I’m in the process of releasing an album that I spent the past five years writing and recording. I’d been feeling utterly lost as to how to approach the release, but a few weeks ago I found the Creative Juice podcast and shortly afterwards I began listening to the audiobook version of “How to Make it in the New Music Industry” (first edition). Ari has such a wealth of insight on the modern music business, and he breaks down the album release checklist more thoroughly than I’ve found anywhere else. It’s empowering stuff, albeit also incredibly daunting because of the mountain of work that needs to get done. I’m excited to check out the new edition! Also, major props to Creatice Juice/Indepreneur. I’ve learned tons from this podcast in just in a few weeks of tuning in.

Circa, as usual, you are so incredibly generous with your knowledge. What really struck me this time around was a memory that was jogged from years ago. I was working in the studio with a phenomenal, top-call drummer. I was trying to convince him that we didn't need a click, that we would organically create the groove and, who cared if we were in time if it felt good? He looked at me and smiled and said "The Click is the truth." That is how I feel about Indepreneur. Every time I hear a fellow-musician talk about how this is all numbers and statistics, I shake my head and think, no, this is the truth. What you continue to teach is how we can reach our audiences. Not with tricks and the ole "fooling the algorithm" mumbo-jumbo. The truth. Thank you. And thank you for growing with the industry and trends. I personally appreciate that you NEVER give us a training unless you are absolutely confident it will support our missions. Spotify, TH-cam, whatever, you never send us out to Beta test for you. You go through the growing pains, work out the kinks, try, fail, try until it works and only then do you share it. Remarkable. Thank you. Thanks to Ari. It was another stupendous interview/podcast!

Indepreneur has been helping me let go of my dogma bit by bit. I'll have to admit, I skipped your episodes on Spotify, because I wanted nothing to do with the platform. After this episode, I'll be going back to check them out! Ari was a great guest, I'll have to check out the book soon!

Ari is the man! Been following his blog for years. His insane breakdown of distribution services helped me choose the distribution company for my label. I would love a copy of his new book! Save me the cost of buying one, since I definitely need to have it one way or the other lol
Keep up the good work both of you, Ari & Circ!

So great to hear the 2 of you chattin' it up. Finding Ari's Take and then buying his book was a lifeline when I was trying to figure out how to release a CD. I wish I would have found Indepreneur then too! Fan Finder would have made all the difference. But at least you're in my world now! I'd love a copy of Ari's 2nd Edition. Thanks for your podcast Kyle "Circ" Circa! I listen every week.

Listening to this gives me massive encouragement and belief that after toiling for years trying to land that big record deal, I can actually begin making a living doing what I love and not have to just be a delivery driver and a 'failed' musician. And when people ask me at parties etc what I do, I can confidently say I make a living as an alternative British Hip-hop artist! So thanks to you Circa and Ari........can't wait to get the book......free or not! Alex aka Catraz

    Funny Story
2 years ago I was searching on which DSP to use to release my first EP. Found Ari's article on it. Continued reading on what he was doing and loved it.
then this years while checking IG, I got hit with an Add for Indepreneur.
Wasnt sure it was legit but While searching up on Circa, I saw him Referencing that same Distributor article I had read in the past. Then listened to the podcast with both you guys back in 2018. For me, that meant indepreneur was for real.
im now a full subscriber. So getting both you guys on the same podcast again is awesome!

I’ve been struggling with the “morality” of following your trainings and “paying for fans” and whatnot (written in the worst possible way).I’m waiting for someone to call me out on it so I have to defend myself about it. Definitely something to be said about the capitalistic nature of playing the game but when that’s the game that’s being played, it’s hard to change the rules or play a new game when you’re in last place. But the people that can’t afford to spend money on ads have it much harder. So I’m doing what I can now and keeping notes on what feels unfair, in hopes to some day sway us in a different direction. Which is why I’m here learning as much as I can!

    • @musicmarketing

Full Stack Creative I don’t disagree! One of the things I appreciate about your stuff is the accessibility; you can definitely start with a tiny budget to get your feet wet and see what’s in store! I started my FF with just $3 a day, took it slow to find the right audience and make a lookalike, and it’s done pretty incredibly all in all!

Because both of yal have shared so much knowledge to Indie music community, I wanted to share something as well. Theres this website everynoise.com/, that has all the artists and genres from spotify, grouped together in a map. So you can search an artist or genre and find the neighboring artists and genres.
I think this could be a very helpful tool, especially considering Ari’s experience with PlaylistPush where he got placed in playlists that were not similar to his music, and thus messing up his Fans Also Like section. With Every Noise, we can actually search to see which artists could potentially be near us in the Spotify Cluster Map, so that way we can have a better chance of knowing who similar artists/genres to us, thus we can market to their fans.
I personally have used this website tool to find artists that are similar to Gesaffelstein that I may have not known of, so I wanted to share this knowledge with yal. Good luck everyone! Rising tide lifts all ships 🚢 🌊
