      I don't know much about her politics, but for promoting NZ internationally she is doing a great job. My family is considering going there next year for vacation (if epidemic is over). She was on Colbert and he went to NZ where she picked him up at the airport. They made it seem like she had no security, but I'm sure she must have. Really cool was they were stopped at a traffic light and people in the next car yelled "Hi!". Colbert asked him or her. They answered "Jacinda!". Could you imagine sitting in traffic and next to you is your PM! How cool would that be. She really seems like a down to earth person. Just like this clip shows.

      That's really not the problem. Once people get their hands on those types of pejorative terms, they just fling them as they wish. Considering human nature, they tend to land some solid hits often enough, but almost as often, they lob them around carelessly at people who have nothing, at all, to do with the associated concept.
      .
      They don't use the terms as labels for certain ideologies or such, they use them to scapegoat any and all who don't agree. Right-wingers and left-wingers both do it in absolutely equal measure. Although, ironically, because the right-wing epithets tend more toward one's physical characteristics, they're actually far better at applying them accurately. While the left tends to just sling them indiscriminately (which would make sense, I guess) at any and all whom they don't like...which, like the right, is really just anyone not part of the club.

      The opposition leader isn't as progressive and is more skeptical of the welfare approach that Jacinda is particularly fond of, but at least they aren't traditional US right wing level conservative and deliver their promises quickly and consistently for the most part. The "Deceivers", first released by the BioTech division of the Nature Corp., are programmed to smile in your face while stabbing you in the back (in this case figuratively). The base model "Karen" comes equipped with the ability to cry on command and play the victim when exposed to be at fault, this "Karen" she is a crafty one however transparent. While quick to point out perceived faults in others, this "Karen" achieves astounding levels of hypocrisy by her employment of a defense technique known as projection. Her criticisms of others often betray her, incapable of self reflection due to lack of moral framework, this "Karen" has employed projection to put her character flaws and personality defects on full public display of those she intends to deceive.
      At the end "Karen" withdrew her point of order citing "I thought it would be cruel."
      She lied. Her point of order would have worked against her. If she withdrew due to moral reasons she would not have said it was cruel implying Jacinda is deserving of ridicule and placing "karen" in the appearance of a moral high ground ( while inadvertently exposing she had planned to be intentionally cruel, it was only at the last second she recognized the self betrayal and withdrew.

      Basically her opposition tried to say that Jacinda’s new hate speech law would make it illegal to be called a Karen. Jacinda said not only is that not true but that she’s sorry to the opposition leader, Judith, that her new law would not protect her from being called exactly that, a Karen 😂

    • @georgina-a
      @georgina-a 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jacinda Ardern (dark hair) is the Prime Minister of New Zealand. Judith Collins (blonde hair) is leader of the opposition in the NZ government.
      Ardern is trying to bring in a new law against racism. Collins (who is pretty right wing) was objecting and reading statements from others who were also objecting. However, Collins had also posted on Twitter that the new laws would make it illegal to call someone a "Karen", which was completely untrue. Ardern called her out on it and then apologised that the law would not stop people calling Collins a Karen (essentially calling her a Karen in a classy way, without resorting to name-calling).
      It showed off Ardern's intelligence, called Collins what she is (she's a right wing populist with a lot of hate in her) & also showed up Collins because she had no come-back whatsoever.
      If you're not sure what a Karen is, then Google it - you're in for a treat...
      Hope that helps, OP 😎

      @@georgina-a The law isn't specifically about racism. It outlaws speech which incites violence against a group.

      @@shoutatthesky My explanation was simplified for someone who doesn't speak English as a first language. Whilst "racism" may not be the nuanced answer, it's an adequate summation of what you've described - at least for the purposes of my comment.

    The opposition leader was very wise to stop herself from the self-fulfilling Karen prophecy of making a big comeback. However if she was even smarter, she would have taken it on the chin, smiled and said something to the effect of “point of order, nice Zinger Madam Prime Minister” So that she looked like a good sport and was in on the joke
