The PanAmerica is a rocket with great suspension and a light, flickable nature. Great bike, as far as I'm concerned and I'm looking forward to some ShadeTree content with this one. Thanks brotha
I'm like you, I ride what i can afford and what i like. Currently parked is my 04 RoadKing. I'm riding an 87 Goldwing that I've chopped and cut on. Basically I have the panniers and cut off the suitcase while putting on a po po air ride seat. The Pan American looks and runs like a great touring bike. All the HP will disappear with panniers and a years worth of worldly travel gear. Those overloaded bike pics traversing the African plains or the Argentinian hills just met the new king of getting out there. Be safe young man, hug your ladies for all the work they do. I have only ever ridden a bike to work one time! I stopped at the next off ramp and told them " I won't be in today" the boss saw me and let me go. It was cool, I had a beautiful day behind bars. Keep the shiny side up! Hoka Hey
I was on the fence about the styling until I saw it in solid colors, and now I love it. I've seen a couple out on the street and they look awesome. I wish they had done it in solid orange instead of orange and white. Maybe it looks better in person. I'm glad you were able to get one to test!
I understand why H-D released the Pan America, it’s really about appealing to a new customer base and selling to younger riders. From a business and marketing standpoint, I get it. This is a high performance, utilitarian motorcycle that was built to perform and eat up a ton of miles and have alot of adventures on.
Danny J. Rumbles, this is just my opinion...and you know what they say about opinions... I am an old guy. (50) Have been riding Harleys since the early 90's. I have owned a Panhead now for about 23 years. And a couple Shovelheads. I have owned modern Harleys and own one now. If I had the money to do it, without selling the bikes that I own, I would buy a Livewire and one of these Pan America's. I love the history of Harley, and this is just another page.
The drive modes also effect the ABS and TC algorithms. You might be able to control your wrist for rain but stopping and sliding no. Modes are good. And if you hate them there's always the custom driver modes you can tune and just leave
I’m 240 lbs and I own a Pan Am Special. I created a custom mode. Full throttle control, full power, minimal nannies, off-road suspension setting.…Damn this bike is fast and unruly.
You will have to try the KING of dad-jeans bikes, the BMW GS, you said that you have ridden the RS but I tested both and that "Telelever" suspension gives the GS a whole different feel, hammer those brakes until the ABS has to step in and the front will not dive, it just doesn't... Also doesn't have the horsepower of the Harley, and I never thought I would say that.
A sportbike for fat guys! I never thought about it, but it really is, isn't it? All it needs is a sport fairing and street tires! Great video, I'm looking forward to seeing more of you on the Dirt Glide. I used to do intermediate trails((NOT trials!) on a Road King I bobbed and modded into a terrible ADV, and my friend's Pan Am is a whole different world. Let me get the important part out of the way: The Pan America 1250 doesn't sound like an air-cooled 45 degree OHV twin, and it doesn't feel like one either. It doesn't say potato at idle or gas out at 5000rpm or rattle your hands numb at any point, but in some intangible way it still sounds like a Harley-Davidson... Don't get me wrong, it hits all the same buzzy high notes as an Aprilia or a Ducati, but it still says BRUUUUUUUUUUUMP when all the rest say BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAP! Indian Scouts and FTRs do the same thing, but not as distinctly, more of an O tone. Seriously though, here's my review if it only takes 500 miles to form an opinion: It doesn't ride like a Harley unless you're used to another ADV, but its definitely the Harley of ADVs-plush, smooth, great to cruise on, more road focused than the BMWs and KTMs of the world and a little flimsy in spots(?!) but it's ridiculously comfortable and confidence inspiring. That's what he says, anyway-for me it might as well have been a fricking EBR! It was sporty and a little bit aggressive on the road, REALLY easy to maneuver slow and fast and not so much eager to go off-road as it was completely fine with it, whatever you wanna do bro! It slid big old loopy figure eights with ease, it jumped a bit(It wasn't really feeling my Evel Knievel act, but it made it through), it didn't mind getting a little splashy-and I was worried, there's some important electrical stuff under the front of that skidplate! I left desperately wishing I could afford one, but I can wait four or five years for somebody to get tired and my pockets to fatten up. Now, if you'll excuse me, I gotta go rebuild this Road King I dropped down the side of a hill. Don't worry, it wasn't the steep side!
I took a PanAm for a short test ride, about 15 miles, just to throw a leg over one and see if it fit. I am a little shorter at 5'9" with boots on, and I really liked this thing. The power felt so good, and the handling was exactly what I want. And yes, those brakes are no joke, I am coming from a 1989 Honda Transalp, and my main concern with that bike is my brakes. I don't have confidence that they will stop me in a real emergency. The only things I didn't like about the PanAm were the footpegs and the screen UI. The UI took a little getting used to while I was waiting for my test ride to start, didn't feel as intuitive as a KTM or Honda. The footpegs felt like they were wayyy too far back and tilted forward, almost more sport bike like. The footpegs made it hard to stand without feeling like you were leaning over the windshield, and sitting it felt like it was trying to push me forward. Leaning back to keep my body upright felt weird. My thoughts are this: I think I would rather still have the PanAm rather than a BMW or KTM because of the Harley Dealer network. If I ever had a problem there is someone who knows Harleys probably nearby. My only real issue holding me back is the engine, with it being so new and a HUGE departure from what HD has always done. I am happy with my Transalp still, and I really want something bigger for long highway runs, but I don't like the size of most of the other current offerings. I am also thinking of keeping the Transalp as my "dirtbike" and just getting a Goldwing, I figure Josh approves ;).
I’ve been waiting for this! The old Wee Strom is approaching 150k and I’ve got the itch for an American bike. That effortless wheelie makes me happy. Ride well brother, looking forward to seeing some miles on it.
I love it, I am 5'7" tall with the Pan America Special suspension and the seat in the lower position I and on the balls of my feet, not to far from being able to stand flat footed. I think the reach/lower seat they offer would make it a perfect fit for me. looking forward to your long term review.
ADV bikes do a lot of things right. They are comfortable, they come with a lot of modern tech and you can put enough cases and boxes on'em to have them as touring machines.
i test rode one and I liked it a lot. Very comparable to my Africa Twin as far as rider position. I did have a lot more power, I didn't like it so much that I would want to trade.
Finally got to view one at our local dealer, wow! I liked it, and a ton of older guys viewed it as well, (over 50)( I'm nearly there lol) looking forward to a ride.
Currently I have a vstrom, a dyna street bob and a DRZ400s. Have had sport bikes and other cruisers and dual sports but the adv bikes are my favourite. But I love my Harley.
I don't know if anyone told you about the active ride height but yeah look that up. I got a "short term demo" from a friend who works at a dealer let me drive one for a day and I love the pan america.
I LOVE the Pan American....just wish I could afford one.....kind of disappointed they didn't unveil an affordable little brother alongside it, for us po folk and/or beginner adventure riders 😂 When I saw it was just the Pan American, I had to go with a Royal Enfield Himalayan....and I am NOT disappointed....I don't really do the highway much, if at all....so it made more sense.....I will tell ya this....IF I lived in Florida or Texas, and NOT Upstate NY.....I would most definitely have considered one....a little too much money for PT riding...I'd need all 12 months for that price....LOL...
I admit, I hated the very idea of the PanAm and swore no one would like it....then it came out, and I got see one in person and take it for a ride. Now I love it and totally want one!
I like it except for the white-nose on it. They should paint the nose to match the tank! It looks unfinished. It looks like a great bike for around town I think I would take the newer Goldwing over it for a long trip. Overall looks like a nice useful bike. I am 65 and almost your size, and I would take it offroad as soon as I got the chance! Head for the hills! LOL! Thanks for sharing! Take care and God bless you all. David
I also hate rider modes and too much tech on a bike(yes I ride a goldwing shhh). Shadetree and I are close in age so we probably share pretty similar opinions on the subject (born December of '86). We can put all the tech in cars and trucks but leave the motorcycle simple and pure-ish.
the Surgeon gets an adventure bike, drives straight to Davis Island! Love the video. I'm seriously considering getting a Pan America. Ask Berts if they have a set of sports panniers.
Finally, a modern bike from HD that seems to run smooth. Just hope it will deliver the goods on the reliability side of things as HDs are notoriously known to be unreliable compared to other major brands.
Josh, I rode the “Dirt Glide” down here in Fort Myers and found it to be a good time, the only negative on the bike was the heat off of the engine and missing the auto shifter up and down. I liked the bike but still prefer my 2018 GS 1200, better balance and not nearly as hot on the legs. It is a however a vast improvement over all other HD’s. Now the thing I hated, the Rockstar HD dealer was jacking the cost by $5,000 and lowballed my “potential trade”. So if you can get one for MSRP or with a small discount you will have made a great deal.
The Dirt Glide ... right? That's exactly what I thought when they started to talk about it a while ago! I know everyone's gonna call it that - Harley should just acquiesce now. Love it!
Dirt glide you better trade mark that shade tree, from different reviews there’s setting on the bike to lower the suspension when coming to a stop , I would adjust it, it’s gotta be in the computer control system

Hoka Hey
Berts has the best dealerships in the country, awesome people there!
I was on the fence about the styling until I saw it in solid colors, and now I love it. I've seen a couple out on the street and they look awesome. I wish they had done it in solid orange instead of orange and white. Maybe it looks better in person. I'm glad you were able to get one to test!
I am all about this bike and so excited to see your experience with it before I can get mine!
@@PanM8 , I understand you point, I’ll be 52 on August 18th, and it’s well taken. I’m also happy that someone finally replied to me.
That's a great bike. Lowers and raises when you stop. Beautiful for us short folk.
The drive modes also effect the ABS and TC algorithms. You might be able to control your wrist for rain but stopping and sliding no. Modes are good. And if you hate them there's always the custom driver modes you can tune and just leave
The perfect replacement for the Ducati😉
Love the ending of this one!... And keeping it weird is what ya do..... because "normal" seems so boring🤘
The timing is perfect. The Pan American came along just as the trend towards smaller lighter ADV bikes is gaining momentum.
"bike go fast, bike make wheelie, bike do sound, i like bike" - this is by far the best thing i've heard as a 'bike review' :)))
If you were sitting on it when you start it. It has height adjustment tech. It adjusts to your height
I love it, I am 5'7" tall with the Pan America Special suspension and the seat in the lower position I and on the balls of my feet, not to far from being able to stand flat footed. I think the reach/lower seat they offer would make it a perfect fit for me. looking forward to your long term review.
I don't like HD much, but I do like the look and sound of this bike.
4:36 - "Riding this bike feels Supernatural to me!" Shadetree used his sweet Swamp Wizard Powers to turn himself into Offroad Ghost Rider!!!! YEAH!!!
I LOVE the apocalyptic urban assault look of em, 150hp, off road capable, awesome brakes. Good job HD. I want one.
ADV bikes do a lot of things right. They are comfortable, they come with a lot of modern tech and you can put enough cases and boxes on'em to have them as touring machines.
Best, most honest, first impression ive heard yet. Chey makin sure everyone at Black Widow knew she thinks its ugly was hysterical.
She does NOT hold back 😂
I actually like that bike and im thinking very seriously on getting one, so who cares about people hating on it what matters is what you like 👍🏼
i test rode one and I liked it a lot. Very comparable to my Africa Twin as far as rider position. I did have a lot more power, I didn't like it so much that I would want to trade.
Love the Pan American ! Thanks for featuring the bike .
Gotta love the lime scoots all kicked over. Idk why people hate those and birds so much 😂
I admit, I hated the very idea of the PanAm and swore no one would like it....then it came out, and I got see one in person and take it for a ride. Now I love it and totally want one!
I can relate to that riding in and not wanting to stop. Daily life struggle when you live on 2 wheels.
Finally Shadetree can embrace the dadbike life but still be a REAL BIKER on a Harley.
Nobody:
Ye ole Shadetree: loses voice after shouting ALL THE TIME.
YES!! I.ve been waiting for the unfiltered shadetree pan america review!
The Pan America looks great. I like the way HD is going 😺
I hope that this bike and the new sportster sell well. If only so that the Bronx gets a chance at seeing the light of day!
the Surgeon gets an adventure bike, drives straight to Davis Island! Love the video. I'm seriously considering getting a Pan America. Ask Berts if they have a set of sports panniers.
Test ride one! I traded in a 2018 CBR1000rr for a Pan Am. Super fun bike
Finally, a modern bike from HD that seems to run smooth. Just hope it will deliver the goods on the reliability side of things as HDs are notoriously known to be unreliable compared to other major brands.
Best orator on TH-cam could listen to you talk day
I like the look of the bike. I’m looking forward to see how people mod them out
Even if you didn't like this video(I did) its worth watch till the end. Glorious. Hope you have a swift recovery brother.
Love it!
Car at 15:33 is a lotus evora
Dirt glide you better trade mark that shade tree, from different reviews there’s setting on the bike to lower the suspension when coming to a stop , I would adjust it, it’s gotta be in the computer control system
Shadetree: Love this bike, great brakes!
Also Shadetree: No way officer, that light was pink!
LOL! Great review.
I test road one of them a few weeks ago and it’s amazing, just look at all those buttons lol
Shadetree Hawking was the best part. Nicely done!
I am sure you figured out by now that the bike lowers at every stop , if you employ that mode. Check it out! Love your content and vids! Thank you !
I'm not sure I like that bike, but I like that you have it.
Did you stop by kohl's and get some white new balance shoes and wrangler denim pants that are inch too short?
