Tariffs - the importer of record pays the tariff. Let's talk 232 Tariffs on Aluminum. (specifically aluminum from China). Before the 232 Tariffs a 12 pack of 12 oz AL cans of soda cost on average $4.99. The 25% 232 aluminum tariffs had directly impacted the price of the 12 packs, which average $8 to $9.00 now. Meanwhile 20 oz plastic bottles (6 packs) are averaging $5.99 and generally on sale between $3.99 and $4.99. There is no tariff on plastics. You just have to ask Trump: Do you think trade works by the government paying upfront costs? And then companies come and buy that from the government?? With all that extra cost added on, due to Trump's tariffs. It would cost the average American family an extra 4,000 $ per year depending on your city or state, all due to the price hike on everyday products and certain groceries.
Also American businesses that import foreign parts and materials will find their internal costs rising so much they won't be able to compete anymore, especially the smaller ones.
It's so ridiculously simple: the point of tariffs, is.. MAKE IMPORTS MORE EXPENSIVE to consumer. That makes them less desirable (lower demand), protecting domestic products (with likely higher prices otherwise) more competitive as imports are no longer cheaper, etc. That is.. inflationary. Higher price of imports ARE THE ENTIRE POINT. It's not just to collect money for the govt. As Mark Cuban points out succinctly, specific targeted tariffs can make sense to protect some domestic producers/products, from unfairly cheaper imports (dumping or foreign govt subsidies), or to protect domestic industry temporarily until it can catch up costs/scale and then compete more evenly w/ foreign imports (eg Chinese EVs?).. but tariffs on an entire *country*, are just... punitive and inflationary. It is economic warfare on that country, and ... likely blocked by the WTO and other intl fair trade orgs.
This is exactly true, but prices will come down when people stop purchasing those high priced items. The goal is to have American companies move manufacturing back to the United States and out of countries such as Mexico.
Not how it works, once manufacturing moves back to the US prices of whatever is manufactured will sky rocked because USA minimum worker salary is 10 x more then what Chinese factory worker gets. Or are you expecting Americans to work in American factories earning $5 dollars a day? haha.. Yeah didn't think so, you never even thought of why america moved its factories over seas to begin with.
Tariffs also create supply disruptions leading to cost increases beyond the cost of the item. Trumps lumber and steel tariffs, before the pandemic started the inflationary cycle by totally screwing up the housing industry. As a now-retired contractor I know how this went down in 2028-19, and it wasn't good.
While I don’t like the idea of higher prices, having many of our goods being produced from Foreign parties especially in times of War is not a good idea. Also, it is not fair that we import more than we export because other countries refuse to buy our products to avoid paying tariffs.
Better we deal with it than our children, what do you want us to do kick the can down the road like you boomers?? We will deal with it someone has do deal with the mess you created
The reason why tariffs hurt the consumer is because we have no domestic manufacturing. If you want food, and food is only made in china, a tax on the import makes food more expensive. However, the demand for food will never go down because it is required to sustain life, this promotes domestic production of food at a high yet more reasonable price for consumers, soon farms stop popping up to address the need for cheaper food. In the short term, tariffs will hurt the consumer. Long term the goal is to promote domestic production of whatever goods you have been relying on to come from foreign countries, which will eventually be cheaper than the foreign alternative. I dont care what your politics are. We cant allow everything to be imported guys, the world will have us in an economic chokehold in the same way we have the world in a military chokehold. During the tariffs imposed on washing machines in 2018, the government collected billions and the only people it hurt where the consumers who needed to buy washing machines. If washing machines made billions, think ow much all goods from China will generate. And that goes directly into the U.S. economy. This is a unique opportunity. We're about to have whatever the opposite of a recession is.
Raising tariffs on every thing only hurts the consumers. Today there is 25% tariffs on steel Americans buy. Consumers lose in the end.
If you produced the steel domestically there would be no 25% tariff.
You know the biden/Harris regime is selling the oldest steel manufacturer in America to Japan right. Welcome to 35% tariff on steel.

Trump has said his goal is to get to zero tariffs, on all sides. However, tariffs are needed, on a temporary basis, to have leverage to force China to reduce its tariffs on U.S. products and stop its unfair, predatory trade practices. Trump wants fair, level, "reciprocal trade." To offset the tariffs, Trump will lower taxes on U.S. manufacturers and American taxpayers. When you don’t understand what a tariff is, it sounds like a good idea.
So 144 oz of soda in aluminum is double the cost of 120 oz of soda in plastic. Tariffs...
That cost is inflation due to the Biden economy.

This is a man speaking without any real policy. Building plants in the US doesn’t take overnight and finding the workers to fill it and pay. The cost will go up due to infrastructure cost, down time and operation. Who pays for all these? American Consumer!!!
You just have to ask Trump: Do you think trade works by the government paying upfront costs? And then companies come and buy that from the government?? You do realize that trade is done via companies and that tariffs are paid by the US company buying from the foreign companies?? Which then get transferred to American consumers…

With all that extra cost added on, due to Trump's tariffs. It would cost the average American family an extra 4,000 $ per year depending on your city or state, all due to the price hike on everyday products and certain groceries.
...and that's just the average. Imagine how much more it would be, depending on the goods you buy regularly.
@@jcc9549I can't imagine. Get this, anything that says,
"made in China" will cost a lot more . Which is what, 90% everything we buy says that.
It is economic warfare on that country, and ... likely blocked by the WTO and other intl fair trade orgs.
a man had to stand in front of him and explain that basic addition, was in fact basic addition.. and his response was "nah uh"..
Pretty much says it all. Oh, and then there's Trump's fascism to add to that.
This is exactly true, but prices will come down when people stop purchasing those high priced items. The goal is to have American companies move manufacturing back to the United States and out of countries such as Mexico.

Mid Continent Nail was facing layoffs before they negotiated an exemption from the tariffs. 45 is bad for US manufacturing.
Trump didn't learn a thing during his two years going to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. 😮
His daddy paid for the fake diploma
He never actually attended classes.
No mention of him ever graduating.
While I don’t like the idea of higher prices, having many of our goods being produced from Foreign parties especially in times of War is not a good idea. Also, it is not fair that we import more than we export because other countries refuse to buy our products to avoid paying tariffs.
We had to bail out the farmers twice.
Billions of dollars of soy rotting.
His supporters made excuses like 'Oh, just grow a different crop.' Like this is a Mine-Craft type game instead of the real world
Better we deal with it than our children, what do you want us to do kick the can down the road like you boomers?? We will deal with it someone has do deal with the mess you created
Harris win america great 💙💙
The reason why tariffs hurt the consumer is because we have no domestic manufacturing.
Everyone buys weapons from us for a reason because we have a monopoly on the best weapons.
1/3 pound burger failed cause 1/4 burger was bigger, 4 is bigger then 3 for the idiots. Good luck with all those graph to tell what's good for them.
Maybe he can incorporate those graphs into colouring books?
Lol. Thats absolutely true. Only in america
Something rarely mentioned is that our trade deficit with China increased exponentially during Trump's administration.
You need to tattoo those graphs on trumps forehead
We need more of this across the entire political spectrum. Facts supported by the numbers..
GOP and Trump is definately the best for the economy. That is why Obama and Biden have had to clean up their predecessors mess.
Democrats to the rescue. As an outsider, I noticed that. The GOP always enters at a good economic time and then screws it up. Never fails.
Sure is a slick move after two terms to sign something really expensive in to law that doesnt take effect until it's the other guy's turn. Been doing that since the late 60's
@@laserflexr6321 Who signed what? Not following.
@@RaFox_17 Obamacare is not the best example but probably is the best known example. So complex that it took years for the effect to become evident from the cause. Dramatically increased most people's health care costs, to subsidise the cost for a relative few. How could it possibly be cheaper when it added 10's of thousands of government jobs that have to be paid one way or another, and caused a LOT more paperwork for everyone involved?
@@laserflexr6321 It cut rate of uninsured people by millions. American healthcare system is more expensive than other rich countries and results are also worse. Obamacare is not the reason. Obamacare can’t be that bad as the GOP still has not figured out a better option.
