Mate, just seen your channel pop up. I used your videos at least 6 years ago to restore a set of totally wreaked 1210's I bought on eBay. Couldn't have done it without your detailed instructions + advice. They are still in my setup, brightly coloured and all the replaced RCA's, tonearms etc all still sounding great. Just thought I'd say thanks. Without your videos I would have been the proud owner of two very large, heavy, technics shaped paperweights. Thanks man.
Seriously man. Your videos have absolutely saved me. I am a complete rookie on everything from motherboards, vinylplayers, LEDs, electronics of all sorts and just about everything else with the T1200, But i have now succesfully adjusted my tonearm that was stuck. Fixed the stopping speed on my platter. Adjusted everything with the tonearm and i just find myself watching more of your vids just for fun. Just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work!
I don't think I'll ever do something like this, but I watched the entire video just for the pleasure of enjoying your excellent explanation. Thank you!
One of the best instructional videos I have ever seen on TH-cam for anything. Purchased my first Technics 1200 MK2 on ebay and had to setup and fix the popup light, rca cable, and strobe (it was in real disrepair). These videos made the whole process so much easier and I learned a bit more about electronics. Thanks!
I have just recently changed all the lights on my 1200's to LED's using a kit from eBay. The kit comes with written and picture instructions which to be honest are as clear as mud! But thanks to you and your videos guiding me along, this novice electrician/ solderer has completed what he set out to do! So thank you very much your explanations and videos have been a great help. :)
Lee Bell , I too bought a kit from eBay but it only came with one resistor per turntable, the one for the pop-up light. Did you use a resistor for strobe light also or did not need it? My kit is blue leds. I don't know if I must get another resistor for rest of LEDs.
I guess im asking randomly but does any of you know of a method to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost my password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
That's an example of a well made how-to video. All the information is there so there's no reason for anybody to mess this mod up. Also good to see a new Technics video being made. :)
All of this guys videos on Technics deck modifications, solutions, tips, problem solving are absolutely wicked!!! His other stuff probably is too, I’ve only watched his deck vids. He’s also quite funny on occasion with his whacky number exaggerations. What a dude.
I have absolutely NO interest in trying this (being useless at DIY) but I couldn't resist watching the whole video as it's really entertaining to see you at work. Welcome back!
thanks mate, i'm glad you liked the video. hopefully some more on the way soon. thanks for your comment. nice one!

Man, Im happy with the oryginal lights but when i started watching you i watched whole 41 minutes tutorial. Very good job mate and of course im following you now.
I have no interntion of changing-out the red LEDs on my Technics SL1200Mk2, but this was a fascinating delve into the inner-workings of my turntable, diode/LED technology and top-notch craftsmanship. I also enjoyed your sense of humour--especially the bomb disarming segment. Thanks! -Robin
Wonderful video well explailned, I'm an industrial electronic engineer and you demomstrated the art of soldering appsolutely correct, I am impressed. I have seen many cockups in soldering by people not following those few simple rules. Masterful..
I’ve done a crash course of all your technics mods and fixes , I feel like I’ve seen you grow up in age because I started from the beginning and watched them in a space of a week , I’m learning so much but done nothing yet but I feel this is going to change soon, great stuff ;-)
Hey Frank. I never had to put the resistor on the brown wire. But I used 3mm Leds on my strobe and color changing leds on my 45/33 buttons. I cant remember what the voltage drop is are on the leds. I have it written down some where. But Love your vids man. Been a real help even inspired me to get into Electrical engineering. Always been into electronics. When i started modding my decks and doing this stuff is what made me start school. So I guess I owe ya some thanks there.
although i am 10yrs late to this video, i must say you really did a good educating information which even people like me can understand the whole process. Thank you. 🤩👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Well, my 1200 MK2 still works fine but I'm surprised about your knowledge and experience in this matter, I've enjoyed to see you turning in action fixing and changing those LEDs. Congrats and thanks for help us worldwide, the Technics turntable fans and users.
James, this video is perfect. Technically correct in the work you did on the turntable. Congrats for the exact words and fabulous way to communicate. Go ahead with your high quality video uploads. Greetings from Lisbon, Portugal Macedo Pinto
I have watched many videos on micro electronics. Arduino's etc... Yours is the one I found the most informative by far! Great soldering advice. Subscribed and look forward to seeing more.
I would like to add two life savers for the tool kit, cheap wire strippers for the vaguely competent especially when it comes to stanley blades and to keep your camera handy and take a pic of anything your not sure of or involves a few routines in its repair, that way you don't loose momentum and can refer to the pic rather than having to leave your work station and refer back to a vid and all that entails, especially when there are different length screws involved. Im giving my decks their first big service in 20 years next week all leds and rca leads too and a set up am looking forward to it your vids are concise and to the point indeed and easy to follow and I am sure will make for a stress free service am happy that I have come across them...
Excellent video! I found your work precise, clear and I was highly entertained while being well informed. I've done some LED things with vintage tape recorders so I know how important those voltage and current values are (cooked plenty of LEDs in my time), and I appreciate your clear explanation. Great video, thanks for making it!
Like always, your tutorials videos for Technics 1200 are the best, simply the best. Thank you for doing this, really thanks a lot. Greetings from Monterrey, Mexico.
What are the odds? Yesterday I was changeing target light in my turntables alongside with Your (as always helpful) tutorial. During the proces I was wondering that it's been a year since Your last video , and if it's over of viperfrank YT activity ? Probably it's just coincidence, but a positive one! Welcome back and keep up the good work.
Hi Viperfrank! Great videos BTW. Just a quick question if I may; Would one still need to use a resistor if the LEDs being swapped are red- basically the same that are like the factory Technics LED's? The original technics red (amber?) LEDs (SVDSLH54VT3) are of course almost impossible to find, so I cannot find any specs on them anywhere. Does the voltage drop on the originals differ from-say an equivalent red 5mm LED from bright_components on ebay? Thanks in advance brother!
Hi James, the original LEDs used by Technics in the strobe, are these LEDs not available to buy anymore? Was just wondering that the voltage drop must be different on the technics LEDs to one's bought today
Hi, I was wondering whether or not I have to do anything special, like add a resistor, to my LP120’s strobe light. I want to change the LED light to green but I’m not sure if it’ll burn or if I have to do an extra step. I’m thinking I could just hop right in and desolder the red light and replace them with green one. I hope this is relevant because both the lp120 and this turntable are very similar in electronics. Thank you!
I know you have done this in the past, but I would love an updated video on how to change the RCA cables on the 1200. With better video quality and more information regarding what exactly is going on in the electronics. Thanks in advance - love your videos
Thank you Frank. I enjoy all your vids. There is plenty info. I love the fact how you explain before you get to work. I have service my own 6 1200 mk2 from changing Audio cables to changing the pitch and calibrate the whole thing. So great. Thank you again.
Awesome video very helpful. one question, im looking to install yellow LEDs into the srtobe and if red and yellow LEDs typically have the same voltage drop will i still need to add the 560ohm resistor seeing how the origonal LEDs are red?
thanks mate, its good to be back, been a very hectic time for me at the moment. but hopefully that's all sorted now, i can get back to doing videos again. thank you for your comment and feed back.
I think from earlier in the video when choosing the parts it was 470r resistor but the colour codes on his one at the end of video did not correspond to 470 ohms 🙈
Wow the level of detail! I love the screw type / location graphic. I wondered if you were provide instructions on how to breathe during this activity :-D Top vid mate, very well presented. I loved it
Great video. Wish this was available when I changed my strobe leds 2 months ago. Would of made it way more easier task !! James you do a supreme job with your tutorials!! Thank you for what you do !
no problem thank you for your feed back, that's been quite a popular request lately, so it will probably be the next Technics video. thanks for the comment mate.
the resistor protect the board or protect the led light ? then if i put a resistor on the brown wire do i have to keep the R212 or i have also to put other resistor in the place of R212 ? thank u so much
Welcome back to posting, I have found your videos to be very informative. Can you do videos for other Turntable brands like Stanton & Vestax? Keep up the good work.
Would you help me and tell me why my technics 1210 mk2 pitch is very slow when playing sometimes it take some second to match the bpm of a playing or refuses to match any help 🙏🙏
Dear Frank, firstly, congratulations on the videos. Very explanatory. Look: Is it necessary to install a resistor for the 4 red 5mm LEDs on the SL 1200 MK2 Strobo? I know that the red LEDs have around 1.8 to 2.8 volts and that's why I'm in doubt. Is the voltage going to the Strobo LEDs 20v or 9v? For the tower light, I know that the voltage sent is 20v and in this case, could I put a 3mm high brightness blue LED with up to 3.8v and a 1k5 resistor? Thank you for your attention!
Looking good man! Another great video. Thank you so much for you videos, they have helped me tremendously. Please continue your work. Also, a suggestion - if you have time you may want to redo your oldschool videos in HD, or even to add more information you may have left out. Anyways thanks a lot for your work!
Hi Great Video. Please can you confirm was that a 470 ohm resistor you fitted to the brown wire at the end and is that the same value l will need for clear blue 5mm led’s thanks 🙏🏽
Hi Frank You promised to explain how to change the other LEDs on the 1200/1210 technics, but I can't find a video for this on yours. Could you tell us how to do ? Your teaching is really really good, and I'd like to do this by myself
If I'm not mistaken then if I am going to replace the red LEDs in my table which is the color that was in there before then I do not need to add any extra resistors… Correct?
I believed among the technicians that shows technical videos, you are the most knowledgeable. I trust every word you says and wished I have the same ability and know how. I have a little problem with my SL1300, I could not find replacement valve for my strobe light. Can you suggest a better way to replace it with led or however. Would appreciate all the help.
I'm unsure if you still do tutorials...im still coming across your old videos....but could you try do a tutorial in placing a Serato box sl1,sl2,sl3 into say a pioneer mixer...djm 500-700...any luck?or a link of someone whose done it
Good to see you again Viper. I always enjoy watching your videos. As a matter of fact I used your videos as a guide to tweaked my own 1200's. In another token, I just got two used 1200's am planning to change the strobe light to white LED's. But I'm also would like to change the Pop-Up light to LED. Do I need another Resistor for this process? Thanks, and kudos from Chicago, IL.
Hi, Very interesting video. Congratulations. I would like to know what is the resistor you use to decrease 33t/45t led brightnes ? Can I use another one to do the same for 0 from pitch fader on the brown cable too ? It seems to be a 150 ohm resistor. Is it correct ? As I am not sure to understand all your coments, I need your confirmation. Perhaps you have a video showing this manipulation ??? Thanks for your help. Regards.
Mate you are brilliant. I have some old technics pre/ power amp. Would love to change the dull led on them. any suggestions where a technician as genius like you in West London.
My brother gave me his 1210's when he moved out and he had our uncle to this but he also did the 33/45 led and the pitch led but now I've seen one that goes around the platter do you know how it's done?
Nice video. Whats the device called you used to bench test the LEDs early in the video. The device where you can change amperage and voltage to light up the LEDs and where can I get one?
Hi Frank ... i'm so curious , but , i would like to know where i can find the electronic board that you use in this video to power to LED ... is it possible ? Thanks in advance and lot of "like" for your videos ...
Great vid ..... But a question ... How come the led kits on ebay dont come with a resistor for the strobe.....???? Iv fitted a few kits and had no issues
Its not essential to put the resistor in line, its just most modern LED have a higher voltage drop, and operate up to 30mA. buy limiting the current further, the voltage will not drop as much, so the peak voltage past the offset point is higher. on the scope i have found doing this distorts the supply waveform less and probably gives a slightly better strobe effect. but again not essential, just something that i recommend doing to make sure that mod operate exactly how you intend it to. i'm glad you enjoyed the video, and thank you for your comment.
what is that wee power supply thing you use for testing and adjusting voltage to power the leds called? i want to find one online but dont know what to actually search for. thanks. ps great video
Hi James, Quick question, where did you get the technics service manual? I know there are loads of bad copys on ebay and I also mailed panasonic, but as yet had no reply, where can I find a nice clear manual like yours? thanks again
Hello. I have a sony ps 8750 version USA (120V 60Hz). In Chile we use 50hz. The turntable does not have the strobe light and I have tried some replacement, but do not read well the marks of the dish. It would change for a led like the one you did and solve the problem in the sony ?. thanks for your help.
good to see you back viperfrank! just wondering if you answer a question i have, my TT start-stop is acting weird. when i push the start-stop button the platter it moves normally. but when i stop the platter, first it stops, but after a couple of secs it moves back again,it starts moving slowly and it speeding up just like the platter never turned off.. do you know how to fix this? thank you very much..

Good guide. The only suggestion I would make is some heat shrink on the in-line resistor connections instead of insulating tape.
DUUUUUUDE! I thought I was alone. Im in school for electronic engineering and have been spinning for 15+ years. SUBSCRIBED INSTANTLY lol

thank you, wow, 9 moths. well hopefully i should be uploading a bit more frequently from now on.
thank you for your comment.
Hey what kind of power supply is that that you were using on the technics turntable LED light video
Hi, I was wondering whether or not I have to do anything special, like add a resistor, to my LP120’s strobe light. Good to see you're back James! You've saved me quite some trouble ánd cash the last year or so :-)
Where've you been hiding mate? Nice video, welcome back
thanks mate, its good to be back, been a very hectic time for me at the moment. but hopefully that's all sorted now, i can get back to doing videos again. thank you for your comment and feed back.
Hello Frank great guide thanks can you tell me how many ohms is the resistor you put in line with the led's?
I think from earlier in the video when choosing the parts it was 470r resistor but the colour codes on his one at the end of video did not correspond to 470 ohms 🙈
Outstandingly detailed, clean and high-quality video guide, great job, thank you!!!!!
Wow the level of detail! I love the screw type / location graphic. I wondered if you were provide instructions on how to breathe during this activity :-D Top vid mate, very well presented. I loved it
Great vid, glad to see you back!
I am replacing the red led’s in the turret on my 1210mk2 with red do I also need to replace a resistor because I am putting new led’s in?
I am also doing the same. Wouldn’t all red LEDs be the same?
superb video mate thanks very much :) do you have a vid on replacing the leds in the 45/33 buttons??
thanks
dan
Great video. Wish this was available when I changed my strobe leds 2 months ago. Would of made it way more easier task !! James you do a supreme job with your tutorials!! Thank you for what you do !
It's so nice to see a new video from you!
Well done, sir. Welcome back.
All i searched to know is on this video !! Thanks for sharing your experience ! I will do that with blue. Thank you
Great Video... Thanks you!
Please make a video how to change LED Light on 33 / 45 , Target Light and Pitch Control .. Thanks !
no problem thank you for your feed back, that's been quite a popular request lately, so it will probably be the next Technics video.
thanks for the comment mate.
Thank You mate...
viperfrank you just twist the trove no need to fiddle with the clips it just pops out when you turn it
Fantastic video, really learned a lot from this, will watch it a couple times more before i attempt a change of my LED's, cheers dude
the resistor protect the board or protect the led light ?
then if i put a resistor on the brown wire do i have to keep the R212 or i have also to put other resistor in the place of R212 ?

really cool video, I don't think I will ever attempt this but I enjoyed watching the video, well done
DON'T CUT THE RED WIRE! XD viperfrank is back, nice one!
Hi VIPERFRANK , could you make one to ad LED strips under the platter ? with indications to the voltage for the transformater and where to solde it ?
Would you help me and tell me why my technics 1210 mk2 pitch is very slow when playing sometimes it take some second to match the bpm of a playing or refuses to match any help 🙏🙏
Dear Frank, firstly, congratulations on the videos. Very explanatory.

Is it necessary to install a resistor for the 4 red 5mm LEDs on the SL 1200 MK2 Strobo? I know that the red LEDs have around 1.8 to 2.8 volts and that's why I'm in doubt. Is the voltage going to the Strobo LEDs 20v or 9v?

Hi Great Video. Please can you confirm was that a 470 ohm resistor you fitted to the brown wire at the end and is that the same value l will need for clear blue 5mm led’s thanks 🙏🏽
DOPE! I see you've upgraded from your older videos. nice workstation! keep the videos coming!
Excellent and detailed video. Well done. What made and model of the little hand held oscilloscooe that you used? I could really do with one of those.
A really cool video with a comprehensive way of explaining! Thank you for sharing
Hi Frank
You promised to explain how to change the other LEDs on the 1200/1210 technics, but I can't find a video for this on yours.
Could you tell us how to do ? Your teaching is really really good, and I'd like to do this by myself
Do you need a resistor if you change the pitch zero button to a blue led?
If I'm not mistaken then if I am going to replace the red LEDs in my table which is the color that was in there before then I do not need to add any extra resistors… Correct?
I believed among the technicians that shows technical videos, you are the most knowledgeable. I trust every word you says and

Good to see you again Viper. I always enjoy watching your videos. As a matter of fact I used your videos as a guide to tweaked my own 1200's. Pédagogie 10 sur 10 merci pour tous ces conseil.
Nice video Frank have you got a video on how to change the 33/45 LED's? And a video on how to change the target light?
Hi,
Very interesting video.

Best tutorial ever! so detailed and entertaining! very very good job mate!
Can you do similar to an SL-1300? Modify the existing lamp? Thanks in advance, your instruction
is so thorough that even me can easily follow.
James can you please do a vid on how to change the 33/45 leds
Awsome videos by the way frank you have helped me out heaps with my turntables
Digi-Key in the U.S. I recommend a Fluke Volt, Ohm, Milliamp meter. Leaded Solder preferably.
Brilliant tutorial. Superb articulation.
Nice video! Best one I've seen yet for technics TT strobe
Hey dude, great video.
I have two AT LP120's and although they are copies of the 1200's would you think the wiring would be alot different inside?
what is that wee power supply thing you use for testing and adjusting voltage to power the leds called? i want to find one online but dont know what to actually search for. thanks. ps great video
i always wondered why the led there in the first place, is it for when your in a club and the lights are dim and you need to see the speed of it?
Hi James, Quick question, where did you get the technics service manual? I know there are loads of bad copys on ebay and I also mailed panasonic, but as yet had no reply, where can I find a nice clear manual like yours? thanks again
Hello. I have a sony ps 8750 version USA (120V 60Hz). In Chile we use 50hz. The turntable does not have the strobe light and I have tried some replacement, but do not read well the marks of the dish. It would change for a led like the one you did and solve the problem in the sony ?. thanks for your help.
I'm putting in blue LEDs. The resistor was 470 ohm 1/4 watt. Correct? Thank you for the video. This was perfect.
would you be able to do this to the 33/45 lights too?
Very exhaustive video. Thank you!
good to see you back viperfrank! just wondering if you answer a question i have, my TT start-stop is acting weird. when i push the start-stop button the platter it moves normally. but when i stop the platter, first it stops, but after a couple of secs it moves back again,it starts moving slowly and it speeding up just like the platter never turned off.. do you know how to fix this? thank you very much..
