3 tries isn't going to be even close to enough to get it down. I'm dominican so this is kind of our olympics if you may. Basically you have to use a fine tooth comb or a brush and get that hair FLAT on that roller. The ends need to stick to the roller by themselves. Only then can you roll. Roll quick, roll hard, and smooth as you go. No curlies on the roller, tug and smooth! After practice the whole process takes me about 2-3 hours and thats mostly downtime anyway sooo yah.
Nap, try doing the roller set from an old twistout. Spray each individual section with water, moisturize, and roll. Since your hair is already stretched, you should get sleeker results and it isn't as much of a hassle as washing and styling in the same day. Happy Holidays! :)
I like the rollerset better than curl former. I loved how your natural curls showed through the rollerset curls. The results were beautiful although I don't think I have the patience to spend 7 hours doing my hair.
NaturallyJamaican Had she rolled them properly it would of probably only takin 3 hours. 1. Line a roller up with the middle of your head.(check by lining up w/ nose) 2. Part off a roller sized section & continue to roll down the whole middle. 3. Roll the sides DOWN if you want sleekness, continue until done 4. Set under the dry for 45 minutes or until hair is dry 5. Style as desired
Honestly, I love both looks. With the curlformers have the "relaxed" look almost if u just want those bouncy curls without the textured look. With the roller set, it creates an new styles of style having the natural texture look with the straight bouncy curls. The roller set creates an omni texture waterfall, so different. I really love them both. Don't give up on this style!
Gorgeous! I think the fact that your natural curl pattern was still present is what really mad this gorgeous. It gave it a extra dimension that made it uniquely beautiful!
literally can not. I tried this just now and it took me an hour just to get the first two in -- this definitely takes practice. I'm dizzy and in need of a nap.
Pretty Political Tell me about it. I spent 4 hours last night putting my rollerset in. They are still in my head. I slept in them because I wanted them to air dry. Let’s just say I didn’t get the best night’s sleep.
This is sooo pretty! I think the roller set gives your hair a more elegant look & would be perfect for formal occasions. Curl formers are awesome too, but the curls look more casual or laid back.
Just beautiful. I can't wait for my hair to get this length. When I get discouraged with my natural hair, I look at your videos for inspiration. Thanks a million.
Maybe next time you should try the "pony tail roller set" method. It tends to get the roots a bit more straight than the regular roller set. Either way great tutorial!
I prefer the curlformer look and technique. My hair isn't as long as yours, but it's very thick. It usually takes me about an hour and a half for the curlformer technique. The best thing about that it going to sleep once you install them. Love your videos! You have helped me tremendously!!!
I definitely like the roller set result better but, like you said "AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR A 7 HOUR STYLE" If I were to choose which to do on myself, i'd choos e the curlformers.
I'm so glad you mentioned curl formers because I was wondering how you would compare it to your curl former results. I think the roller set is pretty but if you can achieve basically the same results in less time, EFF THAT ROLLERSET!! You get gorgeous results either way :]
Since your original posting date, I've watched this video probably 5 times. I love the results. I have similar hair to yours in texture (mine is a little more coarse in the crown area) and it has just reached my rear end. Yippee!!!!! I will definitely be trying this style. It looks so great!!!
It's not that this was better than curl formers, it's that it gave you a different look. I loved it on you! Especially a couple of days after (as seen in your vlog channel)!
I understand that having long, thick, & curly hair is tedious. But I truly appreciate that you take the time out to show us different styles :) thank you
I loved how they both turned out. For me the one that takes the shortest amount of time would be the one that i go with because i have a lot of hair myself. Not as much as your but they both still had really beautiful results. I may actually try this style one day
Your hair is so gorgeous. I wish I had thick hair like that. I love the roller set,but the curlformers are less time&more shinier&manageable. I love all ur tutorials&vlogs. I am totally a #1 fan.
This is my first comment since i joined TH-cam and let me just say i LOVE your hair texture.I made my decision to go natural while watching your videos.I want to thank you for all the videos that you have made and for all the time and effort that you put into making those videos and also for making the videos interesting.I don't even care if you don't see this comment.I want to thank you,God bless you.
This seems like a much easier way to roll the hair. I absolutely love the outcome and I prefer it to the end result of the curl formers. Thanks for always sharing.
Both the heat roller set and the curlformer set are beautiful. But if I had to choose one, I would say the curlformers because the texture is consistent. Your hair matches your personality...very beautiful. I love your channel. Blessings
I feel you,I had that kind of time before I had children. Now if I had to do my hair alone, it might take me one whole day or two, if it's mini twist or braid, it could take the whole week. I try to stay away from that. Your hair looks super shiny and beautiful. I love it.
I love both results. I like the rollerset a little better because it gives you more length without having to stretch the curls like you would with curl formers. But still, both looks great.
I like both for different reasons: roller set b/c the curls are bigger & curl-formers b/c the curls are smaller...just depends on the look and style one is going for. I do appreciate the time to complete for the curl-formers more...time is so precious when you have a million and one things to do.
Beau-ti-ful!!!! I like both the roller set and the curlformers. The rollers set made most of the hair look sleeker and smoother (except the roots, of course) and the curlformers get down to the roots and makes them much smoother than the rollerset. Either way it's a win win cause ur hair is gorgeous!!!
I love both looks. I dont know if its practical with a baby, but try sleeping on your stomach and let the roller set dry overnight. inhavent done a roller set since i transitioned a decade ago, I'm inspired to try this method. Also, your skin looks amazing! And the textured roots work really well with this style.
I think both ways turn out great! The heated roller set takes more time...hair is lighter and not as voulmized. Curl formers the hair is bouncy full of former and bonus less time! Love your vids
I liked the curlformers only because of the consistency of the look from root to ends. I loved the rollerset because of the length. Keep up the great videos!
I honestly like both! The roller set is much more looser curls but still bouncy. The curlformers are just tighter curls but good thing is that the roots are not curly. But I like both!
Great vid Whitney! Ur hair came out BEAUTIFUL(as always!) I like ur results, the shine is really AMAZIN...but I LOVE ur curlformer results better! I'm bought a couple of packs of flexi-rods 2 try on my mom's hair 4 the holidays bcz she don't want 2 wear a wig no more, no more! I'm excited 2 try curlformers, flexi-rods & roller sets, BUT I gotta wait until next year 4 more length, I'm greedy! Now that I know how 2 retain length, I got goals for my hair! THKS 4 sharin u r always a joy to watch! :)
Yeah, I'm definitely a fan of curlformers. Not that the roller set looked bad, but it takes way too long and is too much work. If you can get heatless curls that look better, that's the way to go! Proud of you either way Whit!
I ABSOLUTELY love all your hair vids...simple, practical, healthy techniques, & of course beautiful results over the years! Please keep the videos coming! Thank you!
I like the length and bounce of the roller set. I understand though with the amount of time involved that curlformers would be a perfect option. So for a regular look Curlformers save the roller set for fancy occasions but thank you so much for your work to provide this video.
Very pretty results Whitney! Thanks for a great tutorial. I like both, but I think if I have to pick a favorite it would be the curl formers. Take care and keep making great videos, Linda :-)
I like the look of this. it was gorgeous. Either roller set or curl formers makes you hair look great. I plan on experimenting with both in a month or so.
Whit I loved this video and the results came out GREAT! But as you stated......who has time for all that work? To me this look and the curlformer look are different because the curlformer gives you tighter curls........while the roller set (IMO) gives you more relaxed curls. They BOTH look great but I PREFER the curlformer look on you and it saves you a TREMENDOUS amount of time!!! Thanks for the videos and taking time out of your obviously busy schedule to create these looks for us. You rock!!!
The roller set is nice. I see your Pibbs. I just got mine last week and have used it twice: roller set and flexi rod set. I am transitioning (6 months) and the sets really help. I think we're hair twins.
Whitney, I can totally relate to taking hours putting rollers, because the tight curls are trying to rule, lol Thank you for the suggestion on sectioning the hair. I had to choose in regards to the results between the rollers and curlformers for you, It would be the curlformers. The rollers do make the curls appear even bigger.
Wow that roller set turned out beautifully! I was wondering though, now that you have some sections of your hair that is too long for your curlformers what are you going to do? I have the same issue and I am wondering if starting the curlformer further away from my roots and pinning the roots down would work. Have you tried that?
I can't say if I prefer one or the other, they're both really pretty in their own way. I'd say stick to the curlformers because they take less time. But this looked so pretty! You should at least do it once in a blue. Maybe get a friend to do it for you, or at a salon. I got my mom to roller set it for me a few days ago (which NEVER happens lol) and it was definitely easier than doing it myself. Thanks for another awesome video. Your channel is one of the main reasons I went natural.
Whitney, have you seen Mahoganycurls video. She also did a roller set video and was able to achieve kind of a flat ironed look but also still had textured roots.
Maybe you could do a combo of both? I like the sleekness of the curl formers better for you roots, etc. But I kinda like how the rollers created that kind of curved 'bang' look for you in the front! Cute!

I like the roller set curls better, but the curlformers hair always comes out nice. On a separate note, I love how the music in your videos is always so light and airy (that's the best way I know how to describe it). Lol
Most people with this hair length find it easier to rock the stretched styles because it is easier throughout the week and they enjoy the length.Chime (Haircrush) stretches her hair,LHDC stretches hers, & Sistawithrealhair. Her hair is in its natural state! This is simply a style.
You are wonderful. Your hair is a joy to behold; I wish more of our young sisters realize that they too can (and do) have awesome natural black hair. May God continue to Bless you and your family.
I def agree with you about the curl formers! when natural ladies ask if I can give them a roller set like this I am very honest about the results, it will def not look like it did when you had a relaxer, especially when your hair is coily curly like this! but over all I think it looks nice you can get some cute styles out of it at least!
I think your hair is gorgeous no matter what you do! Not gonna lie I was totally digging the roller set though, with that you have even more styling options it seems!
Gr8 job...what type of foam did you use on your hair. ..because the kind they use at the Dominican shop leaves my hair hard and I wind up letting them blow dry my roots...and my edges never look neat...my hair is about same length as yours ....oh and how do you fo wash in goes on this length of hair mine never comes out right now thst my hsir is longer
Yeah, the 2 hour hood drying time would be a deal-breaker for me. I do magnetic roller sets on my 7 inch natural hair and it air dries in about 2 hours. If I do it at bedtime, it's dry by morning. You're right that your curls don't quit...I'm able to get mine smooth on the barrel. My hair has a very odd characteristic that it curls profusely yet when I wet and comb it a little, the strands go straight.
I like the roller set results better because your hair is elongated more, but the time it takes to complete is a major turn off. Your curls are so pretty, Whitney!
Thank you so much for this! I could never get curlformers to work. My hair was always hanging out of them! I was wondering if you used a leave in when you did this? I know you detangled, but was anything left in? And how long were you able to keep the style?
WOW!! Seven hours is a very long time but the end results are AMAZING. I love both styles. Question: How long did the roller set and the Curlformers style last? Thank Q for sharing all of your videos!
Everything you do is absolutely beautiful. I loved these curls as much as the curlformers but since you said the CF's were easier and quickly, stick with those...lol! Like you said..."ain't nobody got time for that!" As always, great video!!
Your hair is beautiful ! I like both the roller set and the curl formers. Of course the that takes less time would make me a fan! "Ain't nobody got time for that"!

SmoochBoosh Thank you soo much I really needed that.
Beyonce Carter it helped you? yayyy
Thank you, that helped so much! I'll keep that in mind when I try this method :)
+AfroDollBabe Girl, you are a life saver! My roller set came out amazing! Thanks!

Keshuna102 I did a screen shot of this so I can do a roller set. Thanks for the tip! 😊
Honestly, I love both looks. With the curlformers have the "relaxed" look almost if u just want those bouncy curls without the textured look. I love the texture with the curls! Very pretty! I prefer this to the curlformers because the beautiful texture still shows!
Gorgeous! I think the fact that your natural curl pattern was still present is what really mad this gorgeous. It gave it a extra dimension that made it uniquely beautiful!

"My curls definitely don't quit. They don't play." Lol.
7 hours, yes & that sucks but I LOVE those results! Roller sets were my relaxed go-to & I'm still a sucker for them. Beautiful.
I like the roller set results better because I like looser bouncy curls.
Roller set is my fav!! Absolutely beautiful!! It may be worth bartering with a friend to roll it for you.
love the look....but 7 hours?! That's cray

LOVE IT!! IM READY TO DO THIS AS WELL BUT IM SOO SCARED. I DO NOT LIKE HEAT AT ALL.
This turned out soooo cute Nap
I definitely like the roller set result better but, like you said "AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR A 7 HOUR STYLE" If I were to choose which to do on myself, i'd choos
e the curlformers.
lol damn right 7 hours is madness
You are an inspiration for me, I am 20 years old and decided to go natural last year! You have taught me how to take cafe of my hair!
I'm so glad you mentioned curl formers because I was wondering how you would compare it to your curl former results. I think the roller set is pretty but if you can achieve basically the same results in less time, EFF THAT ROLLERSET!! You get gorgeous results either way :]

Your hair looks gorgeous and you don't need any makeup your skin is glowing and flawless.
I feel you,I had that kind of time before I had children. Now if I had to do my hair alone, it might take me one whole day or two, if it's mini twist or braid, it could take the whole week. I try to stay away from that.

I think the updated curlformer routine yields really pretty results! Both are gorgeous but I would go w curlformers a too.

I love the curlformers more. They seem to be way more convenient and they straighten your roots as well. You still look good girl!
Both are cool to me. I like how the roller set left texture in your hair. Its pretty cool
This is really pretty. I might prefer this style over the curlformers, but if it's too much trouble, it ain't worth it
I liked the curlformers only because of the consistency of the look from root to ends. I loved the rollerset because of the length. Keep up the great videos!
I honestly like both! The roller set is much more looser curls but still bouncy. The curlformers are just tighter curls but good thing is that the roots are not curly. But I like both!
Definitely like the roller set result more. Reminds me of the days I used to roller set every Sunday as a kid. With my 4c texture that is
Great vid Whitney! Ur hair came out BEAUTIFUL(as always!) I like ur results, the shine is really AMAZIN...but I LOVE ur curlformer results better! THKS 4 sharin u r always a joy to watch! :)
I like both types of curls. The curl formers results are a wee bit tighter. The roller set can be a curly pony easy! Great job mommy!!
Your hair is gorgeous 24-7. Because of the time and difficulty I prefer the curlformers
Oh WoW... GORGEOUS!
I love the results of Both. I would choose the curlformer set because of the difference in time.
Thank you!
It's breath taking... You cant go wrong with what ever you decide. Its all lovely on you... Thank u for all u share.... Many blessings
I love your hair texture, so I'm voting for the roller set hair.
I like the length and bounce of the roller set. I understand though with the amount of time involved that curlformers would be a perfect option. So for a regular look Curlformers save the roller set for fancy occasions but thank you so much for your work to provide this video.
I didn't even notice the lack of makeup. You're a natural beauty!!
Your hair is gorgeous!!! So long now & beautiful. It's hard for me to pick between the roller set & curl formers because they both came out great.
I like the curl formers and roller set. The roller set looks like it give you more of a lengthy look
I like the curl formers results a lot better. The curls are more defined as well as less time consuming! So that's a plus!
I think the curl formers look fuller but I think the roller set is pretty but that's a long time. Both beautiful!
You rock!!!
The roller set results definitely have my vote.
Beautiful results that shows off your length more but your curlformers are definitely smoother...gorgeous either way!
Have you ever thought about flatironing your roots after you set your hair on Curl Formers for sleeker results?
Maybe you could do a combo of both? I like the sleekness of the curl formers better for you roots, etc. But I kinda like how the rollers created that kind of curved 'bang' look for you in the front! Cute!
Both types of curls were nice, but I would do this one if you were going to a formal event and just tie a scarf at the top to lay it flat if that was an issue for you (it's nice the way it is), the curlformers are less time consuming and you still get good results!
Just GORGEOUS!!! I love both just depends on the size of the curl you want. You were one of the first naturals I found on TH-cam and my FAVORITE! ^_^
depends on wht you like. the roller set with heat offers a more stretched curl
I'd have to go with the curlformers-don't get me wrong I liked the results of the roller set but this took ALOT of time to achieve the same look! Big ups for the challenge Whitney!!!
Try bigger rollers! i LOVE THE RESULTS though :)
I like the rollers better!! It looks too cute!!
It looks really good. When are going to flat iron it?
I def agree with you about the curl formers! when natural ladies ask if I can give them a roller set like this I am very honest about the results, it will def not look like it did when you had a relaxer, especially when your hair is coily curly like this! but over all I think it looks nice you can get some cute styles out of it at least!
I can't believe I never thought to use the rollers to help me part my hair. You genius!
CURLFORMER RULES!!! But I have to say this roller set came in a pretty close second. You have AWESOME hair!!!!
your hair is lusciously beautiful enough that both methods had a wonderful result, keep it up
I think your hair is gorgeous no matter what you do!
Oh, I cannot WAIT until my hair reaches that length...I'm so in love with your hair...this style looks great on you =)
Yeah, the 2 hour hood drying time would be a deal-breaker for me.
HI Whit, what type of foam? How about using flaxseed gel? I like this look but the curl formers are my fave!
No matter which roll you use your hair is beautiful.
The curl formers are nice but I actually prefer for the roller set for you. It looked really good. I wanna try!
WOW!! Seven hours is a very long time but the end results are AMAZING. I love both styles. Question: How long did the roller set and the Curlformers style last? Thank Q for sharing all of your videos!
You hair looks great! What type of setting lotion do you use with your roller set?
Everything you do is absolutely beautiful. I loved these curls as much as the curlformers but since you said the CF's were easier and quickly, stick with those...lol! Like you said..."ain't nobody got time for that!" As always, great video!!
Your hair has a really cool texture to it, loved that style on you. :)
Beautiful!! love both ways! Did you mention which setting lotion you used?
Your hair is beautiful ! I like both the roller set and the curl formers. Of course the that takes less time would make me a fan! "Ain't nobody got time for that"!
