  • They always say, “Don’t stop in Manila, just pass through on the way to anywhere else in the Philippines”. In this Manila vlog I'm not taking that advice!
    I spent a week in Manila determined to find out what this huge mega-city can offer.
    In this video I’ll head to Binondo, the oldest Chinatown in the world and my favourite part of Manila. I’ll also step over to the district of Quiapo next door, to see some incredibly mixed local life.
    I’ll show you all sides of Binondo and Quiapo - Churches, a mosque, a beautiful Taoist temple. Traffic, people, lively markets, poverty and affluence. Oh yeah, and they’ll be some amazing Chinese food of course, it’s pretty special here!
    It’s quintessential Manila, and while a little edgy it parts, it’s well worth exploring.
    Come with me and discover why Manila is worth visiting!

      Thank you! Sadly this time I only had time to stop in Manila for a week but preferred to do that than try and rush around another places. I’ll be returning when I can to see more and will put a Filipino food video on my new sister channel Nosebaggin sometime soon.

    Black/ugly chicken is a very popular Chinese food. The male looks golden. The female looks black. It’s supposed to be herbal

    • @ChrisKermis
      @ChrisKermis  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I read after that it’s actually eaten for health reasons. At the time of eating it I made a conscious decision not to google it just in case the reason behind it put me off. I certainly get the name “ugly chicken”, it didn’t look too good!

    Yes there are some yuppies saying that don't go to Manila its traffic they're trying to persuade travelers, wanted you to go straight to the provinces, I think its a business thing for the province but its wrong everyone who wants to visit Philippines must go explore Manila city first to experience the Capital of the Philippines no matter what is at stake or outcome then afterwards you can go to the province

      I totally agree that it is worth visiting Manila. I enjoyed Quezon City as well but didn't shoot any video there.

      I can't help comparing it to Lagos Nigeria. Manila is not that chaotic and dirty.

      @ChrisKermis  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@miguelbalisi9952 I've never been to Lagos though it is somewhere I think I want to see at some point. Trouble is there's a lot higher on my list right now.

      @Chris Kermis Nigerians are fun to be with. But I find them, (just like some Filipinos also but especially Nigerians) blunt, very blunt. They don't have the North American and European skill of appropriate and candid speaking when it comes to saying their observation of their fellow poor people. They'd say your food is hard to stomach, your poor are too many--when one documentary said that Nigeria has taken over India as having the most number of poor in the world, and others. Rich Americans and Europeans are the nicest when they speak about comparisons. They're honest, yet kind.

      Interesting. The Netherlands where I live is a country with very straight talking people and it’s something I appreciate. It’s often seen as rudeness by visitors who don’t understand that part of the culture. A very different place to the Philippines or Nigeria but still a comparison I see.

    Black Chicken? Haven't you heard African! They don't discriminate.
