Hope you enjoy the video! I know my brows aren’t exactly 1930’s shape, so there is a limit to how “30s” I can look, but I did try to get the makeup as accurate as possible. That includes the other makeup I was wearing but did not go into detail about, such as using a vintage-style face powder rather than a modern foundation. Hollywood stars would have layered on the grease paint and cake products, but this video was more focused on “real” makeup from the time period and I tried to keep that in mind. Makeup designed for being on camera is a lot different than normal makeup, so let me know if you want me to do a video covering film makeup in the future!
I loved this! I'm intrigued at the color mixing idea for hazel eyes, I need to try that. Oh PLEASE do the 1920's, the world needs to know about proper 20's makeup! Haha.
Ha...the Mona Lisa ad made me laugh out loud! Wonder what people would say if a beauty company did that today. I just love your content! Honestly, I like the thin eyebrows of this era so much more. It looks so beautifully feminine and delicate in my opinion. That and a little bit of makeup is enough to bring out the natural beauty. The Mona Lisa was great in the end! :-)
Glad you said something about the 20's. I think people are getting hung up on overly dramatic silent film makeup. I hardly ever see it done as the average woman would do it. btw, I like that evening look. The hair flipping had me cracking up too. You asked about video ideas. I always like those day in the life vids with food, beauty care, house chores, and entertainment from a different era.
Yay I love these videos you do!!!! I naturally have very thin, dark (compared to my gingery, dark brassy blonde/light brown hair) eyebrows, that are the same thickness for the whole thing, and are just arches (my pfp is painted from a pic where I had makeup on, and I make my eyebrows as angular as possible), with fatty hooded eyelids. I've always despaired as to how unfashionable my eyebrows are, and ever since I started wearing makeup over a decade ago, I've thickened my eyebrows a LOT.... but this video has reminded me that I should've been born in a prior age, so that I'd have hac ,y teen and young adult years in the 30's, when my eyebrows were perfect for the style 😭😓😫🥺❤ But yeah, as always, your vids are so great, they-without fail-really just lift my mood, and I appreciate seeing your crafts, skills, just trying things, even if you sometimes fail! I should also add that I love your take of doing ACCURATE decades' trends, and would be keen to see your take of specific early silent-film-era makeup character-esque trends, as there were such specific ideas, like "the vamp", "the kid", "the ingenue" and so on, especially in that interwar period 😉 Edit: I've been really into tatting lately, and if you'd like me to send you any tatting patterns (or knitting, or crochet ones) for any lacy collars or cuffs to ornament your dresses, please let me know how I can send em! I've been really diving into lace cuff/collar sets as a unique and pretty way to dress up plain dresses or blouses, and it was very much _du jour_ around then, with a kind of mini resurgence, coming in and out of popularity until WW2. It has the added plus of people being very impressed when they discover you made the pretty lace collar too, because such crafts are less popular these days. I started teaching myself tatting as the rheumatoid arthritis was making knitting difficult, as its use of difference muscles made it easier to do at times. Sorry for rambling, but I feel like you'd be interest in many of the things I am and I have no other outlet with whom I am able to share these things!

Lace making is such a beautiful art. Is it difficult to learn? I'm usually pretty adept at picking up needle crafts but tatting always looks rather intimidating!

May I ask, how it would be possible to turn modern eyeshadows into something more closer to those in the 1930s? Also may I aski if you have heard of the way(allegedly) Marlene Dietrich did her eyemakeup, the one with burning the underside of a plate and mixing the soot with vaseline. As well as if you have tried something similar?
I'd probably recommend buying a modern cream eyeshadow and applying it very sparingly. Most of the ones I've seen are quite pigmented and are more difficult to be subtle with, but if you applied the shadow carefully I think you could get a relatively convincing look. I've heard of similar methods with soot, although I've never tried it myself as I'd be worried about it not being exactly "eye safe". I have tried a pure carbon black pigment though which is very similar. I found it to be comparable to a black iron oxide, although it blends into the skin a bit different. It wouldn't likely work with just Vaseline though. I have a feeling it would smear all over the place! (I suspect the un-refined soot might have some bi-products in it, possibly from the candle wax, which might have helped with adhesion.)
Trick from someone who has dark brows and also can't commit: if you trim them shorter (rather than off) they look much lighter and thinner, and you can play with the shape more. Good for Halloween too, so you still look sorta normal at work the next day 😁
Yeah I know. That's mostly due to lighting differences. I typically paint myself like a clown for a filming and it ends up looking completely natural on camera under the bright lights 🤡 (Also makeup often looks darker in black & white due to the way the colour is captured. I probably should had added in some B&W footage which would have given a better comparison).

loving the vids! Use the gluestick method to hide your brows, so that way you can do the drawn on thin brows.
