Not having the gas tank and the fake tank structure is a really good scenario for removing those carbs, specially with taking apart throttle cables, in my experience removing these carbs, removing the cutoff valve is the key of the process, the right side elbows (carb to intake manifold) and be rotated 90 degrees in stead of removed.
