The drummer Marco Minnemann was one of the drummers who auditioned for Dream Theater after Mike Portnoy left. The band decided between their current drummer Mike Mangini and Minnemann. In an interview Minnemann stated that he eventually wanted to compose and write on his own projects.

the part of the song a bit before the drum solo where they all get wonky is where there making fun of the blues. that special blues it sounded like the special blues olympics. haha
Just discovered this...LOL- my absolute favourite guitarist here or as he often is referred to "the guitarist's guitarist". Guthrie lookin like Jesus but plays like god. Three amazin musicians.
Guthrie is probably one of the greatest musical technicians ever. His ear is great and he can play anything. I can't really say he is the best guitar player ever because so many styles have great representatives, and songwriting and riff creating are also a thing. Just enjoy excellence when you hear it.
All three are awesome. Guthrie is the one and only real follower of Alan Holdsworth, Marco is maybe the best drummer of all times (together with Gavin Harrison and Virgil Donati) and Brian has this unbelievable groove......this is the absolute peak!
Even if you don't react to it, I can't recommend anything more than the Boing! We'll Do It Live concert by these (they play this song if you want to watch it a second time around to see them nail the "broken" part). These three are some of the most insane musicians I've ever watched and when they come together they feed off of each other to become even greater musicians. Most of the stuff like solo's are all improvised. You will not regret watching that live concert (it's somewhere on TH-cam!). EDIT: Got to the part where you're talking about recording. The engineering on the live video mentioned above is pristine.

No question, to me he is the best drummer technically. But i still prefer Gavin Harrison, almost as good technically, but more emotion and connection to the other instruments.

Guthrie Gowan are among the very best guitarists on the planet, besides Buckethead and Marco Minnemann are probably the best drummer.
