i thnk hes a better song writer then a guitar player. Genius level BTW
We really need to appreciate these legends while they are still around
Legends are dead.
@bobabooey4537 not true. There are "legends in their own time". And also "living legends".
@@roberto3262 Exactly, Michael Jordon, Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks,Tiger Woods, Michael Schumacher still alive folks
@@ehLeanne311 don't forget Nancy Pelosi 😂
@@roberto3262Moronic
What a treat it is to see and hear paul demonstrating his fingerpicking skills!
Agreed!!
it's actually unsettling to see his gollum nails
@@FAYMprod It is!

Love watching a master discuss his craft.
I love it when he says: "I am a good guitar-player, but..." It's not a brag, or even a humble brag; it's a statement of fact which leads to the point he is about to make.
This was by far the best Stern interview in years.
Paul Simon is a global treasure 😀🎸🎶❤️
I'm tearing up watching this video, what a legend.
“The guitar is like a universe” was a beautiful thing to say
His Martin was simply gorgeous.
@@kingrobert1st A signature model D-42...
@@kingrobert1st I meant an OM-42!!
Paul’s interviews are really good, early songs like “Flowers Never Bend” and “For Emily……..” sound as beautiful as ever, and he’s always on a quest to learn more, like he said about playing guitar, “It’s a universe!” The real deal.
That's who I learned fingerpicking from. He was a real hero to me. America and The Boxer are still two of my favorite songs ever.
This was so moving. Playing the guitar is like speaking or maybe even breathing to Paul. So much knowledge is given here. Love it
Thanks million Mr.Stern...❤
A national treasure. I had the incredible honor of shaking his hands once after a Paul McCartney concert at MSG in 1989.
His hands-plural? Did you shake both of them?
It all goes back to Travis picking… such a guitar magician.
We need this Full interview uploaded please! What a legend. What a talent. Could watch & listen to Paul Simon for hours.
Why am I crying?😭😭😭
What a treat. Paul Simon's most recent release, Seven Psalms, prominently features his acoustic guitar. It is as if he went back to his musical roots and combined them with decades of experience. The songwriting is very sophisticated, and a delight for fan's of Paul's guitar playing.
“I’m just fooling around”. Love it!
Thank you Paul Simon for your music and Graceland in particular! You saved me in times I felt scared. You are a legend.
He's very right about the guitar. I also get uncomfortable or bothered if I go more than a day without picking it up. Although I feel like I need to do legato and alternate picking exercises every day to keep my chops and finger constitution up to par. It is an endless love with no final destination.
When he talks about comfort, that really hit home for me. I feel uncomfortable without my guitar. It's a very special feeling.
Everything about this was magic.
That was beautiful. It's great to see his love for playing is still strong.
Criminally underrated guitar player.
Explain why...
Underrated?!? Paul Simon?!? What???
Nobody underrates Paul Simon, nobody.
I know what you mean, but Paul Simon is anything but underrated.
Agreed
I learned fingerpicking in the 80s playing his songs. Still play them today. Timeless masterpieces.
His playing is what got me playing the guitar. I learned fingerpicking also playing his songs. Though, the Travis picking method I actually learned from Dust in the Wind... lol.
Me too, back in the 70s. The Boxer...one of my absolute favorites. Still in my performing lineups, and I've always said, if I ever get a boxer, I'd name him Paul Simon!
Most direct, succinct explanation of the Travis pick that I've ever heard. A distillation to the essence of what it is.
...at 81! tooo good...cheers Paul.
Genius musician, singer, songwriter!
Love the new thing he played at the end, those are beautiful chords.
I took a guitar class and Travis picking was taught. I was hooked on it ever since. It just sounds more musical than strumming chords.
Travis Barker?
Merle Travis
you can combine the two. strumming chords and also travis picking over chords. best of both worlds
Paul Simon is a legend, will always be a legend.
What an outstanding interview. I always had Paul as the number one guy I wanted to hear Howard interview, with trepidation that they wouldn't jive. So glad this exists.
He’s endlessly interesting in interviews. What a treat he lets us inside.
Paul Simon is a superb and an extraordinary guitar player and musician...
An American treasure
Paul Simon 72’ album is a total masterpiece. Some of his best deep cuts
Love Paul.Such an enormous influence on me learning to play guitar.Thank you.❤
One of the greatest to ever do it 🙌 God bless paul
A genius song writer and musician. Respect!
Yup. That's all there is to it. Infinite possibilities from one technique. Love it.
I too picked up the guitar at Bar-Mitzvah age. My early teachers always told me that I had a natural knack with fingerstyle. Always loved Paul's playing.
How I understand Paul 'bout the need of playing guitar every day. I am just a 70 years old amateur guitar player and every morning after my breakfast I have to pick the guitar and try to write something even if the words don't come easily.
God bless Paul.❤
Such a humble artist! A true musician!
Man I could watch Paul Simon all day!!
great lesson about the thumb
One of the Greatest Singer Songwriters EVER !
Wow Paul. decades on, you just reminded me why I picked up my first guitar. ty
Howard’s youtube posts have the best commercials
Wow, hypnotic!
That was a nicely done interview, I enjoyed the enthusiasm of both host and Paul, cool 😎👍
Paul Simon's unique guitar playing is always music to my ears--like Ray Manzarek's keyboards still are.
So true!
while i listened to the entire interview i wasn't as captivated as i am watching it .. nice job
Gifted for sure
Paul Simon is unrivaled
Absolutely brilliant love his guitar playing and the songs he wrote where out of this world a legend
I have a lot of love for this
I started listening to you and Paul in the 1960s when I was a teen, and I still love and appreciate it very much
genius on guitar
Simon is an inspiration!! Writing great songs for almost 70 years!!! I sing “ St Judy’s Comet “ to my grandkids when they stay overnight! When I would hear he had a new album, I didn’t have to hear it. I knew there would be great music on it!
God bless him!!
Paul Simon is up there with Lennon /Mcartney musical genius great interview thanks loved Mystery Train intro 💜💙💚
Very interesting! Paul Simon has just broadened my horizons! Thanks Mr. Simon!
Best song writer ever
Definitely in the top 5!
Paul's guitar is very beautiful and fun to play.
Thanks Paul. Been following you since Graceland when I was 12
A hero to me beginning to play guitar 60 yrs ago
Magical musical genius, so lucky to have him❤
So nice to hear Paul Simon hitting dull notes and buzzy notes too!
Paul Simon stood on the shoulders of roots music giants and became the giant on whose shoulders so many modern musicians can stand.
Amazing talent. Love the demonstration and the artist.💐
Thank you Howard Stern, simply the best person to bring the humanity of the artist to our eyes and ears!

A living legend teaching us music skills
Howard is really a great interviewer with the icons. These sessions are historic.
Paul Simon has written some of the most amazing songs in the last 100 years.
Wow indeed
I think of all the greats he is the most centred and articulate. He is so close to his art. What an inspiration.
And that is why I love Paul Simon 🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Great stuff
Cheers from “down under”. Please come to visit us Paul here in sunny Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 … soon 🙏🙏
what a tease those parts were! sounded so good!
Learned to play listening to Paul - vastly underrated as a guitar player and innovator
Paul is one of the tastiest guitarist ever...'The Rhythm of the Saints' his masterpiece!
Es un gran maestro, gracias a Paul Simon tenemos grandes canciones.
Paul Simon is an excellent guitar player..very impressed 🎶🙂🕊️
Class and skills...worked hard to get and keep! Love the sound.
Always loved Paul's music, and guitar playing, and appreciate his skills.
But he did learn A LOT when he came to England, and hung around with the English Folk artists of that time, Bert Jansch etc, and he took a lot from their styles and added it to his own.
In particular Bert’s version of Davy Graham’s Anji
One of my guitar heroes!
Great musical sense & inspiration, thanks brother, God Bless !!!
Wowww! Great Paul Simon!😍😍🌻🌻
Wonderful stuff ❤❤❤❤
Thanks Paul for sharing your fingerpicking skills...
One of the best… ever!
Great job fellas. Both of you.
At the End of a great life and beautiful music; the master show us how to carry the flag of the past in to the future!
It is great to know that PS is still motivated and inspired by the guitar.
Lovely stuff Paul.
I have always admired Paul as an acoustic guitarist. I don't think I'd be writing folk songs today if it wasn't for Simon and Garfunkel. Maybe they didn't get along, but they recorded incredible music together.
