A video on your approach to compression in a worship setting would be very cool.
Thanks! I actually use it pretty subtly - I'm not a fan of highly compressed guitars (although they sound cool). I almost always go for the Deluxe comp or the LA comp in the Helix, which would be comparable to something like a Keeley Compressor or a Cali76. I set the threshold low enough so that a good portion of my signal is being compressed, and then I set the compression setting at around 4:1 (which isn't terribly high). Then I like to use the output of the compressor to push the overall signal into the amps and drive them a bit. I also leave it on all the time.
To me a great compressor will add a little bit of magic and life into a signal, even if it's not compressing it all that much. The way I run compression doesn't really squash the tone (I would never want to use something like an SP Comp or MXR DynaComp - those are more 'squishy' sounding compressors) - it more just evens things out a bit and adds some magic.
People don't really talk much about the compressors in the Helix, but they are very, very good. And a good sounding compressor is more important in the overall tonal spectrum than many people realize.

First patch I bought from you guys! Sounds great on this video, but playing that intro snapshot with filtertrons sounds like buzzing bees for some reason. I tweaked it and made it work with another snapshot and added some chorus given that Taylor Johnson definitely is using that!

Sounds Awesome! Great playing! Is it just me or is every single Wickham lead line starting to sound like a variation of itself? Sounds pretty much identical as Your Love Awakens Me.
The_Wretched that’s what happens when you have Taylor Johnson (Wickham’s guitar player) play on every album. He’s famous for vb-2 lines. He practically never turns it off and it’s the main ingredient in his signature sound. Also, all 3 of Wickham’s latest guitar-y singles (This Is Amazing Grace, Your Love Awakens Me, Great Things) all are b-e-string lead lines and they’re all in roughly the same key (Bb, B, B).

Is there any way to port these patches over to an HX Effects unit? If I purchased could I see all levels and dial in as close as I can?
So I built out the patch in HX Effects - everything exactly at the same settings as in the Helix.
I tried it running into a clean amp in both the Kemper and Axe FX III. It did not sound nearly as good as the Helix. I think it's for two reasons:
1) The amp settings have to be just as dialed in as the effects. In this patch I'm using a Matchless DC-30 model, and I'm pushing it with the compressor. I think the compressor pushed the Kemper/Fractal amps too much. Once I backed the comp's output down, it was better, but still not as good as the Helix in overall tone.
2) All the wet effects run after the amp and cab in the Helix patch. You can't do this in HX Effects unless you somehow get your amp into HX Effects via the effects loop, and it's hard to set up a patch and hardware to do that. Because all the wet effects run into the front of the amp when you use HX Effects, the end result is much more mud than if they ran after.
That's not to say those units sound worse than Helix - they sound fantastic when you make a preset or performance on them from the ground up.
I can still make these patches available in HX Effects - just copying the effects blocks and snapshots, but my fear is that people will be disappointed in them unless they tweak their amps and rigs accordingly.
@@worshiptutorials Thanks for the excellent response. I'm running my HX Effects through my effects loop on my amp with the 4 cable method. it occupies one of my available blocks but otherwise seems pretty straight forward. I guess what I -wish- I could do would be to purchase one of these patches knowing that I would need to tweak but I could learn a ton by taking your settings as a starting point. Currently, listening to this song, I don't even know where to begin to replicate the various tones with this (new to me) unit. I don't actually need this particular song - mostly trying to see if this would be possible when I start playing again on stage in the new year. I understand this might not be feasible for you guys - it's a wish :)
adventurepromo don’t quote me, but there’s definitely some chorus on for the intro line (and probably the whole song), a dotted 1/8 and 1/4 delay combo and lots of compression. For the bridge it seems he ups the chorus amount considerably and/or adds vibrato.
