I wouldn't say courting kind of implies that they just met. The implication throughout the film is that they just always pop in.. Poppins haha.. to each others lives all the time so they're more of a long time casual item than a blooming relationship.
It would be interesting to know the history of Mary and Burt. It is obvious in the film that Burt already knows her when she shows up. I wonder what the story is behind how they came to first know each other? And what Mary Poppins actually is, it is obvious she is not just a regular person, is she a Sprite a Fairy a Good Witch what exactly is she?
+irwinisidro TBH with you, I am really glad that they did, as Mary Poppins was always telling the children off in the books all the time and rarely saying anything nice to them.
This is my top fave scene of the whole movie!!! Takes a whole lot of talent & creativity to dance, sing & act with a bare backdrop considering the background were all sketched in & drawn after they filmed this scene! Julie & VanDyke are super talented! I love Julie!
Julie Andrews is just unmatched - except for in this movie Mary and Bert ! theyre just the perfect pairing the way she speaks of him in her verse is so poetic it makes me tear up
People out here talking about how Mary's verse is the politest friendzone of all time, but I don't see it?? Like I'd be absolutely honoured if a woman (whether any interest were there or not, doesn't matter) said those things to me and would do my level best to live up to those expectations.
Introduced to this wonderful wonderful film as a child back in the 60s. It had a huge bearing on my whole life. As an adult I can get emotional even watching it today at the end of 2018. Disney was simply brilliant and only yesterday my eldest daughter grown up takes my other daughter to see the new sequel film. They both cried in it and loved it mainly because they told me afterwords that s it reminded them of their childhoods. They said thanks Dad for giving us such a magical childhood. What bigger complement can you have than that from your kids. I didn't do much really other than spend a lot of time with them and give them the duty free gift; a vivid imagination. Well all I can say is thanks Walt Disney for such brilliant inspirational films.
+Andrew Dennehy I love how, if Saving Mr. Banks is to be believed, PL Travers forbade Disney from putting these two in a relationship, and so this part is basically poking fun at the idea :P
I do love this so much and I do wish they hadn't made a sequel that everyone is raving about. It will never never ever compare to this treasured masterpiece.
Michael: "I thought you said there was a fair?" Poppins: "Have some epic unsupervised fun kids while I go off with the Chimney Sweep instead of what I'm being paid to do!"
Oh, so that's what he was saying! I remember being so confused about Michael's line as a kid, for the longest time I thought he wanted to see a bear (for some reason)!
In honor of me seeing Mary Poppins Returns tonight. The animation and live action hybrid in this sequence was so astonishing for it's time. And the dance break was perhaps the first time I ever enjoyed ballet. I was 4 (the exact same age my dad was in this movie's original 1964 release) when I first saw the movie on video back in 1997. I'll be 26 in less than two months.
I ❤ Dick Van Dyke as Bert and Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins, this is the best song Jolly Holiday from Disney’s Mary Poppins (1964) I’ve have ever seen.
Sixty years later, I think we are all very fortunate people to see both principals of this song still among the living. Hello from 2024, and all that that entails.

@@manuelorozco7760 yeah and in the first film he played the Mr.Dawes Sr. But it's really nice that we'll be seeing him again. The sequel better be great!
This movie was released in Chicago and I was 10 years old. My brother was 17 and refused to take me. So my parents did. The movie was so great that my parents bought the soundtrack for me. I still have it. This song is one of many extraordinary performances in this masterpiece. However, this one makes me teary because of the love that is evident between Mary and Burt. One of the tragedies was when Julie was robbed of her voice. She was consummate. But the joy is that I get to write this while Dick is still alive. Whether it was his TV show, or Bye Bye Birdie, or Columbo, or Diagnosis Murder, or Mary Poppins, Mr. Van Dyke is always brilliant. "A vanishing breed, that's me.!" A vanishing breed is Mr. Van Dyke. A jolly jolly holiday with you.

Your advantage
Forbearance is the hallmark of your creed
A lady needn't fear when you are near
Your sweet gentility is crystal clear!
Oh, it's a jolly holiday with you, Bert
A jolly, jolly holiday with you!
Man, just hearing this song could make the most depressing days brighter! :)
This proves that Bert and Mary were courting each other. 😊💞
That's deep but I like it haha
+irwinisidro TBH with you, I am really glad that they did, as Mary Poppins was always telling the children off in the books all the time and rarely saying anything nice to them.
jinxy72able dont go to far into it its just something mysteriously wonderful
Mary Poppins is perfect in every way, she does not age nor change.
Just a lady of very high stature who is perfect in every way.
this came out in 1964, I'm still marveling at this technology!!!
This is my top fave scene of the whole movie!!! Takes a whole lot of talent & creativity to dance, sing & act with a bare backdrop considering the background were all sketched in & drawn after they filmed this scene! Julie & VanDyke are super talented! I love Julie!
One of my favourite Disney classic films of all time. Plus this is one of my favourite songs
This one of my favorite songs from Mary Poppins
I love Mary Poppins! She brings back some of my most wonderful memories!
Julie Andrews is just unmatched - except for in this movie
Mary and Bert !
theyre just the perfect pairing
the way she speaks of him in her verse is so poetic it makes me tear up
People out here talking about how Mary's verse is the politest friendzone of all time, but I don't see it?? Like I'd be absolutely honoured if a woman (whether any interest were there or not, doesn't matter) said those things to me and would do my level best to live up to those expectations.
In that case you are a simp my friend!
Isn’t even a romance movie 🤷
I see them as best of friends. I have friend (woman) and their friendship reminds me of ours. Unfortunately no magic powers :(
Aw.
You can see it in his face when she basically says he isn't a threat.
A lady needn't fear indeed.
Julie Andrews....the epitome of naturally beautiful.
Everything about this movie is perfect and makes me happy. How did TH-cam know I needed to watch this right now?
this is so timeless. what a beautiful, beautiful song.
Mary & Burt are gifts of life , they make life more beautiful ^_^ , love to know them exist in our thinking. Keep positive thinkings guys
They are very good characters of the film!
This scene cures my anxiety 😌
What do you mean
These special effects would hardly be called that today but somehow this gem of a movie has kept its magic intact.
It never gets old!!!!
I agree
Well all I can say is thanks Walt Disney for such brilliant inspirational films.
harpothehealer The sequel is really good but I prefer this original
Back when Disney actually made quality movies… 😎
You don’t gotta be critical
@@joewhitehead3yeah he does
They should have been maintaining momentum after Encanto! But for the most part they haven’t
this gives off the purest energy! will always be one of my favorites :,)
Man, the look on Bert's face as he gets legendarily friend-zoned from 4:52 on. XD
Literally I laugh every time I see that exact part. Every. Single. Time.
+Thepopcornator She just hits him with gut shot after gut shot. So harsh.
+Andrew Dennehy I love how, if Saving Mr. Banks is to be believed, PL Travers forbade Disney from putting these two in a relationship, and so this part is basically poking fun at the idea :P
Thanks for pointing out his facial expression. I watched it after reading your comment. His reaction is priceless while showing his "sweet gentility".
He liked it better when he was the one singing lol
I do love this so much and I do wish they hadn't made a sequel that everyone is raving about. It will never never ever compare to this treasured masterpiece.
This scene is so gosh darn adorable, it pains me to think about Snow White 2024.
Michael: "I thought you said there was a fair?"
Poppins: "Have some epic unsupervised fun kids while I go off with the Chimney Sweep instead of what I'm being paid to do!"
😂
yeah but have u seen his eyes
tell me you wouldn't do the same
Do not be so serious. This is magic. Nobody gets hurt.
saqw,2a
Oh, so that's what he was saying! I remember being so confused about Michael's line as a kid, for the longest time I thought he wanted to see a bear (for some reason)!
I love this & am in love with Julie! No other Mary Poppins for me
"why do you always complicate things that are quite simple?"
>Proceeds to do magic
-women 😂
Alright, which of you demons are giving this the thumbs down?
Daan892 Ha, clever.
+Daan892 Good one. XD.

MasterofPuberty wasn’t me, man. I swear.
HONESTLY.... M00D... WHO DOESN’T LOVE MARY POPPINS
This song GRABS MY HEART!!!!
I LOVE MARY POPPINS ONE MY FAVORITES AND JOLLY HOLIDAY IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES AND MANY OTHERS ❤
Lovely. Dreams should be like this.
Every time I watch this I smile 😁. It's just so charming. And I hope the new Mary Poppins Returns gives me that same feeling.
She really is practically perfect in every way. :D

I ❤ Dick Van Dyke as Bert and Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins, this is the best song Jolly Holiday from Disney’s Mary Poppins (1964) I’ve have ever seen.
I’m not the only one who thought Mary and Bert were a thing when i first watched this movie right?
They definitely were a thing. She tolerated his uncle Albert so... Yeah. 😂😂
her dress though 😍 this scene 😍😍
this was like the best thing of my childhood i swear
i shipped mary & bert before i even knew what shipping was #otp
So good, love this since I was a kid :)
I'm now 49 and still remember most of the songs, such a chemistry with all the actors
Favorite movie of my youth in the 1960s.
Really
The greatest film Walt Disney pictures ever released. No competition. Okay, maybe Pinocchio.
Movies don't get any better than this. Who doesn't love Julie & Dick?
Sixty years later, I think we are all very fortunate people to see both principals of this song still among the living.
Hello from 2024, and all that that entails.
I really love Bert's character. He is always so optimistic about everything in life and clearly likes and knew Mary like no one else does. Glad he will be playing a role in the sequel. We love you Dick Van Dyke! Long live to you and Julie.
I actually find it surreal he's playing Mr. Dawnes Jr in the sequel. My favorite movies with Dick are this one and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
@@manuelorozco7760 yeah and in the first film he played the Mr.Dawes Sr. But it's really nice that we'll be seeing him again. The sequel better be great!
Christine Joyce Limpajan It’s not great but still really good
oh man, this takes me back. This was my favorite part!!!
0:09 Mary just skiddoed right into that drawing!
Mary skidoo, WE CAN TOO!
@@pbscraze My dad and I have the same color like yours!
My boyfriend is always singing this song to me all the time lol
How nice of him
They have so much chemistry
I’ve just watched the film again now and god do I love this film Mary’s smile and berts goofy attitude just brightens my day and my life!! I hope from the beyond you see Walt that you have created a world that people of all ages love and your death was never in vain and never will be it’s been around 70 years since your death and the company you created is never stopping
I wish this video hadn't ended at 5:30 but went the full 9:15. You would have included the Penguin Dance and the Finale of Jolly Holiday!
