tl;dw: Look into this mastery if you're doing anything hit-based with ele damage. Mark on hit is an excellent 2-link option for attack-based builds that reserves no mana (but still uses the mana cost of the mark!) for automating this tech btw
btw in the equation incase it wasn't obvious (to be fair I edited it out); the calculation for our final total damage output was 20,000 assuming the inversion mastery procced;
10,000 + 50% more (enemy's resistance is -50% due to inversion) + another 50% more (from our pen) = 20000

Penetration Stacking as well as Resistance Shredding would have much less effect with this node since Penetration has more power against higher resistance values. With this node we invert resistances every 1 in 4 hits respectively putting them into the Negative range. Meaning the more resistances a monster has the more effective this node is with little to no Penetration Scaling in fact stacking Penetration with this node would hurt DPS. (This is one of the reasons I hate POB because this can easily be tested and proven to be the case in game because of how Penetration and -Res works mechanically which POB does not reflect correctly much like many other mechanics.)
It's almost like a mini Inquisitor Node as in you don't need Resistance Shred OR Penetration because it gives this node less power. Only difference is this Node makes it where the more Resistances you can give monsters the more effect it has.
This is why Inquisitor is one of the most powerful Elemental Scaling Ascendancy's because you don't need Pen or -Res scaling you can focus on nothing but, Crit and other scaling to maximize damage.

Can you verify this to me with a link to a dev interview? I have not been able to find concrete evidence supporting this to be the actual case of how pen works with minus resistances.

@@WiredGuitars I think what this person is saying is that there's diminishing returns for penetration the lower the resistance an enemy has. Having a 10% pen on a monster with 99 res would give u a 19x multiplier on damage vs only a 1.1x multiplier on a monster with 0 res. Wrt the mastery, while pen doesn't directly reduce the monsters resistance, it has significantly less value when the monster's resistance is inverted. So in that sense, while not as bad as reducing the monsters res, there is still anti synergy between the mastery and pen.

@@mashedtomato7732 your analysis is correct in-that penetration stacking follows a linear formula which produces diminishing returns at higher values, and if POB incorrectly inflates the damage provided to not account for this then I would be inclined to agree.

I believe so as DD is a hit and cares about elemental resistances. I think you'd use assassin's mark for the crit scaling as suggested in the vid, but tbh I haven't played DD of chain reaction so I'm not sure which non-res curse you'd use
