    Speaking of meeting characters at random, my recent trip to Disneyland was unforgettable. I was in line for Indiana Jones and as I was walking, looking down on my phone, Indiana Jones appeared out of nowhere and stopped the woman in front of me. He said to her, "I like your shirt" then fist bumped her, and started walking away backwards smiling at her. I was in complete shock! As he was walking away I pointed at him with the biggest smile on my face and said, "INDY!" He turned to me, tipped his hat and said, "How you doin' pal?" I had to keep on walking as I was holding up the line but we exchanged smiles and waves and he went off. People around me were saying just how cool that was. That made my day as I'm a HUGE Indiana Jones fan. Absolutely magical. I'll never forget that.

      We are normally Disney world goers, but planning a Disneyland trip for next September. You are turning into my favorite channel for Disneyland information, and I'm hoping that you can answer a question for me. My husband and I have two toddlers when we go one will just turn 4, and the other will be 2. Although we are both excited to ride with our girls, my question is can we combine the use of single Rider, and Rider swap? If we do decide to ride a taller height requirement ride for example the Incredibles coaster could we do single Rider, and then do Rider swap. I use that particular ride as an example, because I know neither one of the girls will be tall enough to ride it with us, so we would just be riding alone. Also how does that work with Genie Plus? Because if we decide to make the purchase would we also need to get it for our four-year-old, or would genie plus even be worth it for our family to buy?

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@sarahrussell7305 So Single Rider and Rider Swap are two separate features that can’t be combined. If you want the Fastpass that Rider Swap gives for the second rider, you’d have to go through the regular Standby line.
      However, two rounds of Single Rider will almost undoubtedly be faster for those rides with single rider lines. The one exception being Incredicoaster. It always has a long Single Rider line because there are fewer instances where single riders are needed.
      As to Genie+, yes, your 4 year old will need it as a ticketed guest. I think there are enough rides on Genie+ that she can do that it should still be worth it to get.
      Your two year old, who doesn’t have a ticket, won’t need Genie+ but will still be allowed on those rides that she is tall enough for.
      For genie+ rides they aren’t tall enough for, both adults can go through separately.
      For genie+ rides only your 2 year old isn’t tall enough for, that’s where you’ll have a bit of a dilemma. You could ask when you enter the line. They might offer you a rider swap for your 4 year old so she can ride again with the adult who sat out with your 2 year old.

    I've been to both recently and I agree Disneyland is better. The hotel proximity, the two parks and hopping ability, and shorter lines due to more rides per park are something that I forgot about prior to our Florida trip. It didn't take long waiting for busses and standing in line for 40 minutes to get real old real quick. Plus downtown Disney being walkable as well is really nice.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Last time I went to WDW I stayed at All Star Sports (because it was the cheapest) and the buses worked decently well there.
      We usually stay at Caribbean Beach for the skyliner, but when you want to go to a non-skyliner park, you might be waiting forever for a bus because it fills up at other stations and never even makes it to your stop.
      Very annoying.

    Disneyland is easy to get around. You can walk back to your hotel and drop off souvenirs, use the bathroom, take a quick rest, etc., and be back in the park super quick. The socal weather is awesome, you can be outside all day long from start to finish if you want. Rides they have Alice in wonderland, roger rabbit, Mr toad, Pooh bear ride complete with heffalumps and woozles dream sequence , etc. plus the food Disneyland has tigger tails and raspberry Coca Cola. Also the history, Walt built the park and was there (even had an apartment). The snack Doritos was invented at Disneyland (the predecessor to rancho del zocallo). So the history is there. I like the Disneyland castle too. I went on a tour, and I think they said the paint for the castle (some specialty paint for the 100th anniversary shield was like 2 grand a gallon-it does some sort of aurora borealis effect when light hits it

      Seeing walking vids of the 2 parks on YT somewhat surprised me. I've long had a vague sense of newer & bigger (big-sized castle!) being a bit better than (or at least as good as) older & smaller. But a certain charm of the original park compared with newer ones comes through in vids. As for another Disney park, I recall a person from Tokyo telling me yrs ago that DL in Anaheim was more friendly (don't recall her exact words---but something like that). But since overall aspects of the MK in Tokyo is patterned after the MK in Orlando, I now sort of get what she meant.

    I’ve been to all the Disney parks except for Shanghai and although each park has its claim-to-fame, Disneyland is still the one that is peak Disney magic.
    Disneyland feels like the best version of a family-owned theme park where “everybody knows your name”. It’s due to the chill vibe of the park and its guests. The other parks, albeit very impressive and fun, just seem a little ‘corporate’ to me. Especially WDW.

One that you didn’t mention is that early entry in Disneyland is a huge benefit with zero lines and very few people so we get up to 4 rides before the park opens. That does not happen at Disneyworld because everyone gets early entry there so it’s not helpful.

    Addressing the guests at each park - Disneyland and DCA are mostly comprised of local guests who appreciate the fact they can visit weekly, whereas WDW is mostly tourists who feel they’ve paid a ton of money and will not return soon and there might be a sense of entitlement there. Plus, as you had mentioned, the weather is miserable (hot and humid through the night) in FL compared to CA.🤣 At least it cools down in CA in the evenings.

We have absolutely loved our time in Orange County and at Disneyland! There is diversity but it’s beautiful! I feel like the evenings in the parks are better because the locals come in and we get to talk to people who really know the area and appreciate the happy and “magical” atmosphere of Disney. We’ve been here for 10 days. We’ve been to the parks, baseball games, tours, and just been out and about and the locals on So Cal are great! I’ve also been here for work a couple of times on my own the past few years. Don’t believe everything you read or see. Also, I recently spent time in another (which shall remain nameless) big city on the east coast. The only people who would talk to you or even make eye contact were those in the service industry hoping for a tip. Not always the case if you include the queue as part of the attraction because their queues are way better. But about the only ride I can think of where the actual ride is better is Dumbo, and that’s only because they have two of them so it moves the line faster.

Most of DL’s versions of the classic / E ticket rides are just better, although I do like both ToT and GotG Mission Breakout for different reasons. I find DL to be more manageable and relaxing since it’s easier to take breaks and it’s not as crazy crowded, which likely contributes to people being more chill and positive. Only things I don’t prefer at DL v WDW is the $$$$$ Disney hotels, the stress around how to ride Peter Pan (unlike WDW where it has LL), and its lack of proper amphitheater seating for Fantasmic. WDW’s Disney Magic Express was great too. But I would easily skip all those for an overall better parks experience at DL!! Thx for a great video!

My kids (now young adults, 2/3 are here with me) and I have been to Disney World a total of five times and we had 10 day passes for each of those trips, so I feel like I’m a Disney World pro! I have to say I agree with every single one of your points. I have really enjoyed our three days so far and I love how close together everything is. It really is within walking distance. The only problem is I get confused in Disneyland because I think I know where I am, and then I realize this park may look the same but it’s not. :-) The only thing that I have found I think is better at Walt Disney World are the table service restaurant options. When we took our young daughter to MK in WDW we enjoyed many of the great queues (Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, Dumbo, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, which she absolutely loved and kept her entertained/cooled off, but now that she is a little older-Disneyland/DCA was the better option for a recent trip we took to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the company. We also took past trips to the other 3 parks in WDW and they all had features for little kids that our daughter loved (the Sea , Journey Into Imagination with Figment, Frozen Ever After, Toy Story Land, Festival of the Lion King show, the various play areas, live animals, sing along music shows, plenty of character meet and greets, etc. etc). We haven’t been back to WDW for a few years now, but want to plan another trip sometime in a year or two to be able to enjoy more of thrilling attractions that she missed out on. So we really like aspects of both Disneyland and WDW, but agree with every point you mentioned about Disneyland.
    Another benefit to Disneyland is the ease of using Genie + and that it includes all your photo pass pictures. At Disneyland, you can get Lighting Lane Reservations back-to-back, so easily vs at WDW a lot of reservations are gone very quickly and/or pushed out so far out time wise. And since you mentioned that Disneyland has a moving yeti (poor Expedition Everest), they also have Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and 2 Alice and Wonderland rides (not just the Tea Cups).

    Rides done better in Disneyland:

    Pirates of the Caribbean
    Small world
    Big Thunder
    Unique rides:
    Matterhorn
    Indiana
    More for less:
    You get Star Wars inside Disneyland, instead of having to go to Hollywood Studios, and now also Mickey’s and Minnie’s runaway train
    Disneyland has more rides so it’s a better value

So, you can watch the castle fireworks and then walk over to Tom Sawyer Island to see Fantasmic! 45 minutes later. Or, you can just watch the first Fantasmic! show and then stay for the duplicate water projection for the fireworks also. That isn't possible to do at Disney World.

    The characters walking around “in the wild” is something I remember from my childhood (70s/80s) at WDW… I do miss that, and love to see it still happening at DL. I feel like maybe they went to roping characters off into queued meetings at WDW because that location gets such big crowds from all over the world, whereas DL is more intimate and more of a “locals park.” (And, as was mentioned in the video, there are unfortunately a lot more instances of rude or inappropriate guest behavior on a regular basis at WDW).

    I 100% prefer Disney World. The hotels are WAY cheaper and busses are free to go ANYWHERE in the entire Disney world property. Plus there is so much more to do in Disney World. When I go to Disney land, I can finish everything in maybe two days. When I go on vacation, I wanna go for a week. I would be absolutely bored out of my mind if I stayed at Disney land for more than two days 😂. On the other hand, I wouldn’t be able to do everything in Disney world even in 5 days, not including hotel hopping or Disney springs, which is 10x bigger with 10x more things to do than downtown Disney. Sorry, I’m gonna have to disagree.

    Things you missed on why Disneyland is better:
    Our Train goes through its a small world like as if its a model train like in Disney's vision
    Our train has more to see including the Grand Canyon and Primeval world.
    Our Tiana's Bayou Adventure will make more sesne because the movie takes place in New Orleans and next door is New Orleans Square
    Additional Note: if Disneyland didn't exist, neither would Doritos

    I agree completely. WDW has less rides in four park than the Disneyland Resort has in two. I was so disappointed when I went to WDW and realized the ride times there were really long on the most popular rides at HS, AK and EPCOT because there are only around 10 rides each in those parks. And only a few of the rides in each of those parks are really great so everyone is in line for those three to five rides in those parks. Disneyland does a much better job dispersing people, and has shorter wait times because there are so many more options in each park. My friend told me once that if Disneyland had something like EPCOT she would never have to go to WDW. I agree. I love WDW, but Disneyland is just so much more accessible and way less work! I like Disneyland Paris more than WDW for the same reason and Hyperspace Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain are far superior in that park than either American park, and their Tower of Terror is definitely the creepiest.

    I 100 percent agree with you! When I went to Disney World, I was like..I can get these rides at home without walking so much in the humid heat, dying as I was comparing the parks and thinking Disneyland's version of everything was so much more magical and better to me. But at Disney World the cast members do treat you like you are actually on vacation, they are super nice. Disneyland cast members are mostly wonderful but at times you can get rude or very indifferent service. I had this happen at Bengal BBQ and Mint Julep Bar, where I felt like a number instead of a valued guest. No thank you. Or your welcome, just get your food and go. The tone is different, the attitudes are different. But Disneyland also has the history and the presence of Walt. So I do agree Disneyland is the best to me.

    WDW is a bigger footprint but that does not mean value added. The compact footprint of Disneyland is immersive in such a magical way and much easier to navigate. Personally I think the planning of WDW was off. They started with a lot of space so everything was spread out. But paying to walk in the heat and humidity through a lot of landscaping (even though nicely designed) is just not the same level of enjoyment. WDW was clearly built to be "all inclusive" and handle huge numbers of people, but in doing so it lost charm as well as attention to detail (quality of rides, food, the characters free roaming etc.). A huge castle is just a bigger prop. Once Disneyland/DCA gets a Pandora experience - the only thing I miss - the west coast Disney package will be extra wonderful.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  ปีที่แล้ว

Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safari, Carousel of Progress, Maharaja Jungle Trek, Gorilla Falls, Living with the Land, Spaceship Earth, World Showcase (10 countries), Test Track, Mission: Space, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, Slinky Dog Dash, Pooh's Adventure, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. And, 18 more hotel choices - all with transportation to any of the Disney World parks. Both locations have advantages and disadvantages. As a neutral party (not a California or Florida native) I have to agree 100%. The only real thing I can think of that Florida has over DL is that there are more affordable hotel options. Staying at a resort hotel really adds to the experience and the magic and it's a shame that California DL only has expensive, cost prohibitive options.

      For a close-to-magic experience, I recommend staying at the Anaheim Majestic Garden. It's one of two hotels that are grandfathered into being allowed to run their own shuttle busses instead of using the ART. Plus, the castle theming and the fact they have their own princess (granted, a cheap Disney knockoff) really contributes to the magical vibe of going to Disney.

  • @rickace132
    @rickace132 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Disney World was built for very large crowds, it was designed to maximize profits as much as possible. Disneyland was built to make people have a good time with their friends/family, or just by yourself. It's just much more cozier, things are closer together, so you don't need to walk that much. Disney World is bigger that makes you walk a lot, people get tired and then they get frustrated, and so on a so forth. Also, the heat. The heat in Florida raises anxiety levels, and lowers cognition(is my schools have air conditioning). That and being tired from walking a lot, makes people frustrated, unhappy and rude as you just mentioned. At Disneyland it's also cooler, temperature wise. This makes people a bit more relax. During Winter time, the cold makes Disneyland is more Magical.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes! I've done that plenty of times with extended family vacations. We had 13.
      The key is being flexible. So for us, one family was always really late. The rest of us arrived for rope drop, and the third family said they would, but then were always a half an hour behind. So we just left them and went about our day and eventually we linked up around Noon. So I'd say let smaller units break off to do their favorite things in the morning and then link up for lunch and stay together after during the busier times of the day.
      Additionally, having everyone create a priority list such as a top ride, a preferred dining location, etc and then do your best to make sure everyone's highest priority is met. That way everyone got to do the one thing they couldn't visit Disneyland without doing.
      For dining reservations, you might need to break apart into smaller groups to get reservations, then when you check-in, just tell the cast members you're one big party and see if they can sit you all together. If they can't, then maybe they can keep your tables as close together as possible.
