Scooby Doo was the first family coaster that still operates today as Woodstock Express. Scooby Doo was such a big part of the Gen X generation not only in the park but on television as well.

We had Hanna Barbera character shows with the Clown Band once a day during the 1976 thru 1978 seasons where there were dance routines and music. First performed to the right inside of the front gate, then at the Showplace theater after it opened.
It was called Banana Boogie in 1978.

Hanna Barbara needs to make a comeback all around (not just as an IP at KI)!!

I learned something today. I didn't realize Huckleberry Hound started the blue ice-cream. Pre-80's was before my time at the park. I remember in the early 80's though Scooby being all over the park. Scooby plush for sale or prizes, pre-smurfs era.

Love your point about The Beast being "special". There's been a lot of talk about the vortex replacement, and what I've come to realize is what I actually want is something special. I love orion, I think it's a great ride but unfortunately it's just not "special". I personally think a vekoma STC would be a perfect fit for the plot of land and for kings island. Not necessarily my first choice , but I still think it would be awesome.

Boo blasters is basically a way to escape the heat of summer. The guns never work. It definitely needs an upgrade.

I never knew that about huckleberry hound and the blue ice cream. I always thought it was smurfs. Interesting. Ryan is making me feel old. I remember the hanna Barbara era.

I completely forgot the Blue Ice Cream was originally connected to Huckleberry Hound! 🙂 Huckleberry Hound being the RFK Jr. of this poll Is HILARIOUS!

I know a signature ride like the Beast, that is unique and defines a park is like lightning in a bottle, but I would love to see KI put in a modern, new signature ride someday. Something that is hard to repeat at other parks and brings people in from all over the world.

For small kids it's Snoopy. I love planet Snoopy. The characters are fantastic for little ones and they need to have them at the park entrance at open...
Scooby is more versatile... Can do more tweener rides.
I'd love to see a return of Scooby to upgrade Boo Blasters - but as a screen ride like Toy Story Mania or Minion Blast.
On a side note - I'd propose a return of Haunted Mansion but redone and in a new building in a rethemed Action Zone (themed to "scary/supernatural" taking advantage of Bat and Banshee) - something more like Minion Mayhem or Flight of passage... Or dreaming big, Minnie and Mickey Run away Railroad.
Also - Rode the Woodstock Express last week and got a kick out of the ride op calling it "the Beastie"...

Hmmm... Google states the following - "Kings Island's blue ice cream was inspired by the Smurfs' Enchanted Voyage ride, which opened at the amusement park in 1982. The ice cream was introduced as a tie-in to the ride, and was sold in the area where riders exited the boat ride after passing through scenes from the Smurfs." It actually makes more sense that it was introduced the same year the new Smurf's attraction debuted since it was all about the blue. What source states that Huckleberry Hound was the inspiration for the popular blue soft-serve? Don keeps saying that Huckleberry Hound was the dog credited for the creation of the blue Ice cream. I think he is barking up the WRONG tree!!!

Snoopy. I love my Tower Topics Tee. I have worn it to the park 3 times since I got it. Neither of you were in the park any of those days. The day I dont wear it, there is Don. Lol. If they would retrack Woodstock express it would pull big lines again. It is just so rough. The Beast had best not ever go anywhere. From the first time I say that grainy animated commercial I was in love with it. I know its not much compared to others but I am coming up on my 1000 mark on it. I live in Indianapolis so I dont get to get there as much as others. I am going to hit it on Sunday as long as it is running. If Don is in the park I may see if he will take my 1000 with me.

Huckleberry Hound. Kings Island will always be associated with Hanna Barbera to me.

Scooby all the way! I always associated Peanuts with Holidays and not so much summer time. My two young boys love watching Scooby doo and the other Hanna Barbara shows on Max and on boomerang.

Scooby all the way! I was around 10 years old during the change to Peanuts and I remember being very disappointed. I just don’t have the connection to them like I did with Nickelodeon/HB. Might be biased because I grew up watching Cartoon Network and was a huge Scooby Doo fan, but I just feel like Gen Z/ Gen A has no connection with Peanuts. Going as a kid to KI in the HB/Nickelodeon era it was WAY more interactive with shows, parades, meet and greets, etc.

The Eiffel Tower seems to be geographically centered with Tylersville Road heading toward the park from Mason Montgomery Road.
Removing will probably never happen and definitely is a landmark.

  • @johnd551

Boo Blasters is NOT a good dark ride. And it does NOT fit in Planet Snoopy or Camp Snoopy. I think Kings Island needs make the whole kids area Camp Snoopy and then make a new awesome dark ride that would fit with the Peanuts theme. They could make it snipets of all the Charlie Brown TV specials covering all the beloved themes and holidays featured in them. I agree with Ryan. They need to wait to have a good budget to do this right. It could be done very creatively with loving memories, catch phrases, music and experiences of all these lovable characters, like as unto the WDW attraction The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. That would make it VERY rerideable!!!

What? Scooby was the most beta of them all. Always cowering and terrified. Snoopy doesn't fear anything. Snoopy = Alpha
