I have had my period for 21years, lived with an all male household for over 10 of it.
I have never been shamed for my period, because at least the people I have been around just don't give a rat's arse about my bodily functions.
I've had periods for over 9 years and have never been shamed. Ever. If anything, I would only feel embarrassed by my periods because I was told people (especially guys) would be grossed out if I mentioned them. Plus, I'm sorry, but I don't exactly feel proud of having such a bodily function: it's blood, it makes for an annoying and emotional week at least once a month and can ruin clothes. If I find my own periods unpleasant, how can I expect others to be 100% fine with them? As long as you don't treat me like crap because of them, we'll be just fine.

As a woman who used a menstrual cup before switching to a menstrual disc, you are *not* supposed to do a kegel in order to get it out. The cup creates a suction which is how it manages to stay inside(same concept with a menstrual disc), so to take it out, you need to first break the suction at the top and the rest is common sense, really...
