      I should use a reflux condenser on every reaction.

    • @s9k328
      @s9k328 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      Nitrogen Dioxide fumes (NO2) from the reaction dissolve in water to form HNO3 (Nitric Acid) and HNO2 (nitrous acid). HNO2 is very unstable at RTP so it disproportionates into NO (nitrogen monoxide) and NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) and H2O (water). The water stays in solution and the NO is oxidised by oxygen in the air to form more nitrogen dioxide. This NO2, along with the one originally produced in the disproportionation, can then react with more water to form HNO3 and HNO2, and the cycle with HNO2 repeats. However, the HNO3 produced herein is significantly dilute, as such it may not be cost-effective and/or profitable to purify/concentrate it, as the dilute nitric acid hereinbefore mentioned will not be useful to for the uses of the publisher of the above video.

    Sand bath is not the "most bestest" choice, since sand is poor conductor of heat, and may scratch glassware. Brass or bronze shavings are much better, albeit in this particular case should the flask crack there would be "quite a lot of fumes and activity" going on. Quartz sand is best for heat conduction - can't say what kind of sand this one here is, but it may be some second grade (i.e. less pure) quartz sand, which won't make any difference in this application (It's kinda yellowish, while regular quartz sand is pure white/ slightly off-white, with a very slight greyish shade.)

    get it hot enough and Pt will oxidize....
    Also, Pt melts at 3125, map gas burns at 3700f, theres absolutely a way you can melt Pt using map, propane etc especially if u have a torch tip that force feeds air into the combustion chamber (like the 1 you are using...)
    personally i use the h2o2 test as Pt will catalyze the peroxide OR use Archimedes density test....

What will you do with that excess iridium - sell to your refiner? About $170 a gram at the moment which is still extremely cheap considering how incredibly rare it is and the BRICS nations control virtually all production - only about 6 tons a year globally.

      You know what’s been worse? Cash.
      In 1930, a gram of gold was $1.50
      Today a gram of gold is $85
      So $1.50 divided by $85 equals 0.1764
      And 0.1764 minus one equals 0.9823
      So a dollar has lost 98.2% of its value since 1930. And it’s got a long way to go. So how much further down can it go?
      Oddly, even if it loses another 50% (gold at $170 per gram) that will only take it down from a 98.2% loss to a 98.7% loss. But on the other side of that, the cost of living will double (because the currency has lost half its value - due to currency creation out of thin air). And that’s what inflating the money supply does for you. It’s evil. I’m stacking gold, that’s rising. Not paper currency, that declining. De-dollarizing.

    you must have some platinum salts and oxides in solution or in filter paper from the previous videos where you refined PGM? you got a palladium button out at the end but there must have been some platinum in the mix too?

      I don’t think the jewelers buy it. None that I know will buy it. I agree with silver and gold going higher, much higher. Especially now that they must create more currency out of thin air to foster rate cuts. They’re doing evil.

    The nitric acid fumes are escaping from your addition funnel, which bypasses the condenser. It's not actually refluxing, if that's what you want?

    • @canonicaltom
      @canonicaltom วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's definitely refluxing, you can see liquid dripping down from the condenser. Even if some nitrogen oxides are escaping, the reaction flask isn't drying out.

    Hold up. Since when did they figure out how to alloy Titanium with platinum?? Last time I checked, the turbine blades in an LM 2500 were titanium alloy, not platinum. I still have a few pieces from the engine we burned up in the Gulf war...

      It's Rhenium - th-cam.com/video/VRccwkEmOYg/w-d-xo.html (Periodic Table of Videos channel).
      Probably some confusiom with rhodium here (which is a PGM metal), since rhenium is also considered a "noble" (precious) metal.
