Active Car Safety Systems include Emergency Lane Keeping, Lane Departure Warnings, Driver Monitoring and many others... Chinese Cars are FULL of them, and so are the modern Japanese cars. Are those driver assistance systems built differently in Japanese cars compared to their Chinese counterparts? Let's have an honest discussion!
I will compare Active Safety Systems of my new Subaru Outback 2023 with the lane keep assist of GWM Haval H6, driver fatigue monitoring of Chery Omoda 5, and a few others!

Chinese cars need to be tune for Australian drivers. Hopefully, it will get better in the future.

They certainly need to consider the market condition and users as much as the price points.

I was able to turn of lane assist off completely in my Haval H6 Hybrid. I have turned of all the savety features as well. It now drives lovely.

Where are you based? I heard mixed feedback from people saying the same but I'm pretty sure they were in UAE or SA. I think it's government regulated and GWM turns certain features off (such as the ability to turn off ELK permanently) in AU.

@@ValueCarsAU Yes you must be right. I am based in South Africa. We are able to turn off all those annoying safety features here. Basically I have turned off everything and that made such a huge difference in the enjoyment of driving the car. I think all thse fancy tech features that comes with the current new cars is so unnecessary. It takes from the enjoyment of driving.

I drive a mid range Mazda cx8 (2022 Touring) while a mate of mine recently got the Haval H6GT Ultra. That thing is loaded with tech. and is about $13k cheaper than my Mazda. I was quite envious when he showed me the interior and instrumentation. However, the ride handling and comfort of the Mazda is in another class compared to the H6GT. I'm still pretty jealous of what you can get for a 40k car from the Chinese brand.

Completely agree. I've driven - A FEW - Chinese cars lately and all of them offer "more" for a lower price. But the detail, fine-tuning, ride quality is unfortunately on another level (down).

It is an interesting reflection on different cultures and when you consider how geographically close Japan and China are the difference is substantial. Japanese design, in general, is quietly understated.
The Chinese bings and bongs are reminiscent of US cars of the 80-90s.

I certainly don't have a good knowledge of Japanese design, having driven one car out of a massive sample size, but Chinese... I think I had my share of different vehicles and brands to talk about it rather confidently. They are very blingy, shiny, and cost-cutting.

@@ValueCarsAU C'mon Dmitri; you need to clean up your turn of phrase. It should be "blingy, shiny, and cost-cuttingly" 🙃

Nice interesting review Demitri. Subaru knows what people want/demand for their hard earned dollars and Subaru delivers.
Do you know if any Chinese cars enter off road rallies , let alone win any of them.
Sure we all want cheaper cars but not cheap shitty software/materials etc. When ever you drive your lovely Subaru, you'll realise every time how thankful you are for choosing Subaru.
Keep up the variety of reviews and I am impressed with Chinese cars and their improved products they offer.
With Toyota/Honda/Subaru standards, Chinese are getting there, but to live with so many annoying safety features, I would rather buy a late model Japanese.
Next year late 2024, I will decide and buy something. For now, I sit back and enjoy your informative and entertaining , thought provoking shows.

I think there's still place for Chinese cars mate, but no, their quality, finishes, electronics, etc is nowhere near that of Japanese cars and now I'm seeing it with my own eyes... Having said that, give GWM another 5 years (by the time my current one expires) and I'll seriously look at the next gen Tank 400.

Does the outback have wifi? If so can it be turned off permanently.
