I could only imagine how this would have been one of those events. So tragic!!!! I never realize the story behind someone until I start researching! Thx for watching!!
I echo your comment about some memories staying with you forever. I was only 7 years old yet I remember the saddened reaction of family and teachers around me. It was all over the newspapers and tv news. While we were far away from Ontario (Alberta) his passing had a real impact on Canadians across the country. R.I.P. Tim, Lori, Kim, Kelly and Tracy.
I was a kid living in St Catharines when this happened,I remember a friend and I looking over Tim's wrecked car. It was at the north end of Lakeshore Rd at Singers body shop.

My aunt and uncle used to go to timmie's after every bowling night and close down the shop. When they went to Timmie's, in the 70's.. yes, everything was FRESH. Coffee makers LOOKED like drip coffee makers, and there were stools all along the front counters.. the front counter was ALWAYS a sit down service counter. The bakery within the kitchen was obvious. The donuts were not slathered with sugar glaze. There was a glazed donut of each flavor.. but the flavor of donuts themselves were all very different and didn't contain a sugar glaze.. it was real flavor to them. Some with nuts some with cinnamon some with sprinkles and the cake BITS were leftovers from the baking of donuts, that's where the bits came from. It used to be a real bakery and coffee shop.. but it's not anything like it was. It's a very sad version of what it USED to be.
@keetahbrough yes, I remember those fresh baked donuts!!! Remember sitting in a few Tim's back in the day. Was a different era. Appreciate you watching!! Chris
I remember meeting Tim Horton at the mountain arena in Hamilton shortly before his accident. Used to live around the corner from the first timmies on Ottawa street in Hamilton
I watched that game with my then girlfriend that night and between the second and third period they showed footage of Tim from the first two periods of that game, he was stellar and his position perfectly. The next afternoon I heard the news.
I don"t know if you have ever read"Dave the Hammer Shultz Book" but in his book he talked about all the fighting he did with the Broad St Bullies but the one regret he had was when he tried to fight Timmy. Timmy put him in a Bear Hug and slammed him to the ice. He said Tim never punched him but he could have easily hurt him bad. Tim just held him down till everything cooled down. Since that alteracation, Dave had the up most respect for Tim and saying he was the strongest man he had ever tried to fight.
Wow, I didn't know that. I haven't read that book (yet) but love hearing these stories and learning. Tim must have been so strong to have the career he had. Thx for sharing and checking out the video. Chris
Tim was my all time favourite. My Dad had Seasons tickets at the Gardens beginning in 1955. I watched Tim playing live countless times but never actually met him in person. I did however meet Tim's daughter Jeri - Lynn at her Tim Horton franchise in Trenton, Ontario and his grandson (son of Jeri-Lynn) at the family owned franchise in Coburg, Ontario. I was at Tim's final game at the Gardens on Wednesday Feb.20, 1974. Incredible that while injured with a wired jaw and in pain, he was still named as one of the "Three Stars" of that game. He never skated out and looped centre ice like the other two (in too much pain) but he still received thunderous applause. In my home, I have a large framed colour photo of Tim in action as a Leaf. Mounted within the frame is my "Greens" ticket stub from that game. (Sad to see the ticket price. A mere $4.50 and great seats. Minimum wage then was $1.50 an hour. Any poor working slob could attend a game after working 3 hours. If you purchased "Greys" or "Standing Room" you could get it for much less.

@@thomasprince4992 And I notice grocery stores in all parts of Toronto have Diwali and Eid signs up weeks before Diwali. From US and on a visit to "never again" in approximately '05, we ate at a TH. Had no idea who he was, it was just a restaurant to us. Didn't have any thing memorable that I remember. Until this video didn't know a thing about him.
Best hockey player ever. I'm a NY Ranger fan today and was a leaf fan but when they traded Tim to NY in the early 70's I was so disappointed I followed Timmy to NY and to this day he never got the attention he deserved as the all round best player ever, even better then Mr. Orr. Sorry Bobby.

He may have lived there at some point but he also lived at 105 Bannatyne Dr. in North York. 105 is a much nicer house in an upscale neighborhood. I lived in that area and everyone knew he lived there. I believe that's where he was living when he was killed. A Google search will confirm this.

Their coffee now is terrible. At on time they used Mother Parkers but changed it somewhere along the line. We met Tim at The People’s Church in Scarborough in the early 70’s.

Fun facts.. many of the Tim's franchises, in big expansion period after his death, were bought by police in Golden Horseshoe. I think for around $100k then. Was a big reason you'd often find cops hanging out in TH's.. was a show of support (and usually given free coffee). Cops were making better $ as a franchisee, so quit the force. I was best friend of Tim owners son (former cop) and watched (often helped) him cuz he was night baker when the biggest bake was done. I usually helped to get done faster so we could go get high and play video games lol
Yes, so true. Even in my area, I knew of a police officer that owned multiple tim jorton franchises. the price to get in sure has changed now. Appreciate you watching and sharing that. Chris
Lately i've watched a lot of videos regarding tim horton and his franchise And I must admit I find Most of the comments regarding Tim Horton's food unfair. They blame Tim Horton's because of the lousy donuts. When in actual fact, you can thank the Government of Canada for that . The food guide was seriously amended in 1992, requiring it to be posted and available for everybody to read and for every single donut to have the exact same amount of sugar, salt calories. What have you , Which means the only way they could regulate that was to make it mass-produced in one facility. And some people say that they're frozen.Yes, they are like everything else you buy.Bread is all frozen because I work for facility. That makes a lot of the tim horton's donuts and bread and it's all frozen before it gets shipped to the stores
Very interesting, I did not know that..I just rememebr as a kid having the freshly baked donuts. We still have a few bakeries in my town that make them fresh, but not what it was. Appreciate you sharing that and checking out the video, I enjoy learning. Chris
The Chinese drink their coffee so franchises can and will only flourish. They tend to always order the smallest coffee size and take like an hour to an hour and a half to drink it.
Appreciate you watching. I agree with you but the lines at the drive thrus in cities I visit show Canadians are sure addicted to Tims. Thanks again!!! Chris
I think you are incorrect about the house in Scarborough. That may have been his childhood home.he was living in North your near Leslie and your mills. When he passed
No, this is the house he bought when he was signed and lived in for most of his life, raising a family. Toronto even wanted to put a plaque outside the home. Unless daughter Kelly has just recently died, she and sister Jeri-Lynn are alive and well to the best of my knowledge. If you posted the above from the tombstone, Lori was Tim's wife. Only Kim and Tracy are buried here in terms of daughters.
@stevemartin6144 i believe you are right. I just searched and 3 daughters were at a banner raising in 2016 (Kim had passed away in 2013) and I see Tracy passed away in 2019. Jeri just retired last year and Kelly is still alive (from what I have read).

That is definitely the house - 1382 Warden Ave. Here is a Toronto Star link if you want to read more about it. www.thestar.com/business/tim-horton-s-old-bungalow-on-market-for-699-900/article_2418685a-61bd-5c94-9842-9486c882777b.html Thx for watching!!!
@@inkedbeardsman yes, this is certainly the first home that he and family owned and lived in but he DID NOT own this house when he was killed on Feb. 21, 1974, nor did he and family live here. Many conflicting stories I think this 1 is more accurate Tim Horton was injured in game and was on pain meds Police were chasing but could not keep up They kept phoning ahead to intercept the vehicle Spikes were thrown across the road at Ontario St causing the wipe out and death of Tim Horton 2 facts..As you entered St Catharines back then the curve at Martindale overpass was much narrower and sharper than it is today and had caused many accidents and deaths and no onramp for police to really sit and wait Yet he managed that curve with no issues #2...Ontario St to Lake St was just a gentle right handed curve with a long onramp for police to wait Early stories were said this is where the police either tried to spike the rd or block him causing the fatal crash A 3rd point worth noting is being unable to catch him they should have just phoned ahead and waited for him at the border
Wow, that is all interesting. I researched all the news reports at the time but there could always be more to the story or various details never released. Hmm, food for thought. Appreciate you sharing that. Chris

Frank Mezzabotta would have survived that crash. That was the guy who flew over the median on a motorcycle on the 401 into incoming traffic with an impact of about 140 miles per. His chest was caved in and he spent 6 months in a body cast. Frank always said a lesser man would have died. Frank rode a motorcycle because he got busted so many times for drunk driving he always kept his helmet visor down when the cops stopped him. @LifeOfAnAutoTech thanks so much!!! wow, that is very interesting. I didn't know that. Yes, the power combined with the alcohol must have been dangerous. Such a tragic ending!!appreciate you watching and sharing that. Chris
From US and on a visit to "never again" in approximately '05, we ate at a TH. Had no idea who he was, it was just a restaurant to us. Didn't have any thing memorable that I remember. Until this video didn't know a thing about him.
I learn another by doing these videos. I didn't know that much about him. Thanks for watching!!!
Yep … I got lost at midnight in downtown Detroit in ‘68 , coming back from Florida …. That’s what I said too “ Never Again !” 🇨🇦🇺🇸

@Dutchy-1168 yeah, not the place you would want to get lost. Lol. Even back in 68
Painkiller addiction from years of bashing n brawling in the bigs was also a big part of Tims life..RIP thanks for the coffees
Yes, I agree. So tragic!!! Thx for watching!
@timross1801 agreed, it's interesting how so many young people don't know just how great Horton was. They simply know the name from the restaurant chain. I even learned a lot when researching the video. Thx for watching!! Chris
Tim Hortons is just a shell of what it was in the 70’s and 80’s.
It sure has changed over the years. Appreciate you checking out the video!! Peace, Chris
he would be ASHAMED of the service and of the food served because neither one is good enough right now.. to maintain what he brought to the game. The coffee was superb. Donuts? Were fresh, light and plentyiful to choose from. Service was FAST and always with a smile.
Tim horton days are numbered because they're not fresh, don't know they're a coffee shop, and forgot the basics of SERVICE. MOVE FAST< WORKERS! They didn't stay local. Now their donuts are few and slathered with sugar glaze.. they don't know if they're coming or going. It's so bad i no longer go there.. and have become barista in my own home.
Gave up going myself .
I lived nearby where it happened. The towing company was Simpsons towing.i saw the car and I was very saddened. I was 20 at the time and will never forget it😢. RIP TIM.
What a memory of such a tragic event. So sad. Appreciate you watching and sharing!!!
Thanks for sharing. 😢
@TheRickyman57 more importantly, thanks for checking it out and coming along!!! Appreciate!
Badly my late father was stuck in the traffic jam caused by his death! He started his restaurant because they made crap for a wage in hockey back then
I believe it about the wages. Very interesting about your dad. He must have been so surprised when he heard who it was. Thx for watching!!! Chris
Ok thanks I'm just surprised he was still playing in his 40s
Yes, a different time and he was so talented, and still held his own. After you watching!
My dad was working the gas station where he filled up at in Oakville
@alandalton1992 really? What a memory to have. Incredible. Just such a tragic chain of events. Appreciate you watching!!! Chris
Back then Oakville was just barren fields.
@parkerbohnn oh, I believe it. Look how fast everything around Toronto exploded and grew.
Good to know and I drink his coffee from Michigan.
Appreciate you watching!!! Chris
great video
@gdbd6181 thanks so much for checking it out!! Appreciate! Chris
He may have lived there at some point but he also lived at 105 Bannatyne Dr. in North York. 105 is a much nicer house in an upscale neighborhood. I lived in that area and everyone knew he lived there. I believe that's where he was living when he was killed. A Google search will confirm this.
Yes, I recently learned this from someone andnI always enjoy learning. This house was his most well known where he lived most of his life. You are correct, he built a house in North York before he passed. I appreciate you watching and glad I learned that. Peace, Chris
The Leafs gave us Tim Hortons. The Canadiens gave us Justin Trudeau.
Their coffee now is terrible. At on time they used Mother Parkers but changed it somewhere along the line. We met Tim at The People’s Church in Scarborough in the early 70’s.
So cool that you were able to meet him!! Yes, that chain sure has gone through changes. Appreciate you watching and sharing that. Didn't know that about the coffee but I do remember a time when the donuts were actually made at the restaurant. Chris
I watched the game and remember the accident..a sad day for all
@HowardTurgel yes, probably a memory that would never leave after hearing what happened. A very sad day. Thx for watching!!!!
I bet he has rolled over a couple time with the change of the product. Resting in peace !
It has changed over the years. Thx for watching!!
Ummm …. Wasn’t his final house on Bannatyne Dr., east of Leslie St., north of York Mills Rd ?
@StylosetPapier yep, this was the house he was most known for, but he built a house in North York and lived there when he passed. Appreciate you watching!!!
Boycotted since it became Singh Hortons. Tim is rolling over in his grave if he knew.
You need therapy
my uncle Jerry Horton is his brother that live in calander near north bay were I live. never got to meet him. great guy though.
@nelsonannett5427 wow, that is incredible!!! Very cool, so glad you watched the video and shared that!! Chris
@@inkedbeardsman my uncle Jerry also had a son named Tim how played lower level pro but the NHL said he was to short to play. we all played hockey back then. enjoyed the vid thanks
@nelsonannett5427 yeah, hockey truly is our Canadian way of life. Imagine if he had made it to the NHL. Would have been wild to have that name on the jersey again.
Very informative, thank you. I can work with this,,,...
@dougiekavanagh7508 appreciate you checking it out and the great feedback!!! Chris
A very humble home just like Bob Goldham home who was my boss in the 70
@gdbd6181 yes, nothing extravagant, very simple. Thx for watching!
Gone but not forgotten 😢
Agreed, he was legendary. Thanks for coming along and remembering him. Chris
Fun facts.. many of the Tim's franchises, in big expansion period after his death, were bought by police in Golden Horseshoe.
Chris
Nice job inked beards man, Mike in Minnesota 👍🏼
@mikeconners1648 thanks Mike!! Appreciate you checking it out!! Hope u have a great week! Peace, Chris
@ I believe they use to have a donut 🍩 shop at the Mall of America, very tasty. Again thank you.
@mikeconners1648 very cool!! Yw. Thx, ts!
Always will be a “ Legend”…………..🌟
😎🤘✌️🌟🇨🇦
@@jerrythecoo3295 absolutely!!! Thanks for watching!
Chris
We had a Tim Horton's in my town but they didn't last long, about two or three months.
The Chinese drink their coffee so franchises can and will only flourish. They tend to always order the smallest coffee size and take like an hour to an hour and a half to drink it.
Interesting, not sure i had heard of a tim hortons going out of business. They have changed over the years though.
What is the house address?
1382 Warden Ave. Thx for watching!! Chris
Good video!! We don't live at Tim's anymore, though. It's sadly an embarrassment these days. And the coffee is absolutely disgusting.
Appreciate you watching. I agree with you but the lines at the drive thrus in cities I visit show Canadians are sure addicted to Tims. Thanks again!!! Chris
@@inkedbeardsman Alas, it's true! I can't figure out what people still see in the place! You're welcome!
Too bad they didn't try harder to stop him from leaving that night.
@mrh6431 yeah, agreed, just a tragic course of events. Thx for watching!!
No one crashes from just drinking booze its when you mix booze and drugs together.
The name sounded familiar so found out he was a talented Hocky Player !!
@@bobbyperry-u5s yep, thanks for watching!!
My father used to watch him play when he played junior A hockey for Saint Michael's.
@parkerbohnn very cool. What an amazing memory that must have been for your dad.
was he still playing hockey at that time or in management
Yes, he was still.playing hockey at the time. Such a tragic accident. Appreciate you watching!!! Chris
He was the third star that night
@kellyniagara6509 really? I don't think I knew that. Very interesting!!!!
We named our son Timothy after him
@charliekroll7333 that's amazing!! So cool. Appreciate you watching!! Chris
I think you are incorrect about the house in Scarborough. That may have been his childhood home.he was living in North your near Leslie and your mills. When he passed
No, this is the house he bought when he was signed and lived in for most of his life, raising a family. Toronto even wanted to put a plaque outside the home. You are correct, he did live in North York in a house he had built when he passed.
www.thestar.com/news/gta/a-plaque-to-mark-tim-hortons/article_8fb36627-74d2-5286-b5e6-20fa9cd58014.html
I just realized that 3 of his 4 daughters are no longer with us. This means Jeri is the sole survivor of Tim’s immediate family 😢.
You know, I never thought about that or realized that. That is very sad!! When I did research, that wasn't something I looked at...thanks for sharing that!
You could have used the toilet that appears at 3:55. It is obviously a public toilet! I love Canada...
@@afwalker1921 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s a toilet 🚽 from Tim Hortons. 😂
@WhatMikeySaid 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You are wrong on the house !!!!...where did you get this information ?!!!....💁♂️
You can read multiple stories, it is a very well documented house both in the Toronto star, globe and mail - well known house. That is definitely the house - 1382 Warden Ave. Here is a Toronto Star link if you want to read more about it.

@@inkedbeardsman yes, this is certainly the first home that he and family owned and lived in but he DID NOT own this house when he was killed on Feb. 21, 1974, nor did he and family live here. By 1965 he and family were living in a large custom made house on Bannatyne Drive between Bayview and Leslie in Toronto.
You are correct! By 1965, the Horton family was living in a brand new house on Bannatyne Drive in Toronto.
Tim Horton got #2 retired in Buffalo and #7 retired in Toronto .
I didn't realize this. Interesting, thx for watching!! Chris
@@inkedbeardsman your welcome
That is impressive…to have your number retired by two different teams.❤😊
@dannymcnamara2554 absolutely. Beyond impressive, but tells you just how good he was.
OVER 60 YEARS 1964 2024😊
Yes, unbelievable. Thanks for watching!!
I wonder if he's turning in his grave because of how his franchise went to crap.
It sure is different today!! Thx for watching!!
Many conflicting stories
I think this 1 is more accurate
Tim Horton was injured in game and was on pain meds
Police were chasing but could not keep up
They kept phoning ahead to intercept the vehicle
Spikes were thrown across the road at Ontario St causing the wipe out and death of Tim Horton
2 facts..As you entered St Catharines back then the curve at Martindale overpass was much narrower and sharper than it is today and had caused many accidents and deaths and no onramp for police to really sit and wait
Yet he managed that curve with no issues
#2...Ontario St to Lake St was just a gentle right handed curve with a long onramp for police to wait
Early stories were said this is where the police either tried to spike the rd or block him causing the fatal crash
A 3rd point worth noting is being unable to catch him they should have just phoned ahead and waited for him at the border
Wow, that is all interesting. I researched all the news reports at the time but there could always be more to the story or various details never released. Hmm, food for thought. Appreciate you sharing that. Chris
The pantera had a new battery ..look in photo the lights are still on. the license plate light is still on and in other photo you can see the smashed red tail light.. neat,,and that was some time after crash in inpound yard..
@tyronebiggims1613 wow, that is such an interesting observation. I never really looked at that or noticed.
Franked worked at the Toronto Board of Education on the jackhammer.
I don’t care for intoxicated drivers. It’s a choice. He had opportunities to not to continue to drive, but his alcohol fueled ego judgement thought otherwise. Thank goodness no one else was involved in his poor decision.
@@umberct appreciate you watching!!! It is a choice but such a tragic choice that changes everything for so many. I lost my best friend as he drank and drove....still painful to this day!! Peace, Chris
Dope and booze ... I talked with one of the OPP officers involved in that pursuit.. Horton was gonna somebody with habitual driving dui
So tragic how it all ended. I know people say that everyone makes their own choice, but stiall sad. Thanostalgic for checking out the video and sharing that. Chris
