You forget about us old geezer hunters. Our bodies are too broken down to be packing around and shopting those magnums of our youth. The 243 is good to 400 yards, and it doesn't beat the snott out of us in the process. And by now, one shot is good enough. Thanks for the vid.
Exactly one day after I told one of your fellow YT contributors that I was not a fan of anything Henry produces I stumbled up on this video. Hmmmm, in .45-70 Govt. I might be interested in this one since it would fill a hole created when a friend of mine, now sadly deceased, talked me out of a H&R "Handi-rifle" in that caliber.
@furmanmackey5479 like my friend trent said in the video, easy to clean, easy to manage, and overall just a great handy gun!! I'd check one out if u get the opportunity!!
@@huntershaven I plan to! Henry products are not big sellers in our area but if all else fails I'll order one in .45-70, have a local gunsmith mount a scope on it, and call it money well spent on a deer and hog rifle once I get it sighted in.
I absolutely love this rifle.. although I don't own one.. the looks .. the concept.. and knowing that my grandchildren would appreciate simplicity are win wins 😊 Thanks for sharing this brother 🙏 God bless
This is same rifle/ammo combo I have been taking deer with for a number of years now. I use an old weaver K4 scope on mine. Never needed more than one shot. I limit my range to 200yds or less. If the animal is farther out, I get closer.
@ it’s my opinion that with all the different rifles and caliber and scope combos, and all the other gear that is constantly being pushed on us by marketing departments, that we spend so much time managing everything that we often forget the joy of just taking a rifle and going hunting. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of gear available to us now, and we are always being told we need this or that gizmo to be successful. Getting back to basics has brought the joy of the hunt back to my life. I try to keep things as simple as possible anymore when hunting. My turkey gun is a Henry single shot 20ga and it works well. The guns are simple and reliable. I wear an old foresters vest that has a bunch of pockets for the few things I need hunting plus some basic first aid and survival supplies.
That monkey motion is ancient technology if you buy a rifle get one that holds enough rounds to save your life. Even if a charging boar comes at you you do not have enough time to open load and close and fire if you miss the first shot.
@@huntershaven Bought a H&R model 157 in 1980 for $82 (wait has it been almost 45 years?). At the time 30/30 was a good choice. I still take it when I get to, light and handy.
500 dollars. no thanks absolutely rediculas priced for a plain Jane single shot rifle.. .. my Ruger bolt action 243 is cheaper and I can hit quarters at 100yards with it.... thanks for the video I enjoyed it
Some of us like the look & feel of a classic fine wood stock over the dull and hollow dull composite of the ruger ranch rifle. You are comparing apples to oranges.

@danrose9289 they are so handy and compact!!
Henry 's hates repairing or fixing their fuxups.
Looks like a fun one.
@@ltdc426 it's a very solid gun for the money!
Henry is always a good choice if you can afford it. Will you put a scope on it?
Does it have a ejector or extractor?
@@txrick4879 extractor!
no..just have to manually take the empty out by hand.
@TedIntessimone a non ejecting extractor is what I should have said 🙏
If you have to pull the shell out it's a extractor a ejector the shell is tossed out usually over your shoulder or some just pop out to the floor .

You will look long & hard to find any center fire rifle with a quality wood stock for less. Happy hunting.
Only need one shot if ya know how to shoot.
