I love the way he melds jazz, funk , soul , rock and the newest baby hip hop effortlessly in his playing. Not another like him . The visuals are straight out of some 80s vhs recorded concert . Dope.
These dudes really do inspire so many people. The music industry has been a mess for decades and it’s really amazing to finally see incredibly talented musicians using new tech as an instrument itself as well as showing everyday musicians that you don’t have to be on the charts to be legendary. No doubt that these cats will be leading the industry for decades to come just like those before them. (Coltrane, Davis, Montgomery, Ellington, ETC.)
RG I LOVE YOU AND HAVE LISTENED TO THIS EVERDAY SINCE 2019 WHILE WRITING IN THE MASTERS PROGRAM AND NOW THE DOCTORATE... I CANNOT WRITE WITHOUT IT AND WWOZ. IN THE BACHELOR'S PROGRAM IT WAS LEVELS, MOOD, ETC. YOUR CREATIVE JUICES FLOW FROM YOU TO ME. I THANK GOD FOR YOU AND THESE BRILLIANT MUSICIANS. This Band & Kamasi Washington's Epic Traveling Circus, gotta be the best music of new music on the road today...IMHO
There's def too damn little good quality extensive footage of their live performances, so it's even more precious to have it here, especially that it might have been a single-shot project never to be seen again (still hope NOT though). Absolutely ultimate blend of musical mastery with emotional saturation, played without a stick in the ass. Might be the album of my life! Thx!

I love Robert Glasper, but this adds something new to what I've heard before. It's like a massage for the brain and body, heart and soul, all at once. It's a long form, that invites you to travel with it, in a different dimension.
(Writing as I listen for the first time!)
Now adding some spoken word politics and philosophy, then the awesome drum solo and backing combination at 39' ish.

@@geefree Thanks! I know during this period they opened a lot of their sets with Butterfly, but this version and even the solos are a bit different. Wonderful version . . .

@@geefree I mean Derrick Hodge is just a monster! For me the # 1 bass player in jazz & other genres right now . . .just tremendous how he holds that line as Glasper weaves in and out . . .
