He taught me at Billy Harris' hockey school at the old Double Rinks. Powerful skater. His calves were like tree trunks and his arms were scary. Seeing Dave Keon stand beside him was an eye opener. He was quiet, patient and incredibly good with us. Coincidentally, my sister knew Tim's sister, but she didn't tell us. We ended up being a test family for Tim's doughnuts. She told us after the test.
They told him to quit playing hockey and enjoy the fine business he started. He said that he had plenty of time to enjoy his business, he wanted to continue to play hockey. One thing he was noted for was the "Horton Hug". When he fought and got his opponent in a bear hug, the fight was over.
The 50th Anniversary of his death was yesterday (2/21) and neither the Leafs, nor the Sabres broadcasts made mention of it. In fact the Sabres broadcasters showed the "Tim Horton's stats of the day" and didn't even mention it at that point. Beyond pathetic if you ask me
Strange fact that they claim he suffered a broken jaw in his last game, but the coroner in his medical report states he found no evidence of a jaw fracture when physically examining Horton's jaw after the fatal car accident. ???
I believe it was injured in practice the day before. Google "tim horton last game picture" the CBC sports picture shows the right side of his face is swollen.
I am a Maple leaf Fan and I've never known this this is the saddest news I've ever heard and I'm sure Tim Horton was a great guy and if you live in Toronto I'm sorry for you but I don't think I'm hot and killed himself because that would just be bad and I don't think he would do that because he was a great defenceman and he was so good that she probably didn't kill him self and when he was from Buffalo and went to Toronto and his car broke down that just doesn't make sense because his car broke down he didn't kill himself his car broke down
he was doing 120 in a 60 zone on the QEW, his car struck a culvert flipped over, since he was not wearing a seatbelt (not required in 1974) he was ejected the car rolled on to top of him killing him.
She was strung out on booze and pills, so she probably wasn't coherent enough to listen to anyone. She should have made sure that there was a lifetime licensing agreement in place where she and her heirs would get 1% of the revenue in perpetuity.
Lori Horton claims that Tim, her husband " killed himself" " Early on the morning of February 21, 1974, Horton was driving on the Queen Elizabeth Way from Toronto to his home in Buffalo after the Buffalo Sabres had played in Toronto the night before, in his sports car. He lost control and hit a concrete culvert. SOUNDS LIKE A MAN WHO WAS EARNING A LIVING AND PLAYING THE GAME HE LOVED , SINCE 1947 WHEN HE GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL.
Best Leaf defenseman of all time IMO. One of the best of all-time. One of the strongest players of all-time? Certainly amongst those that weren't simply fighters who played forward and averaged like 7:00/game. WHAT A BOSS.
Yeah man. It doesn't make any sense at all. A true tragedy. And not because he founded Timmies. Because he was a class-act and of course, leaving a family behind is devastating.
Hmm. wow. Well if you watch 37:34 onward, it makes a bit more sense she said he committed suicide. He could have braked as he approached the road block. Thing is, he may have thought he could swerve. He was on painkillers because of his broken jaw. He was drunk. His judgment is completely impaired. He was acting strange. He wanted someone to drive with him. I think he knew that he wasn't in a good place and wanted some company. Someone to have his back and keep him from getting too drunk. So, I don't think that's suicide. That's driving under the influence of painkillers and a lot of alcohol. Tragic.
@@tauno4280 It's so odd that such a straight lace, disciplinarian guy like Punch Imlach allowed Tim to drive back home alone in a high powered sports car (Punch doesn't seem like the kind of guy to give that kind of car, more like a family car...), in pain and using pain killers...a bad chain of events for such an awesome and special guy (Really playing great hockey, 3rd star in his last game and the leader of the team!!!!!!!!), God bless him.
My assumption is that they didn't want to be part of this for personal reasons. One is married to the family that bought out the franchise, so it also might be legal reasons. Quite possibly they didn't support their mom's side of the story. Just guessing.

This is an awesome documentary I've never seen before. Thanks
One hell of a shot from the point!
I've watched this 10 times ..cant get enough
Best Leaf defenseman of all time IMO. One of the all-time best to play the position in the league as a whole.
Closest to a perfect defenceman

My favorite coffee. Excellent always

And now its Palestinian owned. How sad to watch this Canadian legacy deteriorating before our eyes
His wife NEVER should have sold her half of that business.. what a bad move!! Didn’t anybody try & talk her out of it???
His wife was the problem that cost his life. Drunk pill popping jack jacking wife can drive any man to madness.

Factoid: His real name was Miles Gilbert Horton

@@elvicare35 Amen to that. Hopefully we'll see him playing hockey up in heaven...
He had 4 Daughters yet there’s only two on here.. where are the other two girls??

This is sad.
Whew, all that money the Horton's lost to sell their share. I'm not sure who owns the company now. At one time Wendy's owned them.
They are now owned by a corporation from Brazil
Burger king. They went to shot after that, actually used to have decent food!
