- For over 2 years the team at Industrial Light & Magic in San Francisco, Singapore and Vancouver worked tirelessly to bring Guillermo del Toro's science fiction epic "Pacific Rim" to life. This reel represents a taste of the visual effects work the team was tasked with in creating everything from monstrous Kaiju to the man-made Jaegers and the environments they are seen in.
We hope you enjoy this peek behind the scenes of our visual effects work on "Pacific Rim". - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
Best CGI I've ever seen.
Pacific Rim got snubbed at the Oscars. I know Gravity's effects were amazing and all, but why didn't Pacifc Rim at least get recognized while The Lone Ranger did?
This here should've won the Oscar...
I absolutely love videos like this. Flick was a blast.
ㅊㅅㅈ
They didn't really build giant robots then?? :O
wOw it's a whole art.. great job!
That's why i love this film so much. It's one of the most badass movie ever made. No matter how much you hate (or dislike) the story and etc., you can't hate how amazing the effects are.
Gotta love the effects!! One of my favorite movies of 2013!!!
YAY! I loved Pacific Rim! You'd better win the Oscar this year. But then, the Oscars are crap. You've got a figurative award from me for being the best! ILM for the win!
I wonder when CGI companies start hiring the screenplay writers, actors and directors and start owning the movie instead of the other way around. They already do practically 80% of the movie.
So basically you're waiting for a day when a salesperson
is going to take over a shop?
Because technically they are doing 90% of the work.
No matter how good they are, they will always be just the guys who do the effects, and if they get cocky, quite soon new ones will pop up.
Am with u
A century of cinema has brought us here. This features incredible work from every department. Sound, pre-production, production, post-production, etc. Getting this done in just over 2 years seems totally insane to me, so if any of you are still alive, buy yourself a few drinks. If you've been paid, buy yourself a vacation. You fugging deserve it!
I cannot praise ILM Visual FX enough for what they do on this channel! As a young man who wants to be a part of the film industry, I really like how you give us all a taste into what its like behind the scenes with both VFX breakdowns and commentaries from the men and women who actually create the effects! Thank you and keep up the good work!
Eyegasm
ILM and WETA are the two top CGI-for-movie companies as of today
So basically, we're watching a really good 3D cartoon.
AMAZING!!! BEST MOVIE EVER!!!
I absolutely love this type of behind the scenes (deconstructing a scene, CGI models, etc), but to break 2 years of work into a 3-minute video.... (even aside from the extras on the blueray)
You guys are freakin amazing, makes me sad abit.. cuz i'll never be like you.
Great film, Great VFX
You guys are the best
Realy amazing work, but you guys already know that :)
Outstanding as always. :)
i'm still even amazed after watching this! I just loved robots fighting a giants O_O
Wow! I honestly thought that the Shatterdome set was real! It's amazing what goes into a movie like this. This is my dream job.
Took the family, we had a blast. Loved the look of the film. Perfect popcorn movie.
Mind just got blown hard!
One has to recognize and thank you guys for not only show the behind the scenes but go out of your way and prepare such amazing breakdowns of the scenes. Trully inspiring.
I thought I'd have tons of questions, but everything is so clearly shown that it's almost a tutorial.
This left me with a smile on my face. Hopefully there will be a sequel to the movie so I can see more of you guys work. Congratulations!
I think this movie has the MOST photo-real CGI scenes I've ever seen
This movie was beyond beautiful, dem Visual Effects man
Guillermo Del Toro didnt need alot of graphic magic to tell his stories, although i thank him a thousand times for making this dream come true movie :)
this got me in tears...:D....brilliant
This is crazy!
Great vid, Amazing movie! Awesome director, the best mexican director in my opinión
Saw this on my new 3d Tv. Great job at CG effects!!!
Grande ILM ! Straordinari Effetti Speciali !
THE BEST VFX HOUSE IN THE WORLD
Spectacular Work. You never seem content to stay where you are, but to keep pushing; it consistently shows. Thanks for the VFX breakdowns!
wow This is awesome! Have you got more from Pacific Rim?
Eccezionale ! Grande ILM !
Oh god, this is amazing!!!!!
You guys really out did your self (IMO), with Pacific Rim, thanks.
This looks really amazing. Haven't seen the film yet, but I can't help barracking for the monsters.
I loved the lighting effects and that everything felt weighty. The only effect that I thought was kinda weird was the jiggling on the Kaiju the Aussies killed early in the movie.
Very cool tnx for sharing
What the humans are doing is just adorable and fascinating
I've waited for it so long
0:56 Are they useing Minecraft effects too? O_O
Awesome breakdown. I am in awe once again. TIme to rewatch this movie....
Looks awesome! Can't wait for TF4 =)
That... is... A W E S O M E.
No one is considering making Mazinger Z?
wow that was quite amazing. Unlike other movies I felt immersed in the visual effects of this movie. You guys played a key role in that and that makes me happy. Top notch is under-selling the talent that went into this movie.
No Oscar nominations for Pacific Rim.
Today... they have reinstated THE APOCALYPSE!
Incredible!
Simply gorgeous.
Awesome! RIP computers which had to render this
Esta es mi película favorita y ver como se hizo es realmente increíble!! :'D
Got so pumped when I saw this! Just awesome work!
Very cool looking. I think a pacific rim inspired anime series would do very well.
Thanks for sharing! Amazing work, congratulations!
Could you guys make a video like this showcasing the water effects of Pacific Rim? they were truly phenomenal. The water brought the whole film to life in my opinion. I'd love to see how the Battle for Hong Kong scene in the harbor was done from different perspectives
I hope you guys had as much fun making this film as I had watching it!
Increible video!! Simplemente impresionante! :)
I'm learning how to do some of this in school using 3ds max… i think i might switch majors now
Wow! As usual, great work.
Its amazing they make the metal look real even though its not metal at all
I'm hopin' this or Gravity wins Best Visual Effects, guys!
This is sooooooo fantastic!!!!!
Great work, as always. I especially loved the awesome, massive destruction sequences in the city. I'm looking forward to more great work!
Impressive! The fluid simulations were almost seamless. How much time did this take you guys?
Awesome movie and awesome effects, great job guys! :D
i really want to study this kind of job activity.
how is it properly called?
wow nice there so many but tnk uvery much ;D
Visual-effects-Artist.
I hope someday I work on a movie as epic as this with people as talented as the team from ILM Great stuff guys and girls =] I could watch your breakdowns and VFX vids all day.
Amazing work and really great effort by the whole team
Fantastic work! Good job you guys :D
Inspiring...
Are you gonna do a longer one with interviews like the one you did with The Lone Ranger ? It was great anyway, keep up the great work !
This is AMAZING!
Frickin marvelous
Effects contributed
This is such a tease, you cut at the worst possible times lol. Nuclear detonation? Fist going through building? (granted, there was some practical in that shot iirc) Cherno's destruction?
I want so much more...
I did not know that this was made by light & magic, great ^^
You guys are incredible! If there is an eight wonder of the world, then ILM has got to be it ;)
genious!!
one word amazing
I imagined the movie cgi was a fully rendered 3d environment like in a video game.
But no, everything is rendered separately and cleverly pasted together to look real :)
Amazing, as always!
Thanks very much for the video. The demolition simulations were jaw dropping. In house software or rayfire?.
You guys are incredible! If there is an eight wonder of the world, then ILM has got to be it ;)
PART 2 PLEASE !!!!!
Marvelous!
You guys are the best !
Insane!!! and very inspiring!!
This is some seriusly epic VFX work. BTW, how long did it take to render the scene at 0:48?
Beautiful! And thank you very much for posting this. I haven't loved a movie like this in a long time. May I ask a question though? Is the panelling on Gipsy Danger's chest hull physically modelled, or is it a mixture of textures, normal maps/ displacement? Thanks again!
This is awesome, we want more!! By the way, is the 3D model Jaeger as complex as the Transfomers?
dun care what anybody says this movie was baws.
ILMVisualFX is the best!
that was sick.
I wonder how much time did the fluids simulation took... Great stuff!!!
just beautifull
i know it wont happen but you could you guys upload something from your earlier work? like when you were first introduced to cgi? That would be so awesome
