As a brit who has lived in the states off and on since uni years on the East Coast I never thought I would live in California but I ended up here. The wondrous outdoors; the mountains, the surf .. where we spend our free time also reminds us of the power of nature. The Santa Ana winds are often beautiful but as you see here they whip wildfires into a frenzy. This is, by far, the worst natural disaster to ever hit California. It is difficult to read negative comments because this is not about the wealthy or the mansions that have burned .. it is about thousands being displaced. There are currently over 70 million displaced refugees on this planet and now there are a few thousand more. LA will rebuild 🙏

The Santa Ana winds were a known risk, especially after such a prolonged dry period. 4. The Pacific Palisaides water reservoir was emptied for maintenance prior to the fires. 5. The mayor cut crucial police and fire department funding leading up to the fires. 6. The California governor and mayor redirected crucial funding to woke DEI and drug programs for unlawful non-citizens, neglecting crucial base services for citizens. 7. Crucial controlled burns and clearings were halted long before the fires, allowing significant build up of natural fuels and significantly faster spreads of the fires. 8. Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass ignored repeated warnings about the wildfire risks and potential consequences for years. 9. Despite the risks, the governor and mayor didn't ensure police, fire and emergency services received training or practice for such an event adding to the chaos. 10. Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass left it far too late to request military and air support; they obviously had no emergency plan for this event.

What is crazy to me is that they're asking the general public for funding to help with this catastrophe which was caused by the CA and US governments not doing their jobs properly. The firefighting emergency pumps EQUIPMENT are in stock at Home Depot & Tractor Supply Co. & the WATER is sat in most of the houses' swimming pools...Homeowners should have been far more prepared to defend their house against the fire by dousing the external surfaces & surrounding landscape with their own precious resource of water supply from their pools.
Firefighters of California sent their buckets and all their hoses to Ukraine. That's why they didn't have enough equipment. Keep up with what's going on. California has been given thousands of dollars to fix the water problem, fire hydrants and the reservoir problem which is dry as a bone except for a little bit of stagnant water, eck where did the money go!

In the months/ years leading up to the fires:
1. Much needed water required to sustain LA was redirected to the Pacific Ocean.
2. LA mayor and California governor were aware of the fire risks already but did nothing: State Farm insurance also knew and cancelled 69% of their customers' policies in Pacific Palisades a year ago due to the wildfire risks.
3. The Santa Ana winds were a known risk, especially after such a prolonged dry period.
4. The Pacific Palisaides water reservoir was emptied for maintenance prior to the fires.
5. The mayor cut crucial police and fire department funding leading up to the fires.
6. The California governor and mayor redirected crucial funding to woke DEI and drug programs for unlawful non-citizens, neglecting crucial base services for citizens.
7. Crucial controlled burns and clearings were halted long before the fires, allowing significant build up of natural fuels and significantly faster spreads of the fires.
8. Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass ignored repeated warnings about the wildfire risks and potential consequences for years.
9. Despite the risks, the governor and mayor didn't ensure police, fire and emergency services received training or practice for such an event adding to the chaos.
10. Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass left it far too late to request military and air support; they obviously had no emergency plan for this event.

What is crazy to me is that they're asking the general public for funding to help with this catastrophe which was caused by the CA and US governments not doing their jobs properly. On top of that, the federal government is sending $8 billion USD to Israel instead of dedicating that money to taking care of its own citizens and developing technologies and education that would stop contributing to climate change. The CA and US governments are responsible for this and need to fully pay for the damages, not the general public who are getting poorer by the minute while the oligarchy gets richer.
