In Shia tradition, we turn to prayers that similarly guide us toward patience and self-mastery, particularly in moments of trial. While both Stoicism and Shia teachings encourage us to embrace challenges, one difference is that Shia spirituality also emphasizes a personal relationship with God as a source of comfort and strength.
Absolutely true and I add to that it's to hold in mind a very clear and complete vision of the type of life going by principles of excellence, achievement and success which defines the overall meaning of your accomplishments and the way one lives every situation he/she partakes to
The practical tips shared here are so helpful - especially the idea of setting daily intentions to stay present and embrace change. It’s easy to get caught up in regrets or anxieties, but staying grounded in the now truly helps us become more resilient.
We are glad you found the tips helpful. Setting daily intentions is a powerful Stoic practice that keeps us rooted in the present. As Marcus Aurelius reminds us, “Confine yourself to the present.” Focusing on today helps us let go of regrets about the past and anxieties about the future, allowing us to face each day with clarity and resilience. Embracing this practice truly strengthens our inner peace. Keep it up.
Don’t think about the start of the race. Think about the ending. Life takes on meaning when you become motivated, set goals and charge after them in an unstoppable manner.
Wise words as always. A true Stoic mindset. We gain our character, strength and resilience through the journey more than the destination. Thank you for watching our videos and supporting our channel. We appreciate it.
I tried to keep calm when somebody crossed all limits today but then I put her in place, later I thought about staying stoic but it's as difficult to apply as calming it sounds to listen.
It's great that you stood up for yourself. Stoicism doesn't mean passive tolerance. It's about responding calmly and rationally. By putting someone in their place respectfully, you're setting boundaries while maintaining your inner peace. Remember, Stoicism is about finding the balance between calmness and assertiveness.
It's understandable to lose composure when faced with disrespect. Stoicism teaches us to focus on our own reactions, not others' behavior. Next time, try your best to stay calm and assert your boundaries without reacting to their anger. It's about controlling what you can-your own response. Remember, the person using curse words and being disrespectful is reflecting their own character, not yours. By staying calm and assertive, you show respect for yourself and maintain your dignity. Their actions are a reflection of them, not you.
"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love." - Marcus Aurelius "Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them. Think constantly on the changes of the elements into each other, for such thoughts wash away the dust of earthly life." - Marcus Aurelius I'm sorry you're going through this. Marcus Aurelius said, "If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it." Stoicism reminds us to focus on controlling our response to stress and finding peace within. Take time to care for your well-being-your inner calm is key. There is always a brighter day ahead waiting for us. There is always another opportunity waiting for us. Keep your head up and stay strong. Stay Stoic friend.
I can only listen to a certain amount of this stuff.......so,I get some of it .....the bit that you can't do anything about anything and just shut up, accept it, work around it ......well don't we all do this anyway? But if the same thing keeps happening then do something about it whatever that involves. We are not all born to saintly behaviour or thinking, so why do we need to pretend. I can only think of one aspect of keeping quiet and calm and that's your blood pressure!
I understand where you're coming from. Stoicism often gets misunderstood as just "shutting up and accepting" things passively, but that's not the full picture. It’s not about being passive or pretending to be saintly. Instead, Stoicism is about taking action where you have control, and letting go of the things you can't change. It's not about doing nothing-it's about choosing the most rational response. If the same thing keeps happening, Stoicism encourages you to address it in a calm and strategic way, rather than letting frustration or anger drive your actions. It’s more about clarity than silence. And yeah, staying calm definitely helps with the blood pressure, but it's really about protecting your peace and energy, so you can tackle problems more effectively without getting overwhelmed. Stoicism is about real-world resilience, not perfection. You don’t have to be saintly, just intentional in how you respond to life’s challenges. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. Stay tuned for more videos. We publish 3 educational philosophical videos every week packed full of wisdom and insights, connecting the ancient stoics to the modern world.
…..by the way, you’re gonna have a hard time training your mind for much of anything if you’re addicted to porn! Porn literally re-programs your mind. Most of you probably knew this, but 10 to 1, there’s somebody who thinks they can ride both sides of the “fence”……good luck with that one.
This is true. We have discussed the discipline of desire in many of our videos. Perhaps we will publish a video in the future that focuses on this more deeply. Thank you for watching. Stay Stoic friend.
