimentality, and the Stones offer some of their least convincing leers."
Robert Christgau didn't believe the album warranted a full review, consigning it to his column's list of "honorable mentions" and commenting only that the Stones had become the "world's greatest roots-rock band." Tom Hull similarly listed it as an "honorable mention," conceding that the album "feels like they're just going through the motions."
Alexis Petridis of The Guardian would later rank Voodoo Lounge as one of their weakest albums, writing that "this isn't a bad album, exactly, but it sounds as if hard work was involved, the product of craft rather inspiration: tough coming from a band that, at their best, made it all seem effortless." Petridis also felt that the 62-minute album was much too long, joking that "it goes on for about six weeks." David Marchese of New York expressed a similar criticism, writing that Voodoo Lounge "would’ve killed at 45 minutes" while pointing out the weakest songs as he reviewed the album track-by-track.

With her debut album "Little Earthquakes" Tori Amos brought a completely new sound to pop and rock music, which also touched me deeply at the time, both lyrically and musically.

# 21 Portishead - Dummy
# 22 Tony MacAlpine - Premonition
# 23 Blumfeld - L’Etat et moi

# 29 ZZ Top - Antenna
# 30 Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
# 31 Robert Hood - Minimal Nation
Hello Pete and everyone. Today’s album choice is my second from the ‘big 4’ of Britpop:
Suede - Dog Man Star
Up until a year or so ago, I didn’t like this band’s music as much as the other 3 bands.
Nos. 11-30 (not ranked)
Bonnie Raitt - Longing In Their Hearts
Jimmy Page & Robert Plant - No Quarter
ZZ Top - Antenna
David Lee Roth - Your Filthy Little Mouth
Elliott Smith - Roman Candle
The Cranberries - No Need To Argue
Yes - Talk
Pulp - His ‘n’ Hers
Eric Clapton - From The Cradle
Rolling Stones - Voodoo Lounge
Eagles - Hell Freezes Over
Favourite Live Album : Nirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York

@@tomp4053I know a lot of people rank this low ( no pun intended) in Testament’s catalog, but it’s always been one of my favorites
My # 13 Pick today is Rolling Stones - Voodoo Lounge!!
Hi rob. Awesome pick
19. Pink Floyd- The Division Bell
Not into black metal so I'll assume today's pick from Pete, won't be for me. My choice today is:
#19. Tyketto - Strength In Numbers:
High class AOR, well written & played and with the cherry on the cake that is Danny Vaughn's tremendous voice.
Day 1: Oasis - Definitely Maybe
Day 2: Green Day - Dookie
Day 3: Megadeth - Youthanasia
Day 4: Nas - Illmatic
Day 5: Blur - Parklife
Day 6: Weezer - Weezer (Blue Album)

Day 11: Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman
Day 12: Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Day 13: Alice Cooper - The Last Temptation
Matching picks! Lost in a America is a fun song. Saw him play it last year in Milwaukee. It'll never happen but I'd love to hear You're My Temptation live. Stolen Prayer was a nice collaboration with Chris Cornell.

RiP D.o'R
#19 of 31: Axel Rudi Pell: Between the Walls
The mainstream may not care about bands like Emperor, but those of us with sophisticated underground tastes hail this album, along with the rest of Emperor's short but potent discography, as being top tier in the genre.
My pick for today is Time by Mercyful Fate. It's a great follow up to their amazing comeback album, In the Shadows.
19. Codeine - The White Birch (Sub Pop)
In 1990, there was little to prepare one for the slow, sad music of Codeine.
19. The Sea And Cake - The Sea And Cake

Today I'm going w Rolling Stones Voodoo Lounge -
Great album & 1st time I saw the RS on this tour on the floor at Giants Stadium summer '94 - Mick was amazing!!
Hi Artie -- great pick. I saw them on the same tour, Salt Lake City with the Fabulous Thunderbirds opening. Spectacular performances by both bands.

My pick for today is Hole - Live Through This. More diverse and melodic than the raw and unpolished debut, but still a powerful, disturbing, gritty and angry album. Pick 13 zztop antnia
This is therefore an interesting challenge for me to find 31 albums from 1994 that I genuinely own and love - so, not in any specific order:
01 - The Beat Farmers - Viking Lullabys
02 - Killing Joke - Pandemonium
03 - Michael Katon - Rip It Hard!
04 - Sparks - Gratuitous Sax And Violins
05 - The Dickies - Idjit Savant
06 - Eloy - The Tides Return Forever
07 - Stiff Little Fingers - Get A Life
08 - Tiles - Tiles
09 - Z (Zappa Brothers) - Shampoohorn
10 - Victory - Voiceprint
11 - Buddy Guy - Slippin' In
12 - BBM (Baker Bruce Moore) - Around The Next Dream
13 - Moody Marsden Band - Real Faith
@@gadgettheratboy9051 Hi Gadget, yes, mostly vocals, N'Dea Davenport, female vocalist, give Dream On Dreamer a listen first, to give you an idea.
Some great Bass on this album.
@@andrewcarr5923 Yes indeed!
@@gadgettheratboy9051 Hi Gadget, i said the same about your pick today! we've both been thumbing through Kevin's CD's, no it's not all instrumental, there are only two instrumental, i didn't word my sentences out right! if you play Dream On Dreamer and Have A Good Time, it would be a good start. My last reply disappeared, it's getting a bit weird on here, comments disappearing.

@@bengalgangster You're welcome, bengal. Awesome artist and album. Woohoo 🎉 Matches 🎉
Hi Bengal. I’ll have to check your pick out.
Great choice!
Pick # 13: Bush- Sixteen Stone
Well done Captain! I've got this gem coming up on my list. Cheers 🍻
@@christophercoles4401 Thanks Chris Cheers 🍺

My pick for Day 13 (#19 in my countdown)
Foreigner - Mr. Moonlight
19 Sonic Youth Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star
20 Velvet Crush Teenage Symphonies to God
21 Dog Faced Hermans Those Deep Buds
22 The Auteurs Now I'm a Cowboy
23 Kristin Hersh Hips and Makers
24 The Magnetic Fields Holiday
25 Frank Black Teenager of the Year
26 Sam Phillips Martinis and Bikinis
27 L7 Hungry for Stink
28 Grant Lee Buffalo Mighty Joe Moon
