You have the 'rare' ability to synthesize complex information into segments that novices can understand. PLUS, you clearly have empathy and patience to keep pace with those that may not understand what is happening. Basically those are the qualities that amount to a great teacher. You are clearly highly knowledgeable when it comes to electronics, but honestly I think your real talent is teaching. All the best.
OK. I think I've watched all of the Technics 'repair' and 'how to' vids you've posted, and I want to just add my voice to the well justified growing list of 'Thank Yous'. Here's the thing though. I'm a teacher, my wife is a teacher. We've seen the good and the bad when it comes to getting information from one person to another. So just let me say that you have a genuine gift. Seriously.
This guy is good. Explains thoroughly. He also has the video for the stuck VTA knob. Of which I followed him when I did mine. Works great. Now I have to adjust my brake. A lot easier than height adjust knob.
Thank you so much for this and all of your other videos! I did replace the rca cables with new good ones by myself after watching your video on it, and I have very little to none soldering experience from before. And now this, my MK3D's stop right on spot now. Much love!
Ok dude. Really helpful. Got my pitch back to standard and adjusted the break too. I have the old style decks without the blue pot but works just the same. Amazing how simple these decks really are. Quite an invention this direct drive system when you think of it. No wonder a sl1200 is displayed in the london science museum.
The hole in the platter is actually intended for adjusting the brake potentiometer without taking it apart. Letting the platter run in reverse won't damage the motor at all. The power involved in breaking is the biggest strain on the drive electronics and the 1210 is designed to do this.
I can conform it's not damaging the motor when letting the platter run in reverse. I calibrated this maybe 20 years ago, and my 1210's are still going strong. Thx for the video, viperfrank!
Alright James, just wanted to say thanks for your technics videos, although i dont currently need to do anything to mine, i've enjoyed watching your videos, and the way you explain in the simplest terms is a gift. I know when the time comes, i'll be able to follow your videos to a T. I just need some solder practice!
excellent vid. With the plastic off you can get to the pot with the platter on for fine tuning through the platter holes. Also, I like to put an AVERAGE weight record on it to fine tune it a bit, much heavier ones will spin out a bit.
tthanks bro this video was REALLY helpfull i purchase two 1200 mk2 and they didn't stop that Good But now with your help no problem your vidz are REALLY helpful thanks again thumbs up!!!
Great helpful video's Tomorrow i will start to clean the height adjustment. But, i love when my brake's are not so tight. Great sound with mixing and you use the brake to fade out !!!
Just used this video to adjust it on my recently purchased 2nd hand 1200 mk2, cheers! Interestingly the brake pot is also blue on my 1200, guessing components vary with the build year of the deck.
now i just go to your channel and search for videos.. thanks for all the work you put in to make these, ide be lost without them... i just got my tt 2nd,3rd, maybe 4th hand and the base had no screws on it. would you happen to know where i could find out what type of screws go in the bottom so maybe i could try to find some replacements..
All your vids are bang on mate! REALLY well explained and illustrated!....... Although those red and white slipmats really trip me out when they spin........... :P
Thanks for all your great videos and tips i have a issue with one of my brake controllers it's broken any ideas where i can get a replacement without the 9.00 charge for something that's only 1-2£ i tried a few off ebay but there been wrong size any help you can give would be much appreciated
Hello, Thanks men your videos are very helpful, question what about when you press the start botton and does that reverse and it moves like fwr and rwd?? you know what can be?
hi jayyyy13, i had something like that happen to mine a long while ago the sound limiter cut the power and when it came back on one of my decks wornt working it turned out to be a fuse... under the plastic cover under the platter the (bit i take off in this video) on the left hand side there are 2 fuses it was one of those,(might be the one in the plug too) that might be your issue if not it could be a component gone like a cap or resister, hope this helped, thanks for the comment. nice one!!!
Great video... care to lend your expertise? I have a 1200 MK2 that has a major problem: the table moves both clockwise and counter clockwise when the 'start' button is pressed. All of the power options seem to work, but the table will not make a complete rotation in the proper direction. Any thoughts?
hey man, thanks a lot for this video and for all the rest - really really helpful! one question tho which i can't find an answer to in any of your videos - i've fixed the electronic brake but it didnt affect the start of the spin, which is a pain. when the platter starts spinning it takes a long time for it to get to the right pitch....about 1-2 seconds.... any idea how can it be fixed? thanks again!
@lewismoorcroft No problem, thank you for your comment. Yeah they did go though a slight change with some of the components, the pots being one of the changes, there was also a couple of other insignificant changes. Thanks again for your comment. Nice One ; )
@djmudithatt Thank you, I'm glad you like the videos, I never thought I would be much good at the whole making TH-cam videos thing, I was never really that good at speaking clearly and off the cuff but I actually enjoy it, thank you very much for your kind words. nice one!!!
Hey mate, my Technic 1200 mk2 stopped working today, and will not power up. Alot of people say they have the same problem and it ends up being their fuse.. I was just wondering how I might go about changing it, any help with that asap would be great! Cheers!
@StrosB4Hos hi there thank you very much for your comment and your kind words. getting replacement screws shouldn't be to hard ebay is going to help you loads on this, if you search for "Technics 1200 base screws" there are loads of people and company's on there selling complete sets of screws for between £7 and £10 thats like $10 to $15 us. give the threads a clean and put a tiny bit of oil i them and your good to go. i hope this has helped and thanks again for your kind words. nice one!!!
On my 1210 MK5, there is no need to take apart to access the brake adjustment dial. On mine, I just remove my slip mat and there is a open slot to access the brake adjustment control. Must me an upgrade.
Yo Mrjack141516, hows it going? If you didnt have the platter spinning when you spun it backwards i cant see that that could cause the brake to slop, but it seems to me that the technics electronic brake isnt actually consistant and sometimes doesn't always work perfectly. generally with the technics turntables you will adjust them and they will be tight for a while you will probably have to adjust them every 4 years or so, hope this helps try adjusting and let me know how it goes. nice one!
Just a note for those who use the heavy rubber mat atop the platter, I found that the rotational weight of this mat will effect your brake adjustment if you don't incorporate it into your adjustment trial and error process.
@mandaltby with one finger pulling it up, tap the middle spindle (with a fair bit a force but not too hard) with the back of a screw driver. it should pop right off after that.
The difference between a 1200 and the 1210 is1200 runs on120 volts and the 1210 has a switch under the platter to selects either 120 volts or 240 volts.
Hello how are you? Very good your video wanted to know if you can help me with a problem I understand a pair of mk2 1200 and I have the following problem, adjust the pitch to 2.7 k as the factory manual says, it is run in 1+ serious in the Del range Pitch in 2, +6 if it's good now, -1 gives me -2.5 -3. If I move the potentiometer of the launch that has to be in 2.7 it accommodates, but it continues the run in -, the complaint stopped factory, the probe removing the orange cable of the step is the same, removing the resistance r209 and it is the same , With The time code serves me to regulate because I look at the pc the range and it serves as a guide but I can not leave them orignals, I want that in -3.3 I have that value and not -5, that in -1 mar -1 no - 2, 5, when I put it in +1 it gives me 0.5 +, what do I have to do? Is there any way to accommodate this? And that they are of factory ?? I await your response many thanks
Today, I learned how to say "motor" in British; "mo - ah". Thank you for the very informative video. I knew about the brake adjustment, but it turns out the potentiometer is broken. The top half of the rotatable pot was broken off. Do you or anyone else know a quick fix for this? Solder, I suppose?
Thank you for your comment and your feed back. I'm glad you found the videos helpful, more videos on the way soon. Thanks again for your comment and feedback, its much appreciated. Nice One ; )
What is this "brake" on a turntable. does that stop the vinyl from spinning once it reaches the end? does that mean I can get a manual turntable with the brake and not worry about falling asleep with the record playing?
Hold it w/ your hand and w/ your other hand hit gently the motor axis (a little hammer would help) : it will release the platter. Don't hit to hard as it could damage the axis and/or the motor !

14 years on, this video still delivers. Thanks!

nice one!!!
Thanks dude, I got it. I waxed my platter with car wax once I got it off. It makes it a lot more slippery for the mat.
Fantastic, thanks for sharing ALL your video tutorials are expertly done!
Thank you, I'm glad you like the video, hopefully more videos on the way soon.
Thank you for your comment.

Hi,
Make sure you adjust the potentiometer with the rubber mat,, the slipmat and a record on. Their weight adds up, so you need slightly more torque.
@djmudithatt Thank you, I'm glad you like the videos, I never thought I would be much good at the whole making TH-cam videos thing, I was never really that good at speaking clearly and off the cuff but I actually enjoy it, thank you very much for your kind words.

My 1210 mk2 platter is going backwards, forward, backward, forward etc. Is that to do with the brake?
Hello. I need to replace the internal fuses but am having trouble removing the platter. Do u have any tips please?

Great Vids Your the Man Peace !
Thank you!
My platter is really hard to pull off. What is the trick , is it because my 1200 is still new, or what is the trick to pulling off platter
I know I’m 8 years late but in the description it says to tap the center spindle with something (like a screwdriver handle) & that’s will loosen it!

mine came out of the box brand new needing a brake adjustment😕
Thanks for sharing!

EXELENT CONGRATULATION THANK FORM PUERTO RICO
What is this "brake" on a turntable. does that stop the vinyl from spinning once it reaches the end? does that mean I can get a manual turntable with the brake and not worry about falling asleep with the record playing?
No, it's just the speed at which the platter stops when you press the button
Andy Japann Ah alright, I was hoping it was something useful but alas... thanks.
On the MK5 you don't even have to take the plastic cover or the platter off to adjust it.
nice one going to have a crack at this tomorrow
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Clue: Ask yourself why there’s a service hole in the platter… 😉
What was that all about? :P
hi mate i posted a video hopefully u can help me out on what the problem is i also inbox u!
Sorry i mean bite
