Am I the only one who thinks it wasn't a fail? lol. Well, I am not sure what look you were particularily going for but I think that if you separated it and picked out the roots, you would have been left with a banging curly fro! The only thing is the back not drying completely. Oh, and LOVE how thick your hair is. Love it! xx
Your hair didn't turn out too bad, actually. If you don't mind a little heat, you could've blowdried for a few minutes. I love roller sets. They are my favorite style. My recommendations for you (if you don't mind the advice :) ) - 1. use larger rollers (your hair is too long for the size that you used; takes forever to dry on small rollers); 2. stay under the dryer for longer or just do the set at night and air dry over night (roller sets - much like many natural styles - don't work if the hair doesn't completely dry); 3. don't use mousse or "foam" (those products don't really do anything for my hair, plus they make your hair take longer to dry); just use a leave-in and some oil works great. Thanks for sharing this video!
Omg Sola I feel you girl! The same thing happens to me which is why I haven't posted a roller set lol!!! I just can't! I have the same rollers and products etc... I never got a successful roller set when I was relaxed either lol. I'd rather stick to twist and curls with these rollers :D
I would suggest that you try it on stretched hair (blow dried or African threaded). Do smaller sections and apply flaxseed gel not wrap lotion. End papers also help to give the ends a smoother texture. Please give it another try, it might work out the second time around. All the best and thanks for always sharing :)
Hi! I tried to do a roller set a couple of times and what really helped was doing it on stretched hair and smaller sections like people were saying. I posted a video about it on my channel
I like the magnetic rollers better. They stretch the hair and dry the hair smooth. Also use a small tooth comb to smooth the wrap lotion and dry your hair completely. Your hair was still cute though. Good luck.
I've done several successful perm rod sets. I never do it on wet hair though. Damp hair with a great leave in and a foaming/setting lotion. Videos on my channel.
lol the struggle though i feel you. I be all hyped as well setting myself up for my January anniversary. I have some product line i'll try but won't spill the beans yet (it's on the shelf waiting to be opened, poor soul lol), plus the Jane carter wrap that bought i've had all for a couple months now for a special rollerset, I HOPE! ... but i am anticipating to try on my anniversary LOL Hope this wait doesn't go in vain O_o lolol. Some of your curls came out nice though..some.. ;DX
ROFL! I totally feel you on the perm rods. Same reason why I have yet to do one on camera, but I may try it again because it's been months! I have those same size perm rods. It's not that bad, though. At least your hair is pretty much already stretched. lol
I tried that mousse today i didn't sit under a drier but i can try once more..i dont like how it feels on my hair..my hair feels hard at first although it gets softer the longer the product stays on my hair....your hair wasn't that bad though
I'm so sorry this didn't come out the way you wanted! Try the roller set on stretched hair. And smooth the setting mousse or lotion through with a comb. It should work out a little better. It took me a while to figure that out lol. I have a tutorial on it, too ;).
you have to do much smaller sections and pull the hair tighter so that you get smoother roots. It takes much practice to get a roller set to work on 4C hair.
Hi Sola....try coiling your hair to the rollers from top to bottom( to the tips of your your hair) I just discovered your TH-cam videos... Love it.... I follow you on instagram.
That's how my rollersets/flexirod sets always come out, too. If I want smooth curls I do Curlformers, but those are a lot of work for a short-lived style also.
I have your hair texture. I tried this style as well. Except, I used smaller perm rods, I use bobby pins to hold the rods up: Then closed the top. It holds up much better that way. Also, I made my own leave in conditioner with Shea butter, coconut/olive/castor oil and Mint. I heated it up in microwave, then put water in the bottle. You And me have very thick hair. So you should have kept it in for at least 8 hours. Air drying is better than heat because heat will take out moisture
you have to us some gel to smooth your curls, then allow enough time for drying, don't think it was a fail, just needs some tweeking to your technique. I love roll sets on natural hair in the winter months.
You are good! I vowed to never do a roller set again. From what I have seen, much smaller sections is supposed to help. From what I have tried, nothing works!
resa31802 LOL! LOL! Girl.. that is what everyone is saying. I will give it just one more try with all these suggestions.. If it does not work.. Then, Lil Sis can keep playing with them. @p/vf0SHCn1A4/?modal=true
Some do a roller set on stretched hair and then add a light product. I'm 4c and have no desire to try this lol. Well, maybe when my hair is longer TFS 😊
Try roller set on streched damp hair, not soaking wet for your hair texture, spritz ur hair with water, use the wrapping fome and seal with shea butter then set her with rollers. It should work, its trial and error xxx
I agree with Fly2011Naturally you have to do smaller sections when rolling your hair. Then you have make sure your hair is completely dry. You can do, it just takes practice. 😉
Honestly, I didn't hate it...I coulda worked with it, I think. But, like you, I don't do roller sets much either. My hair is super curly and also fine...a mess waiting to happen. If I fool with rollers at all, I generally twist first and I also use end papers to help with a smoother look. Still, roller curls don't last long for that much work. Thanks for trying!
Super small sections. Extra perfect detangle--comb must glide through. Bigger size roller and you have to stay under the dryer. All reasons why I pass on the roller set as a natural. When I was relaxed I was the roller set queen. My final step was to comb out the curls. Wrap my hair around my head and sit under the dryer again with plastic wrap. I think I remember plastic wrap to cover everything, but that sounds crazy to me now. Just kidding, it was a hair net. The end result was a super bouncy flowy and shiny situation. All that heat is too much to even think about now. It doesn't last if you want moist hair.
A rollerset is done with rollers for rollersetting you used perm rods. Plus the conditioner and setting was not for setting hair. A conditioner that stretches the hair would have work better. adding a little Shea Butter n eco gel would have given you a beautiful rollerset using the correct rollers😊
+Monica Ragland Have you ever tested your hair porosity? Here is how bit.ly/2jzbkEC It could be that you are low porosity. You can try drying your hair with a microfiber towel or use these drying agent that works for us bit.ly/DN_HairGloves Use smaller perm rods
Maybe u have to try it on dry, stretched hair. Naptural85 has a video about it. Doing roller sets on dry or wet hair makes a huge difference! Love from Belgium (:
ah ah ah girl, i've never tried them...and i really don't want to...it might work well on flat-ironed hair? surely...anyway thanks DiscoveringNatural for trying ah ah ah have a nice day!
what a bummer all that work. I have never tried roller set on my natural hair and I don't think I will after watching this. However, I tried the curlformers on my daughters hair (my guinea pig sometimes) and it turned out great. I found it dried faster than the perm rods. Of course I only did the bangs and it didn't last past a day. I plan to do it again with some holding product.
You did well. Next time use smaller sections and a smaller comb to detangle. Also you need some oil or butter on there and let the hair completely dry before you unroll it, keep the curl when you unwrap it from the roller and finally you should use some end papers on the hair or on the roller itself
Hey, your hair is beautiful. I noticed you did the roller set wrong. You are suppose to saturate your hair with water NOT product. The second step is to add the setting product and continually spraying water on your hair if you get to a section that is feeling damp. I hope next time if you try a roller set you will try this technique :)
You have 4a hair. Trust me- be glad you don't have 4c hair. Also the set was a little puffy only because it was not fully dry. If you can- just sleep in your rollerset so it can fully dry. Can you do another video on this process with the hair fully dry. I bet it will be Gorgeous. Love your videos.
BadGirl0804 Thanks for the tips.. I have to build up my courage to do another one.. Ok.. I'll do it next year!! LOL! .. YIKES.. that's just 2 months away.. LOL!
it wasn't a fail... you just weren't patient when taking it down. it would have been a beautiful fluffy curly afro. was disappointed you didn't see it all the way through. takes practice and patience.
Your sections are too big. You need double the amount of rollers for definition. And you need to let your hair dry under the dryer for at least 45 minutes to an hour.
Wasn't bad at all... all you had to do was separate by finger coiling, using light oil.... it would have defined your curls! Try it again! Thumbs up from me!
Love it! xx
I thought it was really nice! and complimented her face really well.
jemy1415 Thanks.. I think it is the overachiever in me...LOL!

NaturalMe4C Yeah! Thank goodness, I am not alone in the struggle. LOL!

Jen B Thanks so much for the encouragement
Now I understand how to use the perm rods because its my first time using it. I see it on females who already try it.
Would it work on my hair?
You have to try it to see how it will work on your hair. Here is a playlist of different ways to do perm rods bit.ly/DN_Roller_Set_PL
Hi! I tried to do a roller set a couple of times and what really helped was doing it on stretched hair and smaller sections like people were saying. I posted a video about it on my channel

S Dunn Thank you for the wonderful tips.
Wow. This wasn't a fail at all. Your hair turned out lovely.
***** Thank you!!
Use a fine tooth comb to detangle your hair. It will elongate your curls more. Plus gives your hair a smoother finish
Amoy Kerr Thank you so much. I am taking note of all these suggestions.
I've done several successful perm rod sets. I never do it on wet hair though. Damp hair with a great leave in and a foaming/setting lotion. Videos on my channel.

RCIYAH Looking forward to it. Thanks for watching.
I think k you would have got the look you we're hoping for if you would have position the rollers vertically as if you were doing a spiral set.
GettaBest Thank you so much. I will try that next time
ROFL! I totally feel you on the perm rods. Same reason why I have yet to do one on camera, but I may try it again because it's been months! I have those same size perm rods. It's not that bad, though. At least your hair is pretty much already stretched. lol
Curls of Innocence Thank you.
your hair actually turned out cute!! keep it up!!
+Breyona Parker Thank you so much! 💖
Aw so sorry it didn't turn out for you. Thanks for taking the time and share with us your perm rod set.
***** Thank you so much for watching and commenting. They say practice makes perfect... guess I need some more practice.
I tried that mousse today i didn't sit under a drier but i can try once more..i dont like how it feels on my hair..my hair feels hard at first although it gets softer the longer the product stays on my hair....your hair wasn't that bad though
Thanks for the review of how the mousse worked in your hair
I'm so sorry this didn't come out the way you wanted! Try the roller set on stretched hair. And smooth the setting mousse or lotion through with a comb. It should work out a little better. It took me a while to figure that out lol. I have a tutorial on it, too ;).
B Squizzy Thank you. I will check out your tutorial.
My hair is just too coily/frizzy for all that lol....
NaturalMe4C LOL!
Have you tried stretching your hair and roller setting on stretched out damp hair? It might work better.
damani63 No, I have not. Thanks for the tip.

Bay Tay LOL!! Thanks
I think it looks pretty!
Lady4Life Thanks for the boost of confidence
I agree with Fly2011Naturally you have to do smaller sections when rolling your hair. Then you have make sure your hair is completely dry. You can do, it just takes practice. 😉
NaturalCurls4Life Thanks for the motivation
I think it worked. You just need to separate it, it looks fine.
cherripj Thanks!!
maybe flexirod and fully drying the hair may have been better. I think its still pretty and would look nice pinned up somehow.
Rep Jesus I've actually tried Flexirod (off camera) and got 5 days wear from it!! I like the pinned up idea, why did I not think of that. LOL!
I only roller set my hair on wash day to stretch and air dry my hair. its not a style I would just walk out with. I always pin it back.
cetriya LOL! Thanks so much for watching.
Try curlformers with jane carter
priscille hilaire Thanks. I have done that and loved the results. I actually recorded it.

It could be that you are low porosity. You can try drying your hair with a microfiber towel or use these drying agent that works for us bit.ly/DN_HairGloves
Use smaller perm rods
Nairobi or Design Essentials foam wrap works better for youe hair texture.

You have really thick pretty hair. There's no way I would sit under the dryer that long.
Katrina Benjamin Thanks.. I try.. it was hard..
Although your hair is super curly i think it looks beautiful

me & perm rods don't get along either
you need to stretch your hair before
DON'T WORRY! MY PERM ROD SET WAS A FAIL TOO, BUT I'M GONNA TRY IT AGAIN. I SEE MY ERRORS AND WHERE I WENT WRONG. 🙈🙉🙊✋

Lulu D. LOL! Yeah.
This style u didn't give a chance especially when separating and u may need to make sure the hair is pulled taut and maybe a dif product as a styler
tretre2001 Thanks so much for the suggestions
I hate roller too
