They missed a trick not putting a customisable mech in the game for traversing wide open areas.
DLC, like F4 robots
@@Lostflipper24 I never played Fallout 4 but one of those massive bastards you see wrecked everywhere would be great.
Or even a little mech like the one from MGS5 so you don’t have to walk everywhere would be great.
mechs are illegal in starfield
@@yomother134 yes, they wrote them out of the lore because they were too lazy to put them in the game.
@@darkchild130 or they didnt have enough time
Wait... They wrote battlemechs into the game and then wrote them out before the game actually started? Classic Bethesda.
It sounds like this war was so big it would've been the main focus of both factions. Like Most People will either be dead, in the army, or in a factory. It would've lead to boring side quest probably.
I would of liked to see more of an aftermath aswell, traveling to more forgotten battlefields
@@clpfox470you can actually i forgot in which planet but there is one where there are destroyed mechs and a shop disassembling the mechs for scrap
@@lancelotx1279Niira
@@lancelotx1279 wish there was more than just the one
Mechs are more ethical because they have an off button, silly UC. Also they are my children, my sweet big stompy children 😌
I agree. However in my head cannon mechs were banned because of the sheer firepower they can be outfitted with. Say one or a handful of mech with WMDs that can clear an entire city by themselves
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they were banned for the ungodly amount of stuff you can put on them
It's funny considering how much more effective ships would be, too. If you can make a small mech, you could easily build a small ship with the same firepower. Or just bombard a target from orbit.
@@Hawk7886that is true, from a purely tactical point of view.
Ships can't take land, tho: you need boots (whether actual or metaphorical, like a mech's stompy feet xD) on the ground for that
Mechs make the best family
In unrelated news, there has been a sudden mass-migration of Mechwarrior players to the Freestar Collective. 😂
Nice video! I'd love to be able to experience the Colony War like we were able to simulate Operation Anchorage in Fallout 3
Hey they do have a space simulator at vanguard hq, maybe a mech sim could be added as a dlc
@@net343 good call! Maybe we could get a simulator from both the UC and Freestar Perspective
When Barrett pulls his twin from another universe, that Barrett’s universe is still fighting the colony war 20 years later. I was hoping there would be a NG+ universe where we can go to his universe and fight in the colony war.
@@syzygy5271 dlc potential
Great vid - I thought I had this covered in the Vangaurd intro mission, but compiling more details and context in this format is soooo much better. Thank you!
Great video! almost wish the game took place during the Colony War. Would’ve been awesome to see the action like Skyrim had Stormcloaks vs imperials.
Unfortunately, the game can't really deal with large battles. You start seeing a lot of jank once you throw in enough characters. Maybe future DLC could do something like Anchorage.
@@Hawk7886glad I bought the premium edition that will give me the dlc for free
@@osamaKareem2You don't know what the word "free" means, do you?
@@Lorenzo_I. any dlc will come with premium edition so it will be not technically free
@@osamaKareem2what you've actually done is paid more than we did for the base game and have yet to receive an upside. Truly you must have a very large brain
I've seen a lot of people get butthurt about the UC declaring war over a 'silly farm'.
Guys, that's not just a farm. You need people to work it, infrastructure to support it, ships to supply it. If its flying Freestar colors, that's a colony, AKA a violation of the Treaty. The UC tried to resolve it diplomatically. The Collective pushed them away without even trying to compromise.
That's war.
There is blame on both sides IMO, neither side is blameless for the war. UC was right that this was a violation of the treaty but they also were sure they could win the next war and seemed to have a hardline view of the action. The Freestar Collective obviously needed the food and wasn't going to back down from the negotiations.
Both sides thought they could beat the other and both sides were wrong.
Clearly the negotiation table needed more Chunks. People don't think right when they're hungry
Another thing to remember: it's around this time that the Settled Systems is facing a food shortage crisis - which led to using the Aceles as livestock, and harvesting them to near-extinction. That kind of crisis makes the Freestars' obstinacy over the Vesta farmland make much more sense.
I would love a Mech DLC, where you can build one on your own.
I dunno some heavy alien attack happened and because of that they need to reactivate mechs to destroy it. Maybe some rare alien species or whatever.
Would be so dang cool. And it would make planetary exploration better too, because you're faster.
I hope a new war pops off in a DLC. Same with a house Varuun story
I love the two major factions. Both the UC and FC aren't totally evil but not perfect either.
It’s a lot more realistic than the good vs evil narrative we get in a lot of games. You can rationalize siding with both factions depending on your character
@@immersivecomics1603 That’s one thing this game did better then previous Bethesda games. Both factions feel like the good guys. You get to get a feel for both unlike picking the lesser of two evils.
I have characters on both sides I can’t wait for the second colony war That inevitably is going to happen
The uc is inarguably worse.
I've finished both faction quests and honestly the shit the uc have pulled vastly outweighs the freestars actions
@@KwikWon01 We just don't know the full extent of what the freestar did. We learn a lot about the xenowarfare but not the mech warfare. I'm sure there's reasons it was bad along side xenos. Not to mention the freestar convicted no one while there's a high likelihood of some of their high level leaders committed crimes.
Glad to see you cover Starfield lore as well, keep it up I say! Ad astra!
I may be the only one with this opinion, but I kinda wish we WEREN'T able to join every faction in the game. Doesn't really make sense to that you're able to join the Vanguard and the Freestar Rangers seeing how they're opposing military factions, or join the Rangers and the Crimson Fleet because i feel like someone would recognize me as part of those factions, I understand that it's nice not being tied down, but I personally like role playing lol
I'm with you there.
Just limit yourself
so dont.. join them...??
The BattleTech nerd in me almost squee'd when I first entered the mech factory. I almost feel robbed of an experience by mechs not being actively in the game. Oh well. At least I still have the ship builder.
mods will probably add them at some point, considering we had titanfall mechs in New vegas.
It’ll be simple , use the mech models in game, create a skeleton for it, use the robot animations for it.
I can almost guarantee that some future DLC will contain both mechs and alien combat pets to fight against an alien threat.
I also expect multiplayer in the future, it just makes sense to expand on their success to make starfield a household name, so hang in their.
The reason I believe this is Bethesda stated they intend to expand starfield and support it well into the future, that guarantees the mechs and zeno warfare, in a future DLC, the multiplayer is just my theory since many people like playing with their freinds, and if BGS wants to capitalize on this success they will need to incorporate that aspect just like conan exiles did.
Where’s the Mech factory located?
@@nobodyherepal3292 Nira I think but dont hold me too it.
Great video! I don't think a games lore has sucked me in as much as Starfield since Mass Effect!
I find myself talking to everyone and exploring everywhere just because the world feels so realised
As always, thanks for the great video.
Thank you! while i picked up some and there in the game and read the time line they gave us, it's still overwelming (for me then) So im verry greatfull that you made this. Its a lot easier to remember when someone talks about it i found out. So again thanks 💜
There is a lot of hidden lore. Can’t wait to see more from you on it. Respect for holding off til more people experience it in the game.
Great vid, loving this lore
Awesome vid, I love more indepth looks into the lore or past of games or shows.
Now I know why mech parts are contraband. Neat!

I really enjoyed this type of lore on the game. As someone who has not been able to purchase the game yet, this is exactly what I'm looking for. An understanding without spoilers.

Good Video. Do more!
I'm surprised no one smuggled a nuke into the enemy major cities or detonated starship engines or something similar.
tbf I think that ties in to mechs and why they were banned post war, Essentially they appear to me to be combat platforms designed to being star-ship scale weaponry to a ground based conflict, Who needs nukes when you have several hundred walkers with quad barrel star ship calibre railguns on each arm?
I suppose, but take into account that humanity itself is kind of in a precarious situation, especially earlier in the timeline. There has to be at least some common fear on both sides of escalating a conflict with wmds that might wipe out our refugee species as a whole. In that context, the banning of mechs and xenoweapons, does make sense, even before going as far as nuclear weapons, at least as long as one side isn't convinced they can secure a clear and decisive victory.
I still remeber i was walkng through the UC museum and then stopped and wa slike i will wait for a youtube lore video...... and here i am
Give more give more , Yes yes awesome content
thanks for the great work!
i am suprised that they was no use of atomic weapons in the wars.
Here for more SF content! Thanks friend!
Hard to believe the freestar defeated the uc, just by looking at their cities and military
Is it though, just look at what the UC did to one of their most major cities. A major metropolis, maybe larger then New Atlantis, left as an infect icy tomb.
No, it makes 100x more sense. Decadent western countries are basically helpless while semi-developed nations like Russia and China outgun them 10 times over. America is the only western nation with a real military and you don't find spineless urbanites in it, you find southerners and cowboys from the poorer regions.
Remember londinion? That’s one reason why the UC lost
Honestly, I don’t feel anything for either of them. Both come across as massively incompetent. Neither side ever seems to want a war, but they seem to get dragged into it by the plot. There is no sense that any politicians or even humans are involved in these conflicts. They just sort of happen because there needs to be a war in the background.
It doesn’t really even make sense because in universe earth has just fallen, surely at this point, it’s a collection of scattered desperate colonies, trying to live on Hostel alien worlds. FSC doesn’t even look like it could fight a war. It’s capital city is a shantytown. Meanwhile, the UC has a hyper advance industrialise city.
@@psal8715 it wasn’t really one of their major cities. It was a trading and supply outpost that at first had a small civilian population. I think the are we see of the event is perhaps taking a little bit of dramatic license. Anyway, the rest of the UC even before the wiping out of New London. Is an actual developed modern state. Meanwhile, the three star collective is essentially an outlaw Republic.
Doing Starfield also? Yes! You rock😊🎉
More starfield lore please!!
Man Id love a DLC for the Colony Wars
Guarantee you there’s going to be a second colony war just hope it’s a really massive dlc
They always hyping like a war up in every game that previous had one. cyberpunk 2077 lore talks about the corporate war and how it affected the entire world and mostly nightcity but if you hear from other NPC and side quest that there might be another Corp war happening
LOL I watched like 2 minutes of it thinking "I don't recognize any of this..." before I realized it was Star FIELD not CITIZEN. Whoops !
Still doing Star Citizen lore stuff, in fact doing a video for next week as we speak, just diversifying out a bit more than just Star Citizen Lore.
@@TheAstroHistorianhope to see more starfield as well! Great video
Thanks
I hope they make a dlc for starfield were another war starts and we can pick a side to fight for👍
I'm getting Starcraft vibes from the UC given its willingess to use xenomorphs the same way the Terran Confederacy tried to use the Zerg when they first found them. I mean for heavens sake, they should have easily been able to one up the Freestar Collective in mech warfare, why even consider xenomorphs!? There is nothing even remotely humane about such tactics and one can only imagine how many more complications can arise from using xenomorphs than machines.
Edit After Video: They got LOOOSE!!? Whose heads are rolling for that screw up???

The lore makes it seem like millions died in these wars. But I go to the UC war memorial I see like 20 names of the dead 😑
They say on the memorial that over 30k people fought on the UC side. I believe those 20 names are representative of the whole.
@@TheAstroHistorian only 30k? The lore makes mention of the whole galaxy being involved. No way it was only 30k. Maybe 30k in the fleet considering most ships can only house 8 people. That would be accurate since around that number is how many Airmen died for the US over Europe in WW2.
@@MalcrowAlogoranStarfield story unfolds in small part of the orion arm. Like 50 light year sphere around Sol system.
@@MalcrowAlogoran Sci fi writers are bad at understanding scale. In Warhammer 40k the largest Ork invasion ever was defeated by less people than the amount that fought in WW2. Add a few zeros to most numbers given in Sci Fi.
Does the game give better justification on why mechs were banned, because I'm really having a hard time coming up with a reason why that would ever happen
I suspect that Freestar offered it as a compromise to get bioweapons banned.
I assume the freestars had to give them up in return for the UC giving up their beasties
Both sides military were severely weaken in term of equipment and quantity. Having mechs around might cause tension.
Why are cluster bombs, white phosphorus, poison bullets, etc illegal in real life? Because limiting the killing power of militaries will always be a primary goal of diplomats.
"If I can't have my toy, you can't have yours" works quite well when the toys in question are super weapons xD
It would be cool if they bought mechs back for a dlc (They could just behave like sized up FO4 Power armour) Maybe House Varuun come back with mechs to war the settled systems or something like that
Still remember fighting the 1st ah how fun those impact grenades where…
I'd hoped we might have the ability to construct custom mechs vasco sized. Maybe one day. There's so many possibilities for them.
I trully believe that bethesda wanted us to pilot mechs and customize them to travel on planets but it was either too late or it would break the game and wouldn't work.
I would not be surprised if one of the dlcs we get in the future is a mech dlc
I'd love an anchorage style dlc where we get to fight in the war
Your channels about to explode.
I hope we can have mechs in the future
I want to know more about the adoring fan :)
so far ive made both a freestar character and UC and so far i believe the UC is the better of the two and thoo i disagree with many methods used by the UC they were ultimately not the main aggressors in the original conflict and the UC was hit much harder with most of its higher command and military striped and put in jail. compared to the free star collective who kept much of its command structure intact
and in the post war the freestar collective has been much more openly aggressive towards the UC (the embassy staff for example doing anything they can to be hostile, the clinic staff boasting about how it use to be a UC station) whereas the UC seems to be more open to putting the past in the past.
missed opportunity for a boss mech
Honestly, what Im most curious about in Starfield are how the various starship manufacturers came about - and why Nova Galactic was abandoned.
I have a theory, but i dont know if theres anything official about the subject.
Yea man great vid. Without giving too much away in terms of story. I married Sarah Morgan. I had to take her to the memorial to..mourn. was one of the coolest video game experiences i have had.
Yeah like I said in the video there are A LOT of veterans from the war. There is a mech pilot in the settlement of Gagarin who talks about what it's like to pilot a mech and another quest line where you meet a UC hero of the war who talks about how shitty her experience was.
more star field lore
To think if the starborn loved challenge, they'd search for the artifacts during the war and not after in a time of "one piece era"
5:38 😢😢😢Shame we can't buy, create, or drive one of the mech
Hopefully someone mods them in or bethesda makes em a dlc
Explains as well my mech parts are contraband
Something I hate about Bethesda games (I am a huge Bethesda fan) is I feel like the write such cool stories and events. Like a game set during the colony war would be such a fun concept/setting. Similar to how before the events of Skyrim was the Great War between the Empire and Aldemeri Dominion.
They better put mechs in a DLC or something
id be shocked if they did not, especially with people bitching about no land vehicles in the game and certain mechs could be built for speedy movement
@@immaswordthey probably are working on ideas for that, but definitely need to be limited cause can’t bring mechs everywhere you know?
@@GokuBlackRose978 yeah most likely no mechs in most cities or interiors unless specifically designed and added to allow for them, maybe also mech based arena fights and/or races could be added
@@immasword that’s a great idea! What if they made a questline that has to do with mech arena? That definitely would be neon/crimson pirate type of quest.
Bethesda still remain the kings at making new lore.
huge missed opportunity not making a multiverse in new game plus that explores deeper on this subject. imagine a normalish world where the only thing that’s different is you have the opportunity to not only participate in the colony war but change the outcome depending on the faction you joined
I am expecting us to get those huge riding mechs in a dlc in the future! Fighting huge worm like monsters
lmao
@@sneaky5141 What I'm just stating facts Bethesda have the history of doing this showing us things in the main game but not allowing us to have it till a future DLC

Kind of a bummer that you don’t really get to see the infrastructure and civilization of any of the factions. You have your capital city and then outside that it’s just abandoned outposts every 500 meters in every direction. Surely New Atlantis isn’t the only city on the planet? Where were the Freestar Collective making all their mechs? The scale just seems so off

Can you visit the city that the terramorphs attacked?
Yes
In the vanguard quest line you eventually go there... its a fun place
I'll start by saying I've enjoyed Starfield, despite its' limitations.
I'm happy to never see another mech/giant robot/Transfomer in anything for the next three decades. I'd also like to have seen Starfield turn out to be less "America in Space"; its' meant to be all pf humanity out there!
Bethesda's understanding of anything military is marginal at best. There's no apparent difference between civilian and military vessels, regardless of the faction. In fact, military technology is identical to civilian technology! Virtually any part is available for sale to any civilian captain, the UC is even happy for Vanguard weaponry to be used in the service of the Freestar Rangers!
There's seemingly little understanding of the chain of command or the effect of doctrine on force design. Basic understanding of doctrine could have made the UC and FSC quite different from each other (in practical terms, not just in lore).
As a result of these choices, and probably system limitations, their military forces always feel more like a company instead of an army, or more like a rag-tag collection of ships than a navy.
it's the titan wars for titanfall but shit
The cataclysmic conflict that killed like 30k people. What a letdown.
You’re not Paul Shelly I’m Paul Shelly.
The lore just feels really badly written, it seems to have had an end goal of creating a universe, where freelancing was a viable option. But all the things connecting those events feel very contrived.
The fact that both sides don’t really seem to ever be capable or willing to go to war, but both do repeatedly is just a bit baffling when you remember that they are both either republics, or at least some form of democracy.
Why are Mech bad by both sides considering they’re not really that powerful. It’s basically like a tank with legs. Bio weapons. I can kind of see both sides, not wanting. But Mechs especially on the FSC side apparently didn’t do much considering they suffered 95% casualties. Which is by the way really fucking stupid no realistic military would consider even fighting past 25% combat losses unless it’s counting, captures and surrenders as casualties. Both just come across as cartoonish and ungrounded in a universe way we are meant to get invested in the factions.
Space cowboys over star feds every single day
The more you learn about the UC, the more they seem like the baddies.
Wait. Did anyone use nukes?
Not that I know of but I wouldn't be surprised.
Personally I’d rather fight along side xenos then be in a mech
Lmao UC makes the ultimate killing machines, so the fair agreement is to also ban walking tanks.
I mean UC lost the war, sounds pretty generous to me
Im FSC for life, give me unlimited freedom over authoritarianism any day.
Anyone that wants to see the real UC just go to the well in new atlantis and talk to the doctor, hell they even talk about brownouts in the well. Thats indicative of a teired society with a slave cast kept out of public purview.
Its the age old debate of safety and security vs unchecked freedom, even the final rewards are examples of this debate. The Uc questline gives you class 1 citizenship and a big apartment with all the luxuries, meanwhile the FSC gives you a top of the line ship, a mobile home in space, and a nice outfit.
The FSC doesnt have a class system and you dont see a cop on every corner like you do in all UC systems.
Theres simply no comparison, I will take dangerous freedom over slavery and conformity any day of the week.
Vae Victus probably did a lot of awful things.
So of course he got convicted for definitely making the right call on Londinion, and of a war crime absolutely committed by the FC.
He did absolutely right decision in Londinion. If the UC bring the fleet to evacuate Londinion civilians then war would have been lost, and after this Freestar would been take the best xenowarfare weapon in the Settled Systems
