    One of my favorite KGLW albums, for sure. It stands out so uniquely, even for this band. Ages like a fine wine, too.
    Complex polymeters and dreamy, eerie vibe makes me feel like my mind is stuck in an endless loop of lucid dreams, and learn to enjoy the ride even if there's no escape from it. The swirl of space this album creates feels everchanging, transforming all around you, yet surprisingly calming and kind at the same time. It carries you until the very end. (I don't use drugs btw :D)
    I also see you're enjoying some Knower! You guys have good taste, for sure. If you have time in your schedule, I suggest checking out either Black Hot Soup by DJ Shadow (a re-make of the eponymous King Gizzard song) or Louis Cole - F It Up (it's a solo project of Knower and Clow Core drummer).

    Some info that might help with the context of a lot of the album, around this time Stu and his wife's daughter was born, and so especially in Yours and Butterfly 3000 you can see a lot of that sort of hopeful uncertainty in the lyrics. it's all very sweet, and i love this album so much.

    So great you guys decided to listen to a whole album. Dreams isn't my favorite either - I can skip it or ignore it, but like all mid Gizz tracks, they can turn it into something engaging live. Haha Clay you noticed the crazy bassline for Ya Love - that's a Cookie line, his standout contributions are 'jaunty'. The guys definitely seem like they have a lot of fun - I loved the music and thought the live performances were great fun but then the video for Intrasport made me love them as friends in a band. The video for Hate Dancin' conveys the silly fun of being in King Gizzard best IMO 😁

    Man, I love this album. Totally made remotely during the pandemic. Isn't the rumor they almost broke up over a hot pot in Shanghai? Can't wait till you take the evil King Gizzard pill and descend into Murder of the Universe or PetroDragonic Apocalypse.

    You should totally listen to the album murder of the universe. Also! I'd recommend looking into the gizzverse. It's the universe/lore that connects almost all of their songs
    The story is incredibly well made and interesting.
    Anyway thank you for doing these reactions, gizz is my favorite band of all time.

    • @secondhandreactions
      @secondhandreactions  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ya know I've seen people mention the gizzverse. I just thought it was something the fandom came up with. I didn't realize there was lore to their songs. Although, as we get to know them better, it's cool to see how each of their albums has a feel to it. Some more metal, some psychedellic, some kinda jam bandish. I guess it shouldn't surprise me that the gizzverse is a thing. That's really cool. This band is something else

    Stoked you did your first full album! It was nice listening to this album after so much Silver Cord. Crazy how far they’ve come in just a couple years with their synths (this album was 2021). Some tracks will stay a miss but give the album a listen without the videos! I forgot how jarring some of them are.

    I'm with you guys on Dreams, for me personally it would've been better being about half the length and stuck onto Blue Morpho as an intro section. Interestingly enough though, according to Stu, Dreams was the first song from Butterfly 3000 and the rest of the album was made with it as a starting point.

      Omnium Gatherum is a great one to do a full react on! It’s quite long and would maybe need to be broken up into 2 videos, but it covers sooo much ground in their discography. I tell people it’s their greatest hits of genres that they’ve done, but with brand new songs.

      Maybe I'll cause controversy, but in my opinion, SHR will put "Changes" at the top of the ranking of all 25 albums. The biggest surprise should be "Paper Mâchè Dream Balloon".

    • @maciekwoyda870
      @maciekwoyda870 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, I don't know anyone who would declare unlimited love for their entire output. What I mean here is the penchant for reaching out and frequently listening to all albums without exception. And given the diversity of this music, it's probably no wonder. I like their albums more or less, but that doesn't change the fact that I consider them an outstanding and unique band. I guess it's natural that we create such lists in our heads. I think that KGLW's discography encourages such choices exceptionally. Such a mass of often completely different music, which gathered millions of people with different musical tastes and established strong bonds between them, is unique. Anyone who loves music will naturally choose their favorite one, and that's what I meant when I wrote about the ranking. Because we already know that KGLW are extraordinary and unique 😁. I'm sure you'll find this your favorite album. The one you will come back to most often.

  • @pizzarella_yt
    @pizzarella_yt ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This album is very very nice in my opinion. Lots of it was written about Stu's (then) newborn daughter, particularly Yours, Ya Love and Butterfly 3000.
    My personal favorites would be Shanghai, Catching Smoke and Black Hot Soup. I was very pleasantly surprised with the amount of guitar on this album. Theres some acoustic on Yours and Shanghai, I think a few electrics in Catching Smoke, and Black Hot Soup is almost completely guitar based.
    A rare thing happened to me with this album however: I genuinely dislike the music video for 2.02 Killer Year. I'm not sure why, but it's the first music video from them I've seen that (in my opinion) does not fit the song in any way.
    On the topic of music videos, I saw the gizzverse mentioned in the comments, so I wanted to say Black Hot Soup's video has some connection to the music videos from Nonagon Infinity. This album also references the album Polygondwanaland and is sort of its synth-y descendant.
    All in all, great album, can't wait to see some more from you!

    Hey Clay and Sue I hate to jump on a video and talk about someone who's not in the video you're reacting to but I got some pretty horrible news. Sam Tompkins just posted his father attempted suicide last Thursday and today, Tuesday November 14th he passed away.
    We need to show Sam as much love as we can and continue to spread his music far and wide. I'm gutted because one of my boys committed suicide last week and back in 2015 my wife who battled borderline personality disorder took her kind when I was over in Afghanistan.
    Keep Sam and your family in your thoughts and if you haven't reacted to his song "Hero" which he wrote for his dad you guys should check it out. Much love to you both!
