  • Devotional - A Performance Filmed by Anton Corbijn is a video release by Depeche Mode, featuring almost an entire concert from their 1993 Devotional Tour, filmed in Barcelona, Spain (Palau Sant Jordi), Liévin, France (Stade Couvert Régional) and Frankfurt, Germany (Festhalle). It was directed by Anton Corbijn, and released in 1993. It was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Long Form Music Video in 1995. The soundtrack was recorded in Liévin, Stade Couvert Régional, on 29 July 1993.
    Setlist:

    1:34:15 Everything Counts
    1:39:44 Death's Door (Acoustic) (Credits)
This tour was particularly notable for the personal troubles the band members were struggling with at the time, most notably Dave Gahan's heroin addiction. The video is the last release to feature Alan Wilder before his departure in 1995.
In 2004, the movie was re-released in DVD. The film is the same, but there are extras, such as songs that were left out of the VHS movie for time (but they have to be viewed separately), isolated footage of setlist projections, an interview with Corbijn on Devotional, pictures from the Devotional Tour booklet, and all the music videos from the Songs of Faith and Devotion era. For the first time, the complete soundtrack of Liévin is available (Halo was the only missing song before the release of the 2 DVD set). Only a few dead airs and speeches were edited.
    In 1993 Depeche Mode were:
    Alan Wilder
    Martin Gore
    Dave Gahan
    Andrew Fletcher

@steve86 I saw them in Houston in October 1984 with my beloved sister. She took me for my birthday- we were 3rd row center. Dave touched her hand during that show. She was killed less than 2 1/2 months later. She is still with me today and every single time I listen or watch Depeche! I never dreamed I would get to see that show other than in memory. You & DM have brought such joy to my heart today.
      Thank you for sharing this.

The reason why I public these concerts is because I know that not everyone has the money to buy this type of material that the band offers, in addition to the fact that the physical format has become less common, I don't make money with this, I just make the material of one of my favorite bands more accessible to everyone

I really have an issue with the cell phones. For those of us who really want to experience the concert, they are so distracting. And then, OMG, the way the audience sings huge parts of some songs. I came to hear the artist not some tween singing out of tune or a 6 year old in momma's arms hollering the song as loud as he/she can. Guess I'm just getting old, though. Think of this, though -- they don't allow cell phones at the symphony or a play or the ballet, etc. I remember back then when I would go on vacation, some people were more concerned with getting photos that anything -- and I really hated it when they didn't bring their camera and would be stopping me every 5 wanting me to take a picture of them. I started leaving my camera at home and buying postcards of the major sites I saw -- then I could experience everything -- why be thinking about a camera when you are standing on the edge of a volcano or under a 20 ft tall waterfall. -- LIVE IT IN REAL TIME is my motto.

@@3k3k3 I don't think Corbijn talked about using DV video. DV video wasn't a thing until 1995, and it couldn't have been used for filming in 1993. It seems the production was filmed using traditional film stock, which the credits suggest. But the DVD quality isn't great due to a low-quality transfer, making the visuals look worse than the original film.

Shure, Dave Gahan is an incredible frontman. Shure, without him, it would be différent. But, without Martin Gore, Fletch, and, to my opinion, one of the best drummer of the history of music, Alan Wilder, Depeche Mode exists, but, not in this kind of osmose and perfection. But, it is only my opinion. I saw them live three times, the last time was without Alan, but, another spirit, but shure, so good too. But this gig, here, brings music to another level.... I enjoy too so much Depeche Mode live 101....

y'all i've only very recently (like, within the last month kinda recently) become a hardcore DM fan. so funny because i am a huge electronic music fan and old school raver, i always knew of DM and loved their singles, but i was going through a rough patch and something just drew me to them, and particularly Policy of Truth, the instrumental version i could NOT get enough of... so then i started taking the deep dive into everything they've done, watching their live shows from the earliest days to attending the Memento Mori concert a couple weeks ago. this has been a magical journey and is healing my soul. Also Alan Wilder has become something of a mythical figure to me and wow what a presence he has in this group and as an extraordinary musician. i'd love to go see him these days. this is so beautiful and i'm over the moon and addicted to DM now.

This introduction has to be not only the best in DM history, but maybe in live touring musical history. Watching it time and time again since it's release on DVD and watching it on TH-cam, still gives me a natural high that is unmatched. The sounds, the keyboard, the colors, the lightning and thunder sequence, his voice, his look and of course, the lyrics. This is dm at their absolute pinnacle in my humble opinion. This is where electrics, organics, blues, edgy rock riffs and spiritual melodies and words came crashing in and simply mixed into a bloody cocktail of passionate perfection. There is something here for all fans alike no matter your tastes. Lastly, can I just say the the reworking of the I introduction of the songs and the backing tapes and all the different sound scales here in the live songs that Alan Wilder created with I think the help of maybe one or two others unloved in this show and touring are absolutely incredible. The beginning of World In My Eyes is unmatched here by any tour since the song was released and they have toured and some of the trip hop in Flies On A Windscreen is such good shite. Holy moly pass the Devotional guacamole.

For the first time in my life the Violator LP entered my life, and it changed me completely, a totally new sound, it made me feel independent, alive, mature in a way, it totally changed me!! Years later to be exact in December 8th 1998 for the first time I was able to see them in concert, I still have the concert stub!! I saw three times Depeche Mode in live. The last time, Alan Wilder was not. And, i think that Alan is such an underrated musician. To my opinion, he is one of the best drummer in the history of music. It seems each movement he does is in perfect symbiosis with Depeche Mode's Soul and Music. Every other project Alan has is perfection. And, here, despite of the sad addiction Dave has with heroin, we can move on another world, the perfect world these guys of Basildon are showing us. And i don't want to leave this weird, dark, but so beautiful and trippy world, this Depeche Mode 's heart and Soul (yeah, Heart and Soul is one of my favorite Joy Division 's song....). ❤ So, Reach out and Touch Faith....

I’m so grateful for this upload! I saw this concert in Montreal in 1993, where Dave famously lost his voice during Condemnation. He struggled for the rest of the show and the concert was cut short, only lasting about 1.5 hours including encores. It was a terrible night for the band and a disappointing one for the fans. The upside is that I got invited to the after show party in Martin’s hotel room after. I was too star struck to talk to him (and at that point he was VERY wasted) but hey, it’s been giving me bragging rights with DM fans since then 😆

Visited, watched, enjoyed one hell of a show, subscribed!
I am a D⚘M fan since 1985 or 1986. My first "encounter" with them was "A question of lust". Little did i know about them back then. We didn't have access to foreign music, culture, no way getting out of the country, etc., as we were locked from the inside. But some of my friends/neighbours had family and relatives in West Germany and shared a lot with us: posters, music on cassettes, basic things actually, but so valuable to us.
And, as i mentioned earlier, i didn't even know who they were, how did they look like, but i just fell in love with their sound. Months later i finally managed to find and watch some videos on VCR and... loved them ever since.
'Ve seen them live twice 2006(their first visit in Romania) and July 26-th, some days ago. I am happy to have lived and see them grow, God knows what their next steps and plans are going to be. As everyone else, i truly hope they'll have the strength and whatever it takes to bring Alan back. Then... i believe their mission is fully completed for them as a band and fans alike.
Thank you for sharing a true gem, stay safe!

But most of all, what i love of this concert is Wilder playing drums. It´s a pianist but synthesizer man who gets to the drums and shows everyone a new mode of playing, and how it´s done. At the time of the biggest band crisis, drugs, alcohol, etc.usually the strongest works come out of people.SOFAD is a jewel of rock history.
I was at the concert in my hometown of Prague.I was right under the stage,I will never forget how Martin and I exchanged glances and smiles.Magical moment, magical tour.
    IMMORTAL LEGENDS!

I saw this tour in Atlanta with The The opening. A truly epic show! I’ve never forgotten the beginning with the tall shadow projections on those giant curtains. Awesome staging, and amazing sound too. This was DM at their peak powers!!

My first Depeche Mode show after being a fan for many years. Traveled from Albuquerque to Los Angeles to see them at the Forum thanks to my brother who lived out there at the time. Absolutely stunning. I've been fortunate to go to a few concerts but the beginning of this show has to be the best I've personally seen. I love the band, but Alan Wilder Depeche Mode will always be my favorite version.

I have a great story about this-I saw them in Phoenix on the 11/18/93. I ended up doing meth the first time that night at an after party 🤦🏻‍♀️
During this first binge, my friend and I decided to drive to LA to see them at the Forum, it was Tuesday 11/23/93. The following weekend after Thanksgiving, we drove to Vegas, and that show got cancelled. This whole story, combined with the set list is metaphoric of the turn my life took during that time, and a source of spiritual inspiration today in my sobriety. I will return full circle on 12/10/2023, at the Forum as they skipped AZ this time around 😢

    Excelente video, sonido e imagen.
