    I work for 12 months and travel for 3 and have been doing that cycle for the past 4 years. Vision your job as your ticket to travel and make it the job's purpose and the reason you work there (if travel is the biggest goal in your life) and you won't even have to remind yourself to save. Put away a little with every pay check into a savings account so you're not tempted to touch it.

      +alice sarah that's a good point, I found ways to have low skilled jobs, and travel cheaply or for free if I'm willing to give up some comforts.

      Max Leverett My biggest tip would be to find an organized group trip! It's such a great way to meet new people because traveling in a group brings everyone together and you'll probably find lifelong friends on a trip like that (I have!) Also, hostels are great because you share a room with other people and they usually have common rooms where everyone can cook together and hang out. If you're traveling with people you get super close really quick :)

  • @danhannah2910
    @danhannah2910 9 ปีที่แล้ว +52

    This might be a hoax but apparently websites for flights and accomodation (specifically large companies selling packages), charge more if you have more cookies on your internet browser. They can tell when you revisit sites and change prices accordingly. So you must always clear your cookies in internet history

    One great way to save money is to work in a national park. I worked in both Jasper N.P., Canada and Denali Park, Alaska. Pretty much anyone can get a job in a national park, you can save money, and meanwhile you're in an awesome place already and meeting people from around the world while you're working.

    • @ErinsHoose
      @ErinsHoose 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gabriel Traveler What kind of national park jobs have you done? I have no previous experience of anything like that, but it sounds interesting! I live near Loch Lomond and the Trossachs national park, always there! Love it.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      BeautyCreep That's the awesome thing is you don't need any previous experience for a lot of the jobs. In Denali Park, Alaska I was a housekeeper for 2 summers and worked in a restaurant another summer. In Jasper, Canada I was the gardener one time and then worked at the front desk 4 different seasons. If you wanted to be a park ranger or something that's a different story, you would need experience and a college degree. But for those types of jobs I worked, no experience required. You'd just need to find out what the different companies are in the park and figure out how to apply. In Denali I worked for ARA, in Jasper I worked for Mountain Park Lodges. Also, you can just go there and start asking around and probably find something. That's how I found the job in Jasper.

    this really inspired me to travel the world. Im originally from the Netherlands, but grew up and lived in SE Asia for most of my life. This was an eye opener to me as to how amazing the world is and how hospitable people. It really chances you when you see happy people eventhough they just have the bare minimum. It really teaches me to value the little things in life and not be so materialistic. Right now im working in Dubai and aim to save up for 5 years so I can travel for a whole year!!

    Good tips for travel. I got the travel bug a little over two years ago and I had to figure many of those tips out on my own. Both of you seem to have jobs that are in the tipping industry. Picking up an extra shift here and there at a low paying job will help a little, but having a job where you get tips is a massive help if you don't have a job that pays all that well. You can work at McDonalds for minimum wage and have an extremely hard time saving. Or, you can work as a server, bartender, or delivery driver and make minimum wage plus tips (depending on the laws of your state/country), which can almost double your income. I found it much easier to prioritize saving when I had the separate incomes. One is cash tips and the other is a paycheck. Either save the tips and use the paycheck for rent and food, or do the opposite. At least, that's what helped me save.

    love it ! Another tip I recently received from another TH-cam is to try to spread out your assets/income by putting your money into two different bank account. For example, instead of your typical and local bank, go to another bank and put your money there so you won't be tempted to use that money.

  • @JordansShelves
    @JordansShelves 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome, guys. I hate when people say "oh I wish I could afford that". It's all about saving & prioritizing.
    I have a "travel fund" jar & I try to cut out expenses that are unnecessary like Starbucks or that sweater that I don't need & things like that & every time I want to buy something & don't I put the money in the jar. And I put a chunk of any money I make in there as well. It all adds up:)
    A place at the top of my travel list is India!

    great tips! I noticed that most travel don't even consider something like taking a cruise to travel. Although it may sound expensive, when you find the right offer is not at all, and you will visit so many places and see them in a whole new different way. Some people prefer to stay longer in places too, to get to know the culture and all, but for some of us who have less time to travel, finding a way to visit more places in less time sometimes is a good option :)

    Great tips Raya and Nadine! I will say though, if you travel in a group and smartly book hotels you can save more money than staying in hostels. Most hostels charge per person, so if you are a group of 3 or 4, you can share a hotel room for less. Also, pick the right hotel and you can get free breakfast, take snacks (from the breakfast buffet) for lunch while you are out, and then you only pay for dinner someplace.

    Last year I was kind of just like, "Hey mom, so.... I think I should go to VidCon" and I never thought she'd agree but I just kept casually bringing it up daily and she ended up being all for it. After having the time of my life, I started working at the end of the year and put aside $1000 of my earnings specifically for my flight to go this year.
    Florida is DEFINITELY on my list. A lot of internet friends from there, as well as Playlist and Disney WORLD!! Aiming for the next Playlist!!!
    ps: travel is hard for me because I HATE airplanes so much.

    • @2055g
      @2055g 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      nicoleponesyou Disney World is overrated, coming from a Floridian; it is wonderful and all, but you have to go AS SOON as it opens to avoid super long lines and stuff.
      ALSO, you know, well... the people there too aren't exactly the kindest and the prices are ridiculous.
      But aside from that, you can enjoy yourself quite easily when it's early and you've got the park to yourself and like 500 other people at the most.

    • @nicoleponesyou
      @nicoleponesyou 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I totally get that. I used to live close to Canada's Wonderland- going there was like a weekly activity for me. It's more about the experience to me- something I just wanna cross off my bucket list. :)

    With not bearing a powerful passport like the one of USA, the cost of visas takes up a lot of my budget(a visa to visit the UK cost 160$ which is a lot in Indian rupees) and the cheapest flights to many places from India are very expensive. I can only travel once a year because of this.

      RayaWasHere Yeah. Stay at the hostel by booking early. He did it as a dare/bucket list thing. He kept his airline suitcase tags to show he wasn't homeless just in case. But it turned out to be safe because of the large amount of cop patrols there since 9-11. The only problem was fending off a family of raccoons. Ny raccoons are tough.

      prachi suryavanshi that is a great question, I am a Sri Lankan citizen and I plan on making a video about how to get visas and traveling with a low rank passport as you know Sri Lanka is ranked 88th which is pretty low but I'm a budget Traveler my self.

    RayaWasHere Hey Nadine I want to visit and stay for a while at some of the major US cities. I checked AirBNB and the prices for rent alone are just atrociously high (2000 a month) Any advice?

    uber doesn't overcharge? I've never used them but I know so many people who have a driver that seems to purposely make "wrong turns" so they can charge more.

    I live in Singapore and the first place I wanna go is NYC and yes, money is the problem. But with all that you've shared, I think I'm gonna make it work. Question, have you ever travelled by yourself to a foreign country and have troubles communicating due to language barrier? If so, how do you deal?

      Fyqah Rosly I'm happy you're going for it, I'm hoping to make it to Singapore soon actually! :) With speaking English, Bulgarian and a bit of Spanish I've been able to get by for the most part everywhere I've gone. But when I do run into problems I usually try to gesture or even draw out what I'm trying to say. There's also tons of apps that can help translate - hope that helps!

    Ok Raya, it'd be really great if you could give me some advice on this. I save up loads, I have enough money to pack my bags right now and leave for a big travel. The thing that's holding me back tho, is my girlfriend. She's not very good at saving up and even tho she likes the idea of travelling she just can't seem to pick up the discipline to save money. And I feel like it'd be so rude to just go on my own and be like "lol I have more discipline so see ya!" you know? And so I don't know what to do about this, because I want to see the world, and I have the money, I just don't want to leave her behind like that, it seems wrong.

    • @mellonicoley
      @mellonicoley 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your girlfriend doesn't sound like she cares about travelling as much as you do, and you don't want to end up resenting her. Just go!
