I was desiring to learn the key of b just to learn phil wickham songs. I wanted to get into worship on guitar more and saw an interview where he plays in this key a lot with down tune live. I have even been playing all week with a down tuned guitar having fun, lol. I am a novice campfire guitarist and love worship. This video was a real answer to prayer. Praise God. It was really neat seeing him teach it himself. 🌈🕊🐑
Oh wow, he actually made a tutorial video himself! Phil seems like a really down to earth guy. Not shocking, but was somewhat pleasantly surprised by that 😊
Phil, I'm a Tucson praise team drummer/ singer and I just Left the service out with Great Things. It's such a wonderful, upbeat masterpiece that puts a smile on many faces..Thank you and God keep blessing you!
Your worship music is beautiful I sing worship songs to my patients and children at the hospital I work I hope to be as anointed as you one day to heal the worlds with my voice and music
Love your music Phil. Our God HAS done great things. He will help us in this situation. Youplay beatifully and your singing is amazing. God bless you and your family.
Awesome! First time i saw you, or even heard of you, was over in England. You where with Martin Smith, Matt Redman, and the other Worship Together crew! Blessed beyond measure by your ministry of worship!
I love you dude! You're so real and that is refreshing. I wish my daughter could meet you. We love your music and she has to learn your songs for church. She is auditioning to be the youth worship leader at church and that is what actually brought me to this video.
i finally got a guitar and all the songs i've learned so far are Phil's so i'm watching this video and i get to the part that he says, " because I'm not that good of a musician" I was like wow Phil your so humble so i got to tell you thank you for being humble. but you are a great musician.
Hello Phil, I heard your new song Great Things for the first time on my radio. I love the way your heart of worship comes through loud and clear in your beautiful new song! I lead worship for our congregation here in San Diego and look forward to sharing it in our congregation. God Bless You.
Yes I’ve always loved the way you tuned down. Grace with the open strings ringing! I can’t believe I forgot how to play grace the way you played it acoustically. Phil’s the man! Better thank Mr John for all that talent! 🤓 great lesson
Dude!! I didn't know you did tutorials. That's awesome!! Really good and clear instructions. We are finally playing this in our church so I went looking for some instruction on how the song is played. Found this video. Thanks Dude!!! You Rock!!
That’s the note I call right there, right there and right here. 😂 so grateful for you man. You helped level up my acoustic guitar playing just by watching you play over the last 10 years.
Dear Phil, you made it look so easy, but the song is absolutely musical and powerfully moving. Well done artist, expect more tutorial videos. Thank You, God bless you!
It's so reassuring to know that Phil knows about as much as I do about the guitar 😂 I don't know the theory behind the guitar, just what sounds good. Thanks Phil!
Thanks Phil for being an inspiration for all of us. Just to say something, the link on this video to chords chart won't work. Only if you go directly to your web page, God bless you.
He's been uploading tutorials for a while :) You can find younger Phil teaching us how to play This Is Amazing Grace, Cannons, and other great songs like that! 😆
Is super cool to learn that a professional guitarist leaves their guitar tuned down a half or whole step all the time. I’ve thought of doing that, but wasn’t confident in leaving it like that. Do you use a larger gauge of strings to accommodate the lessened tension?
Hey phill I think I do better playing by ear! What’s a effective way to play if I have trouble with memorizing notes! I also want to buy a guitar for the first time. What would be the best. Thank you 😊
There are a few reasons, but I believe Phil does it so there's less string tension thus making it easier for him to play all these chords he likes to mess with in most of his songs. Especially with Phil being a very percussive acoustic player, tuning up or down a half step really changes the feel/sound of heavy strumming.
I don't know in this case but I heard him say recently that sometimes he tunes his guitar a whole step lower so he can play in a certain key with a certain chord structure
key of B (with 5 sharps) is tough for keyboard/piano players. not sure it's a great idea. of course most praise teams keyboard players only chord. key of E is hard enough for them. haha therefore, not many hymns were written in these keys. not too many guitar players back then ... just a thought.
The fact that he's so accomplished, but still cant name all the notes on the fretboard made me laugh, warmed my heart, and greatly encouraged me. :)
Phil you are my worship inspiration. I became a worship leader because of you! Thank you for you diligence.

Saw a video of him talking about how he uses B shapes for his solo acoustic stuff and this is exactly what I was looking for to explain it!
He basically plays like this in most if not all his song acoustic tutorials
Oh wow, he actually made a tutorial video himself! Phil seems like a really down to earth guy. Not shocking, but was somewhat pleasantly surprised by that 😊

God Bless you awlays, That God always gives you wisdom to keep playing and signing songs during these tough times. Greetings from Seattle Washington.
Great playing!! You have set the standard on strumming with the right hand...flawless!! Blessings
Haha, I love how when going through your notes you allow yourself to be transparent “that note, that note, and....that note!” ROFL. That is awesome

@PhilWickham could you please do a tutorial of Secret Place with the shapes that you use in the acoustic version?
i wish i could bar cord, this song sounds awesome to play
Phil: I’m not that good of a musician
Me: *spits water* THAT BE SOME FALSE INFORMATION
Yes
"I have a really fancy way of playing in B, but you don't have to do it..." CHALLENGE ACCEPTED ;D
What kind of acoustic are you playing?
Ziegenfuss
Haven't watched a video like this since canons ..grade 11 year

That note, right there, is a G#
Hey phill I think I do better playing by ear! What’s a effective way to play if I have trouble with memorizing notes! I also want to buy a guitar for the first time. What would be the best. Thank you 😊
What kind of pick do you use, Phil?
What guitar is he playing does anyone know? It’s beautiful
Ziegenfuss guitars
Wow dude
Tagal mg simula!
Yes - well it's good to play well (Ps.66) but if only I could sing like that, I wouldn't worry a lot about my guitar playing!
God bless! The link to the chord chart no longer works :(
Does anyone know why he tunes a half or full step down? Is it because it’s easier for him to sing in that key?
There are a few reasons, but I believe Phil does it so there's less string tension thus making it easier for him to play all these chords he likes to mess with in most of his songs.
Especially with Phil being a very percussive acoustic player, tuning up or down a half step really changes the feel/sound of heavy strumming.
My brother met you when he was NJ little and gave you a drawing
What guitar is that?
How did he tune the guitar he played G but sounds like A
I don't know in this case but I heard him say recently that sometimes he tunes his guitar a whole step lower so he can play in a certain key with a certain chord structure
Make a tutorial of The secret place
Anyone know what guitar model that is?
Ziegenfuss

In wich key is he playing?
He’s playing in B but tuned down a half step, so technically it’s B flat.
The song is good, but its hard for me to follow the strumming patern
6:23
Sorry I’m late
stop stop stop talking! and just play
