From Wikipedia:
In 1998, the van went through the most thorough update since its introduction in 1971. The engine was moved forward in the chassis to improve crash protection, and the front end sheet-metal was redone with a longer nose to accommodate this change. Moving the powertrain forward also resulted in a smaller dog house (engine access cover) which increased front interior room and allowed better access when moving between the front seats.
The Ram just leans in face first into that contact like it was stuck to the wall
Considering what little there was to work with, it did well. Also, sitting higher than the car this is likely to hit also helps a bit (as long as it doesn't tip over) and its weight advantage over most cars would come in handy.
Did better than I thought. Im sure a 40 mph off set crash would look horrific.
Do you mean small side overlap or something like that, that this van would do bad?
@@nicho-uyx1287 Moderate overlap
No. The 40 offset test produced a driver front tire intrusion. A broken left ankle if the foot was flat on the floor. No injury if the foot was on top of the wheel well.

What did this accomplish that a free tour of an insurance salvage/auction yard would present instead of tearing up a great Dodge Van that Mercedes Benz quit producing in 2003 like my white 2002 Dodge Ram Van 3500 15 passenger that is a terrific design and a great coach build that does it all and is not for sale. It looks like the short wheel base Dodge B-100 held up pretty good. TD Atlanta
To test the car if it's safe
BS
@@mrtomdorn BS that the test is to see if it's safe or BS that the ram van would have been safe at all?
Do you realize this test was done in 2001? The date is on the photos. You're getting angry about a van that was crash tested 20 years ago.
I don’t like when they could only take pics
There is definitely high-speed footage, but it's sitting at the national archives likely on a film reel.
