I would be perfectly happy to contribute to the reduction of our species if it meant that it would give nature a chance to heal itself from our destruction of it. Who said human beings need to live forever? There have been plenty of species of plants and animals that have gone extinct over many millions of years. Why not humans? If nature had its way, it would have taken us out long ago for our inability to cooperate with it. We created climate change and we did it being fully aware that we were doing it. And we're still doing it. Which is why we will probably self-destruct, go extinct, and take most living things along with us. In the end earth will do what earth does. Maybe something survives to start a new cycle of life, maybe it doesn't. We don't know. And we won't care because we will be gone and earth won't care either because the existence of human beings is but a spec in the timeline of earth's evolution and it doesn't care if we make it or not. And that is the reality of the circle of life. We can, and probably will, destroy the natural world to the extent that it can no longer sustain life. Not just human life, but all life. Because over billions of years nature has created, bit by bit, the complex relationships between all living things that make us all dependent on each other. And when one single thing is taken out of that cycle, or becomes imbalanced, the entire cycle either has to evolve itself around that change or die. The impact human beings are having on this cycle, including our own lives, is causing a chain reaction that at some point will become impossible for us to control or react to in time to do anything but struggle for life. Sounds sad right? Well, it is sad. There is no amount of emoji hearts that could be put into a message that misses the point to make it sound useful.

There is over 100 years between the change in co2 and a change in temperature, anything we do now it’ll be the next generation if not the next generation that sees any results. Wouldn’t it be better just to accept the fact that the world climate is changing and adapt like all species have done throughout the earth long life?
We can start by not buying krill products made from Antarctica Krill. We can speak out about banning krill fishing there. We can stop touring there because despite the claims that people who see it in person have a deeper appreciation for it, it doesn't make them do anything more to help the cause in the end and nothing can undo the damage caused by even one tourist vessel. The makers of this documentary have many more suggestions. But those are the ones that are top of mind for me regarding this video.
It seems impossible that the largest animal in the world has to sustain itself on one of the tiniest animals in the world. I know there is some natural cycle that is far more intricate that what I understand taking place in this exchange, but still, how do these whales get enough of sustain their huge bodies? I thought their bubbles and fin work were pretty clever ways of gathering food, but do they have to do that all day long? How much of their energy stores do they use just to gather that food and is it getting harder to gather enough food in a day with the dwindling supply? And then they have to gain enough weight to travel over 8K km, and I believe they don't eat along the way either, and have babies to tag along! I don't know, seems like a pretty brutal life. These scientists are right to be saying that their ecosystem is fragile enough already without us humans dumping enough problems into it as to literally break the entire cycle. Humans breaking nature. Feels like a crime. I feel guilty just being alive, because I know that my existence, as small as it is, still impacts nature when added to the collective human population. And I don't want to be a participant in the destruction of the marvelous, complex relationships created between every single thing on earth over millions of years of evolution. If thinking about giant whales trying to survive off of kazillions of teeny, tiny krill, that survive off of ice, that is melting because of climate change, that is happening because of human activity, that I am participating in, does not keep one up at night, I don't know what can. Our very existence is reflected in the health of these awesome animals. And I am as guilty as the next person for whatever happens to them. I don't like that feeling. And I do not support the krill fishing that is done in Antarctica either. Really, can we not produce our own krill or live without it? Do we need krill so badly that we are willing to make whales starve for it? Seems like such an easy decision to me.
